So in addition to paying $500 more for the laptop itself, I need to buy several $25 adapters and a $20 extension cable... No thank you. I'll be voicing my displeasure with my wallet. This is coming from someone who decided to work from home during the Key Note so I can watch the event and order it as soon as I could. Instead, I'm going to go to the Microsoft Store sometime this weekend to get some hands-on time with the Surface Pro 4

You might be surprised how short the cables on the Surface Pro are. Or that it doesn't come with a keyboard, and the one you purchase separately for $150 is on par with something built by Apple 10 years ago. Or that it still requires a bag full of adapters. Just different ones than your new MBP will require. God help you if you need support.

And this is coming from someone who owns a Surface Pro 3, his second Surface Pro, has purchased multiples of almost every accessory made, and thought seriously about moving an entire company to these devices. They have their place, but don't kid yourself that they are the complete package that Apple offers.

Steve Jobs also did this-

The big selling feature of that laptop though was 'portable'. There was a handle built into the hinge.

For their marketing purposes this made sense. The logo was flipped when the handle was removed.

I really hope that this will push people to give Windows laptops (Surface Book and Dell XPS) a good look.

They're just as good, if not better than a MacBook Pro.

Microsoft also just announced that the 2017 update to Windows 10 will bring with it native support for SMS messaging with a connected Android or Windows phone (i.e. Messages functionality)

There is NO excuse for not including a $19 (retail price) cable that probably costs them around $2 to make. I guess this is what you get when you reward a company that for years, believes it knows what customers need and want better than the customers themselves.

Hardware wise maybe but macOS is still better for me. I really can't stand windows though 10 is not too bad. I only use windows at work and it's windows 8 which is terrible.

I never really liked the Logo... This looks better IMO.
Sometimes I could actually see the logo on the screen due to light coming through. This is on the air, not sure about the pro models.
BS. The Apple logo was illuminated by the same light that illuminates the LCD display, it's not an additional light that can bleed through...

Wouldn't it have been better received if they just added $19 USD to the sale price of the MBP and had them ship with the extensions in the box?
You mean the already several hundred dollar increase shouldn't have covered it?

I know there is a lot of complaining here about the price, and the lack of a cord. When looking at the latest release of the MS Surfacebook, when you match the specs one might argue that the MB Pro is actually the better deal. There is no 15" option, and when you push the spec to match the MB Pro the prices is similar.

The Apple logo was a translucent window through the LCD though. If the ambient light were considerably brighter than the LCD backlight, you can see the outline.

I must have misunderstood, I thought he was talking about light from the Apple logo appearing on the screen.

I've been buying Mac since my Mac Plus and Apple is really making me look to a PC for my next laptop. You spend 3k on a laptop and they don't give you a power plug that you can actually plug in. WTF. That extra cable has to cost them less than a dollar on an incredibly marked up laptop. No thanks. My current Retina is looking better and better every day.

I can only hope that Apple has people on these forums reading these comments and are realizing they pushed it too far.

Another member on here hit the nail on the head in pointing out the sheer difference in response between Apple and Microsoft's event.

Some seriously messed up times this community is in.

Anyone who can afford a Mac can afford a $19 cable. Apple knows that. The bean counters are running Apple and any dollars they can squeeze out of Apple customers they will. Apple has found out there are few ways they can keep the highest market cap and that's to keep customers paying through the nose for everything. Apple sees customers as little more than "walking wallets."

Walking "Apple Pays" ;)

She would have required a dongle to do what you're suggesting :p

LOL. Well played!

I'm quite familiar with the Surface Pro's, I just haven't had any "face time" with the latest iteration. I appreciate the concern, but I they've always been solid devices, as are MacBook's and I'm sure this latest one is no exception. The cost associated with it however make it a deal breaker. Even with a $150 keyboard, the Surface Pro is $350 less, and the keyboard isn't $150, unless you're going out of your way to get ripped off. Amazon has it all over the place for $120

I did just that and the price difference is $500... How is that similar?

There may not be a 15" option for a Surface Pro 4 but there's no touch screen option for the MBP either... Both have their pros and cons, the price however is not at all similar.

From an electrical standpoint, everyone should be using the 3-pin chargers. Too bad most people will have no idea or won't be willing to spend money on it.

It's less about grounding for most people and more about the actual length. Anyways, I personally have the 2-prong connected to a surge protector which is grounded: problem solved.

I would encourage you to look more deeply.

The Surface line has always been cutting edge. They have never been solid devices.

Aw geez, someone call the Whhaaaambulance and tell them to bring a $7 power cord for the whiners. If it's important to you go buy one. Hell I probably have a couple on the shelf I've never used.

Encouraging me to look deeply isn't going to change my positive experience with them over the years. You're barking up the wrong tree here. Perhaps you can scare someone away who's never used them before. I'm not that guy.

Every iteration has required months of updates before they became stable and/or offered the advertised performance. With the SP3 many users were chained to a power cable for months before a firmware update was released to fix the dead battery issue. I suppose your definition of 'solid' is a little different than mine!

Due to how thin new model is I guess this is why they removed it.

How dare you bring logic and sense into these threads where posters are threatening to buy a MS product because it doesn't come with an extension cable!

A couple of my power cables are still unbundled. I'd imagine most people don't use them. Reduce the footprint - fair enough I guess.

Annoyed but not surprised, I mean the apple watch series 1 doesn't include a power brick.

I question your credibility. Not only because I have not come across these issues, but also because multiple hits for keyboards show they cost from $99-120... Something you claimed would cost $150... So either you're intentionally trying to mislead, or you don't know what you're talking about... Neither are good traits so I think i'll stick with my own experiences. Again, I appreciate your concern, but it isn't needed.

I guess I don't see the outrage. I imagine most people don't use this and it's just another thing to throw away (or recycle) when that time comes. I could be completely wrong here; I used my extension cable maybe twice and neither of those times were necessary, just convenient.

On the other hand these things went up in price quite a bit. So I'm sure those who would use this feel slighted.

Not that I was in the market but I'm mostly disappointed in the price hike. It was dramatic. And I don't feel like the improvements justify said price hike. This obsession with thinner is getting out of hand for me. It is what it is. I don't even know if I'll get a laptop again.
