#FireTimCook

Apple needs to make as much money as possible in order to continue innovating and investing in the future.
Are you for real?

The lack of the glowy logo is a bit sad for me, but not a huge deal. But it may hurt Apple in the long run.
Doesn't really affect Tim Cook. He won't hang around much longer anyway.

I am currently installing the stuff from my MBA 2011 over to my new MBPro 13" that I collected from my local Waitrose supermarket this morning, having ordered the "old" variety online with John Lewis yesterday.
So I keep all of the great stuff about the old MBPro without giving up the MagSafe, USB and other ports, while not paying a crazy amount more for the new MBPro.
The front row at Thursday's presentation are each paid literally ten of millions of dollars per year but unfortunately this does not mean they make the wisest decisions.
I cannot remember ever buying the outgoing Apple product after the new Apple product launch and I doubt I am not the only one on this occasion.

I guess I don't see the outrage. I imagine most people don't use this and it's just another thing to throw away (or recycle) when that time comes. I could be completely wrong here; I used my extension cable maybe twice and neither of those times were necessary, just convenient.

On the other hand these things went up in price quite a bit. So I'm sure those who would use this feel slighted.

Not that I was in the market but I'm mostly disappointed in the price hike. It was dramatic. And I don't feel like the improvements justify said price hike. This obsession with thinner is getting out of hand for me. It is what it is. I don't even know if I'll get a laptop again.
It's ironic that as the products get thinner, Mr Schiller seems to be going the other way.

Whatever their forward guidance, I think Mac sales are going to continue to fall in the next quarter after this announcement because of their failure to update any of the desktop Macs. A 3 grand laptop is for the privileged few not the mass market.

Reading through the MacRumors Buyers Guide is just so depressing with the majority of Macs at Don't Buy. Presumably the next keynote will not be until next March so that's at least another 5 or 6 months before they could unveil new iMacs and Mac Pro's.

Luckily I have a bunch of these extension cables already, but this decision is ridiculous. My only guess is that shorter cable = less likely someone will brush against it and knock the laptop over due to the LACK OF MAGSAFE they also removed.

Honestly, if I had to recommend someone which mac to buy today, I would recommend one of the older models. A $300 price increase for a touchbar and a keyboard with less key travel is not a good bargain.

A lit up logo is silly and toyish?

In my opinion, yes.
It serves absolutely no practical purpose and it draws a lot of attention on itself (hey, it lights up!); it always felt gimmicky to me.

As I said, I welcome its departure.

Pretty silly indeed.
Then again I was never a Mercedes fan, design-wise (as far as German executives / mid-segment sedans go, I'd rather take Audi, or at least BMW).

I don't understand why everyone is comparing the new MacBook Pro to the Surface Studio. When I looked it up the Studio was a DESKTOP computer similar more to the 27"iMac than a MacBook pro and costs more than the iMac and at least a third more than the highest MacBook Pro units. What I also don't get is what's the big deal with the extension cord, I have never used it in the almost 6 years I have had my MacBook Pro. The illuminated logo, cool as it may be, it's not that big a deal for me and from what I see, a lot of people try and cover it up anyway. As for the touchbar, I think it is a cool idea. Personally I welcome a lighter, faster MacBook experience. The thing with the different ports, I understand, but it is time to move on. I will miss the Mag:safe though, I thought that was an awesome feature and it did save my Mac on a few occasions. as for touchscreen, I don't get why one is necessary on a laptop. The iPad Pro is a perfect device for using a touchscreen and quite frankly I can do everything on my iPad Pro that I can do with the MacBook Pro. All the apps I need are on the iPad Pro, iPad Mini, MacBook Pro and iMac, that includes Excel, Word, Pages, Numbers, Quicken, Informant, Safari, etc. I can pick up where I left off on any device - something I couldn't do in the past. I don't want fingerprints all over my laptop screen. Everyone wants smaller, brighter, more powerful, innovative, yada yada yada and then when they get some of that they complain about this being missed or going away, blah, blah, blah. as a consumer, if you don't like the new products, simply don't buy them

I think touchscreen on a regular laptop is a stupid idea.

However, I think people are failing to notice how Apple found a very nice middle ground with the touch strip: it is in a gorilla-arm-free position but it can display arbitrary controls and, particularly, sliders and draggable items.

backlit logo: old product
normal logo: new product
Wonder which one is the best for all the coffee professionals who simply want to show off the latest

In addition to this, I'm still trying to figure out how this touch bar will help with workflow. You'll be forever looking down at your computer trying to hit buttons that dynamically change. Most of the things they show in their demo can be accomplished with the trackpad.

BS. The Apple logo was illuminated by the same light that illuminates the LCD display, it's not an additional light that can bleed through...

You mean the already several hundred dollar increase shouldn't have covered it?
I don't care whether you think it's BS. I have experienced it as have other people.

So the extension cord that was previously included is now $19 extra?

Apple's greed has no bounds.

It's a standard power cable, get one from amazon for $4

Yes, it's the same light and the Apple is translucent. Turn down your brightness and shine a flashlight through the logo. You'll see it on the screen. The point is external light will shine through and bleed to the screen.

Have always liked it whenever I have seen the backlit Apple logo at a coffee place, in a movie, or anywhere. Apple should have left that in place. The look is diminished without it.

I find the comments quite funny. The logo is cosmetic, nothing more. Yes, I like the lit logo, but it won't affect me. I'm sure glow-in-the dark apple stickers are on the way.

Regarding the extension cord, I don't know that I ever used one....not sure I've ever seen someone use one....if you do, and you need it, it's $19. People are spending more than $19 worth of time whining about it.

This reminds me of the doom and gloom on Macrumors when -- oh no -- apple changed the iTunes icon.
iGlowInTheDark = $29. Suckers!!

You crazy irritating idiots literally complain about anything and everything - even if it's in direct contradiction to the last thing you whinged about on some other pointless thread.

Most of you are truly showing your poor mental abilities and lack of critical thinking.

It's actually addictive to read. Both funny and scary at the same time - to realise exactly how utterly misinformed, sometimes baltently stupid people are. Especially those interested in technology, a group of people whom one would otherwise presume to be intelligent.

I don't know about anyone else, but I've always been quite protective of my right to be "baltently stupid" and this exposé actually hurts my feelings...

(Love it when the forum police arrive to berate the "irritating idiots" with their irritatingly idiotic attempts at marking themselves out to be presumably more intelligent or different than the group of people that they are indeed a part of themselves).

I always find myself getting excited after Apple unveils a product. I get into some sort of trance almost and I immediately want to buy whatever it is, I always have to talk myself out of it. I also tend to defend Apple, for instance I was/am a big fan of their battery case. But this? I mean. First time I can remember when I actually felt the older model was better. It's an odd feeling to be honest. Thanks Apple for making me really appreciate my 2015 Retina 13, I guess? It's kind of like when I saw a photo of the AirPods over on a tech website before they were actually announced. I figured it was a mockup or something, a rumor gone wrong. Like, ha ha, take the normal ones and just cut off the wires. But like no, that was... real. For instance, that puck thing Microsoft announced, a company I tend to trash like crazy, made me say wow. I mean, that's some Minority Report stuff right there. I honestly tried to talk myself into the touchbar but after about 5 minutes of trying, it was like dude, give it up, it's not happening. I understood taking the headphone jack out of the iPhone, at least there's some logic involved. But here? Give me a break man, it's a laptop. One of those can be USB A. It's almost like they're more concerned with some almost teenage rebellious crap against ports than they are about making good products. And why did the price go up exactly on the base version? What am I getting extra? I can tell you what I'm losing very easily.

Anyway, that's just my view.

The removal is the only thing I liked in the presentation!

I've always used an Incipio feather-lite shell case to hide that gaudy pretentiousness!

The extension cable removal for the power plug kinda makes sense since previously it was the only way to get more length. Now you can just buy however long a USB-C cable you want. Still though you need the extension if you can't fit a brick plugged into the wall in your outlet space.

Greed. Pure greed.

All PC OEMs include the 3 pin extension to the power brick.
Maybe they realized that they would not sell many MBP's to 'new' customers anyways at the current price...

Even though the may primarily be targeting people that are already well within the ecosystem it is a crap move leaving out a cable that probably costs a buck or two to manufacture.
