is it that time again already? Dam I feel like i just got the newest model of the macbook pro, and now its outdated again. Anyone know what these new models will be offering?

Please...

I wish this were true! My MBP1,1 is getting pretty tired, and I just can't wait much longer. The 17" is gonna be my choice, and I'll even get an iPad 3G if Apple can hurry this up a bit! :apple:

MBPs haven't been mentioned during yesterday's event, as I expected (does my opinion count even if I'm a complete Apple newbie?!? ;) )...

Anyway, being a programmer and AI researcher, I'm intrigued by the great quality of software for MacOSX, Apple or third party's one...
Could someone please point me out where to find some info/resources to Objective C/COCOA and to setup an IDE for it (even if it's completely OT here)?

Thanks!
P.

I gifted my MBA away at Christmas expecting to get the new one pretty soon. I burned myself big time living without one all this time so bring it on!

Call me crazy, but I won't be impressed at all if Apple only decides to update ram, hardrive, and processor. I'm hoping this refresh is bigger than that, but if it actually does occur next week, it (most likely) will not be accompanied by a presentation by Uncle Steve, which leads me to think it will be nothing more than a simple update. It would be nice to have some sort of HDMI capabilities either through an actual port (unlikely) or a minidisplay adapter (with audio); also USB 3 wouldn't hurt either. I have a feeling that even if there is an update Tuesday, we will still be disappointed.

Apple didn't hold a press event for when they launched new iMacs back in October. I think it was a significant update (screen sizes altered, processors changed). I think this alone deserved a press event but they didn't. Furthermore, they also introduced the new Magic Mouse on the same day as the intro for the iMacs - the magic mouse was a significant update yet did not have a dedicated media event.

I doubt if the new MBP's would get a media event.

I recommended that a friend avoid buying a MBP in November. There were a lot of good Black Friday sales but I told her to wait because she'd regret it when the new ones came out weeks later. It's a good thing she ignored me because four months later here we are.

Releasing new MBP's won't take away the iPad's thunder! I don't understand these kinds of arguments. The mainstream media will stay focused on the iPad. When was the last time an MBP update got coverage on a news channel?

This isn't an attack on you, I just don't understand this way of thinking...

Agreed. Haven't noticed any coverage from international News channels about a refresh. I have a reason to believe this latest rumour, re sellers here do not have MBPs in their stores. They are waiting, just like us.

LOL this is so funny!

I can see Steve sitting there in his Ivory Towers, looking down on everyone waiting saying: "C U Next Tuesday!"

:D

Isn't there always a general timeline with Apple? Isn't it IPhones announced in June, IPods announced in September? I just can't remember the month they generally announce the Macbook lineup. Is it always April?

Did you catch the word "rumors" in your browser's url bar?

Yeah, but there are rumors and then there are rumors. There are rumors like, "someone who's seen a roadmap says they're coming by June", and then there are rumors like "MBPs are shipping in 3 days instead of 2--THEY MUST NOT BE MAKING THEM ANYMORE!"

The former is an unverifiable 'rumor', yet sensible and interesting enough to warrant discussion. The latter comes up every ten days or so; how is this not getting tiresome for everyone?

Any ideas if the new MBP are going to be more expensive?
My son has been saving up for 8 months to get one and is almost there at current price... Hate to tell him he has to wait another 3months till he has the extra $$$

Reading the rest of the threads, it looks like they generally don't go up in price after new models come out. The new models usually stay at the current prices, and the "old" models are usually put in the refurbished store.

Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm still learning!)

That would be great, he's heading into HS next year and has wanted a Mac for 2 years and we told him he has to wait until he graduates 8th grade, he's got his eyes on the 13" MBP and has saved and not spent a dime on anything else. :)

Lucky kid. I'm going into college next year and I'm finally getting my first Mac. IMHO, it wasn't worth the money until now. Since I'll use it for many years, I'm finally going to bite the bullet and buy a MBP.

please answer me quick

Do you think that a new macbook Pro 15" 2.66GHz will be at the u.s apple stors befor April 15. please answer me quick it extreamly impotent;)

Good news...

If it's true. More than likely it isn't. Honestly I think I have a macrumors problem. I get on here several times a day just to see if there is any news on the MacBook Pros even though I won't be getting one until the Fall (I'm hoping they are still doing the free ipod thing then, that would be great!). As long as they update before then, I'll be happy. It will be the first computer I've ever bought new, and my first mac purchase. I have a 7 year old Power Mac G4 (FW-800). It's still a great computer, but it can't do all of the stuff I want it to, and it's not portable.

This past Monday, I bought a MB Pro 15". The store I bought it from said I could return in with no questions asked for 14 days. I now have it running the way I want and I like it a lot better than my old Black S.R. MB 13".

It seems that I've read that Apple will accept any item purchased within 30 days of a new model that replaces one bought in this time frame.

Is that true? In truth, it will take some dynamite features to make me give up my new MB Pro since this one is running so sweet.

In the U.S. at least, Apple's return policy is 14 days on most new hardware (with a 10% restocking fee if opened). Individual stores may give you a different deal.

looking at Sony Vaio E series as an alternative?

definitely waiting to see what the new macbooks actually deliver, but i did build a Sony Vaio E series last night:

i5
4GB
500GB HD (5400rpm)
BluRay
HDMI
Discreet graphics (ATI 512MB - nothing too fancy)
15.5" screen
Probably about 6 lbs.
Windows 7 Pro - 64 bit
3 years accidental damage extended service plan

all-in with tax, it came to about $1450 (including $279 service plan)

Looking at this, i'm wondering:

1) Does Windows 7 continue the tradition of subpar experiences and constant frustration, or is it a reasonably impressive leap forward?
2) If the VAIO is a reasonably well-designed, sleek looking machine, is the new Macbook (possibly without HDMI, definitely without BluRay and definitely more expensive, even without AppleCare) going to be an order of magnitude more delightful?
3) Has anyone heard anything about the VAIO E series?

Overall, I'm still leaning toward dropping the $$ on a new Macbook Pro, but I've been a PC guy so far and I'm guessing that a 15" MBP is going to set me back more than $2k by the time everything gets rolled in.

Has anyone heard anything about the VAIO E series

I tested a 15.6" VAIO at Costco the other day, although I think it was the CW series. Very springy keyboard especially around the enter key and the resolution left a little to be desired too. Lately I've been looking at Lenovos because they have a good student discount which is almost impossible to find so here is the link (I don't think they ask if you are a student...): http://shoplenovo.i2.com/SEUILibrar...-category-id=653343E0DE54435882FABC3CE1BC569A

If there is no MBP by next week I might just order a Lenovo.
