Maybe Apple is just going to skip the mobile iX series of processors. Core 2 Duo has been very good to Apple - maybe their most successful processor in terms of numbers of all time. I highly doubt this but by the time they release the updates Arrandale will be in mid product cycle. And we'll be expecting more updates in a few months after that ;)

agreed.

i can't read anymore. :(

I've only been on the site for a few months (a lot of it lurking), but it already seems like this is the fourth go-'round with "someone who works at a Best Buy in Austraslia noticed the shelves are looking a little bare today, ergo NEW MBPs AND MPs COMING TUESDAY!!!"

Can we please, really, wait for actual news?

Good advice. You can have any model TOMORROW if you choose overnight shipping from Amazon. They have plenty of Mac Book Pro models.

Maybe I got confused by your topic, but what exactly do you think is 'innovative' about USB3 or HDMI? They are standard components that will eventually be adapted by everyone (and have been adapted by many manufacturers already).

My point exactly. Apple has the image of being on the cutting edge, and rightfully so (iPhone, MacBook Air, iPad), however they fail to incorporate basic components in their computers, such as USB3 and HDMI. I'm not arrogant enough to think that they will incorporate a touchscreen monitor in new MBPs for the next refresh, but they claim to be innovators, yet fail to deliver on the basics. Everybody is anticipating this refresh, but how will they differentiate themselves from the market with new processors? I'll be thrilled if they incorporate USB3 and HDMI (somehow) into their next line of MBPs, but should we expect and be content mediocrity from such a brilliant company? These features should have already been introduced. I understand that the features of OS X blow away any other OS, which is why I buy Apple, however the hardware seems to be lacking. It's easy to fall in love with the company: think different; but why should we want perfunctory upgrades?: think critically.

Don't think PCworlds returns is what you would call 'favourable'. From personal experience they are crap, bad, dismal and rude at best. My last year of uni I had to spend half the year using an SEM taking hundreds of images. Back then I needed a computer capable of sorting, processing and compiling the images. Ended up buying a top of the line hewlett Packard was assured it would be more than capable. (should have bought a mac. I know.) It had problems from the start, in the end I had the entire machine rebuilt in replacement parts (only the case remained original). And I can honestly say it cost me a grade on my degree.

I'd complained in person, bought the machine back, had it tested and confirmed it was faulty. Was offered a replacement machine (fantastic you may say.) not so as the offer was reneged on with them preferring to 'fix' or 'swap' the faulty component and in that the long drawn-out saga began.

I wrote to the store manager, area manager and both the CEO and CFO. and got stuffed buy them all. Never again and to this day six years later I nor family have or ever will spend a single penny in a PCworld store again. And this isn't the first and it won't be the last time I warn people to stay away from PCworld.

If you have the option to return it, do so quickly. Then treat yourself to that new Mac (from an Apple store).

Hopefully this time its true! I'm keen to ditch my trust Vaio and upgrade to a 15" MBP!

I don't see any reason, or need for Apple to schedule an event to introduce new notebooks, even if they do introduce the i# chips and new graphics. Apple introduced a completely redesigned MacBook, iMac, and updated Mac Minis late last year through a simple press release. I'm certain they'll just do the same with the MacBook Pro's

So far the mbp was suppose to come out

the day of the mb update
the day after the mb update
then a week after the mb update
in early november
january
febuary
march
and now april

I'm going to throw out my own prediction and say it will come out eventually. I hope i'm right the magic 8 ball says so.

The picture, you get it. Apple… just please. It’s in your interests, people coming to the studio and seeing this as an apple laptop is not good (or absolutely astounding depending on how you look at it)

2010 update. New Intel chip and the return of the express card slot as standard.

2011 update. New Intel chip and the removal of the express card slot as standard.

2012 update. New Intel chip and Steve Jobs denies any rumors to the truth that the express card slot will be standard.

No way are they going to release another huge item or items in one month.

They will stretch it out till June or so, maybe in the middle of the iPad launch and the iPhone launch...

The resent rumors have no backing at all for anyone to think this is "For Real This Time"...

I hate to agree with you, but I wouldn't be surprised to not see the MBP until the end of June, at the Developer's Conference. Here's hoping we're wrong.

I'm sorry but you're wrong, its not a release of another huge item (as you put it) its a spec update, which happen numerous times throughout a models lifetime. This is why there will be no big event etc, just a press release that the MBP's have been updated.

For what it's worth, I just noticed that our campus computer store is completely out of Macs, and doesn't list them on their website. I doubt a major university microstore would stop carrying the brand entirely, so I hope this means a widespread refresh is coming soon.

About 100 campus stores were dropped from Apple's campus reseller program. Yours might be one of them.

On another note, at the campus store I work at, we've been out of the low-end 15 inch model for a good 2 weeks now, and our supplies for 15 inchers in general is dwindling. But we just got a shipment of 13" models last week. Interpret it as you will.

FWIW all my local Best Buys are out of MBPs also

They are totally unavailable. People seem to be laughing at this when others say it, so I ask: is this a good clue or not?

What has Apple done in the past about folks who order immediately prior to an update? Do the customers get a new one, or the choice between waiting a while, a new one, or an old one cheaper?

According to the online checker, the top 15 inch model is still available in Lubbock, Texas; Auburn, Alabama; and Chicago (60622), Illinois :)

Still, it's 90% unavailable at bestbuy -- frys.com checker says it's available everywhere, which is a little more confusing -- someone in another thread says frys might bump it if something better is available.

4.0 is not a huge release either but look at all the talk? What is a new iPhone going to bring. It's not a brand new product but it's going to be huge. If you don't think the a new intel chip in the up coming MBP's is not huge then what is it.

All this is huge because everyone has some issues and Apple is dragging their feet. Do they really care about us users?

Received this morning from "Australian Macworld" magazine:
We got a tip-off this afternoon that the long-anticipated MacBook Pro refresh is just around the corner. While we can't reveal the source, this person is familiar with Apple product cycles and inventory levels.
The source said that an update to every MacBook Pro model was expected on Tuesday, 13 April (which would be a Wednesday, 14 April release in Australia), but was unsure about the MacBook Air. The source was also unsure of any further information regarding a local date for the iPad release, but agrees that 24 April is likely.

Taking one for the team

Alright folks. I can't wait any more. I'm going to take one for the team and, either today or tomorrow, walk into an iStudio (Thai Apple Store) with cash in hand and walk out with at 15"MBP with discrete graphics.

Assuming they have the same return policy as the Apple Store, then you can expect new MBPs in 15 days. Otherwise, you can expect them the day after whatever return policy they have expires. If they have no return policy, then you can fully expect them this coming Tuesday.

I have work to get done and I need a portable machine to do it on. So, despite misgivings about spending much more money than I wanted to, I'm going to finally do what I should have done 3 months ago.

Everyone enjoy your new MBPs when they come out.

I'm sure that we are all grateful, and thank you for your selfless sacrifice! :p

Hell, if I'd come to your studio and seen that computer, I'd go to another studio. Stop raping your computer. :)

This rumor is a bit of a surprise...

This past Monday, I bought a MB Pro 15". The store I bought it from said I could return in with no questions asked for 14 days. I now have it running the way I want and I like it a lot better than my old Black S.R. MB 13".

It seems that I've read that Apple will accept any item purchased within 30 days of a new model that replaces one bought in this time frame.

Is that true? In truth, it will take some dynamite features to make me give up my new MB Pro since this one is running so sweet.
