Apple issues press statement - "We got rid of the extension because there are way too many of these cables out there and only 3% people use them. We did it for the planet so that there is no more wastage. We care about the environment $$$$$"

I've never seen so much negative feedback from an Apple product. Ever. It's so strange and out of the ordinary, especially on an Apple-loving site such as this. But it is deserves it. I'm put off Apple by their poor, greedy decisions with just one product. And it really saddens me to say that as I thought I never would.

I have an early 2015 MacBook pro and wasn't looking to upgrade my laptop because my last hp one lasted me 6 years and even I wouldn't buy one of the newer ones. I got my computer for when I entered graduate school and the ports are useful, and I use the SD card reader all the time. I really like the Apple products I have, but there is a limit to what I will buy when price is taken into consideration. I make enough money to afford the laptop, but if I needed a new computer today, I would probably look elsewhere. It's just too much for what you get and the USB C thing is also a deal breaker at this moment in time. Nothing I have uses it.

Hard to figure what the folks at Apple are on!
Go ahead take the extension cord and kill the glowing apple logo but at the prices you're charging
give us ports and 32 gigs of ram!
Although someone said that its intel lack of support for 32 gigs of ram with the I7s..is this true?
What are the dells using for processors?
Or is it just the DDR3 ram that these processors support?

processor support DDR4 and up to 64GB RAM

I like that the light up Apple is gone. No problem there.

The stuff with the power adapters is ridiculous—absolutely ridiculous. It'd be fine with me, from an environmental standpoint, to split them up. (I buy bare power supplies from a local dealer for cheaper and they don't come with the extension and that's fine because years of dead power supplies leave me with extras that are rarely used.) That makes sense.

Charging $20 a pop and not reducing the price of the base supply? Nice.

On the upside, and as I have said before, USB-C is an industry standard now so, unlike MagSafe, you're going to have A LOT of charging options and won't be beholden to Apple's accessories. I cannot emphasize this enough in the USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 migration: a much wider array of accessories that aren't coming from Apple will be available. This is a really good thing.

I am dying to see someone hook up a Razer Core to the new MacBooks. I wonder if it will work out of the box.

I was waiting for this upgrade but... gonna skip it. I expect the prices will see a considerable drop, especially the BTO options, in the next gen. (I would have picked up a 13" model if the standard configuration on the top tier had 16GB of RAM, but it doesn't) And I avoid the first gen issues, and by the time the next gen comes out there will be a lot more accessories, better compatibility, better maturation of the touch bar, etc.

I seem to be in the minority around here, but conceptually I really like these machines, but this first gen has some really awkward pricing and timing.

You crazy irritating idiots literally complain about anything and everything - even if it's in direct contradiction to the last thing you whinged about on some other pointless thread.

Most of you are truly showing your poor mental abilities and lack of critical thinking.

It's actually addictive to read. Both funny and scary at the same time - to realise exactly how utterly misinformed, sometimes baltently stupid people are. Especially those interested in technology, a group of people whom one would otherwise presume to be intelligent.

I just can't justify the price at all. I would've pre ordered if they were priced the same or a little higher than the previous gen... but not by that margin. Anything over 2k is my spending limit. And I agree regarding USB-C, nobody I know currently uses it. They all have USB 2.0 flash drives still. Why should we spend more just to use widely used standards? I'm actually intrigued by the touch bar, and the lighter weight, superior screen etc. but the huge jump in price and lack of useful ports just kills it. It just isn't worth the asking price and has nothing to justify it.

Oh I know... I thought twice about typing that part.

The only thing that really annoys me is the lack of the glowing logo. I get the desire for being thin, however LED technology has come a LONG way since 1999, so you would think they could incorporate a slim LED panel, or utilize fiber optics to bring light to it in a new way.

it's kinda sad that Apple abandoned something as iconic as their backlit keyboard.

$19 for the extension (which you pretty much need) = WTH! Remember, the laptops are more expensive and they still can't include this. You'll also have to buy a Lightning to USB-C if you want to connect your iPhone or iPad to sync.
16GB Max Ram, meh
The glowing Apple logo is iconic....sad to see it go.

What is going on in Cupertino?

So in addition to paying $500 more for the laptop itself, I need to buy several $25 adapters and a $20 extension cable... No thank you. I'll be voicing my displeasure with my wallet. This is coming from someone who decided to work from home during the Key Note so I can watch the event and order it as soon as I could. Instead, I'm going to go to the Microsoft Store sometime this weekend to get some hands-on time with the Surface Pro 4

We built a professional music studio using a repurposed 2012 27 inch iMac. We just added more ram. How many on here wouldn't be better off buying last years model for a discount instead of the newest model? You can spend more money on ram and a bigger hard drive instead of a spec bump you will rarely notice in your programs?

I get everyone's frustration, if for no other reason than because the more you try to rationalize the thought of going to the competition the more you realize you'll be stuck with windows 10, which isn't even trusted by windows pro users.

Until android and windows improves, apple will continue to have weak hardware upgrades. Maybe I'll be wrong with iPhone 8. We will see.

Anyone else feel that the only product keeping Apple relevant is the iPhone? Everything else feels like cold fries with a big juicy burger.

Actually it's $2,999 plus $349 for AppleCare. Factoring in inflation it's barely $200 more.

Even upgrading to the fastest GPU and CPU don't get it to $4,000.

What are you talking about? My fully loaded MacBook Pro in late 2013 was $3000. At that time it was equipped with the fastest GPU available (Nvidia), 16gb of ram, Fastest CPU, and 1TB. If you costumize the current retina 15 inch to their fastest GPU, 16GB of ram, 1TB of space, and you can even use the 2.6GHZ like my CPU (not even their highest one) and the price is $4000. That's without Apple Care.

I think the newest MacBook Pro in space gray is quite attractive even without the glowing Apple logo. The darker color schemes would match nicely with the Touch Bar and why not just differentiate between MacBooks than the very common silver MB with the glowing logo that most people have? Like trying to buy multiple cars with the same color over and over.

I agree with Jonathan Morrison. I can live without the Apple glowing logo. But USB-C (only), SD slot, and MagSafe are bigger bummers at losing. My value is based on long term practicality and convenience. Not cosmetics.

More new accounts registered by the Microsoft Social team in the past 3 days than there are actually Apple-centric posters left.

So that's what's been happening around here, eh? To be fair though, the Studio was the more exciting product, even though I personally would never buy one.

Even the iPhone feels like cold fries these days. From hot and golden to cold and soggy. Hopefully we get served a whole bunch of hot golden ones next year.

From an electrical standpoint, everyone should be using the 3-pin chargers. Too bad most people will have no idea or won't be willing to spend money on it.

Nah. We all know switch mode supplies are designed as well as thermo nuclear bomb triggers. We don't need no stinkin' grounding!
