Not including the extension cord is just . . . pathetic. So I'd have to spend $2399 plus tax plus $19 for the extension plus $? on adapters? No thank you.

I've had a Mac since the original Mac; and various Apple 2 machines before that. This release reflects poorly on the company.

The power extension isn't really an issue for people replacing their old MacBooks.
Thanks for relating the findings of your extensive survey of Mac users.

most people probably don't use it - simple.
"Most people…" you thought it so it must be true.
How about when people order/buy the laptop they have a choice of getting or not getting the extension cord. Do you think most people would choose not to get it?

FYI, the 2015 rMBPs are still available to purchase and have a backlit logo.
What chipset is that 2015 model running?

This kind of value cutting is disappointing. It means something. You look at all the little details that the macbook used to give consumers....you got cool "features" such as the back lit apple logo, or the magsafe (with the charging indicator LED) or on older pro's the battery charge level gauge...the included extension cord and microfiber cloth...these are little things that add up to make a "special" or "unique" experience to the consumer.

The lack of the back lit logo I can understand (it sucks but the display is super thin so I can entertain an engineering explanation)

However, that extension cord was always my default set up (and for many others I'm sure)

Its just...taking away value from the previous notebooks. These are eventually going to be phased out in favour of the 2016 style macs

It just sucks to see.

Would have been nice if Apple at least included some kind of LED indicator for charging status as was on the Magsafe1/2

Its the little basic things they used to so damn well that are missing. I think these releases, while welcomed to an extent, are also extremely disappointing for many macbook fans (myself included)

On top of it, the price is just too much to justify what you get. Anyone who keeps up to date with laptop technology knows these are weak propositions value wise and the premium seems to be focused primarily on the new touch bar.

While the Skylake chips in a quad core formation are the latest intel chips on the 15", the 13" could have used the latest and greatest Kaby Lake chips for further efficiency. Granted they don't make a huge difference in performance but there are minimal gains and they would have been welcomed.

Apple really dropped the ball overall here with these latest MacBooks, and no doubt some people are happy...but it is no coincidence so many people are upset with these new laptops.

Are you seriously saying that having to spend a few extra dollars (whether right or wrong for it to be required) would stop you from getting a new computer? That's absolute nonsense and completely unbelievable.

Finally some smart guy here..
I gonna buy it too. I don't care about the price. Mac is top notch and all females loves 2 see u with expensive things. More u have the better

I remember when at university walking into the lecture and the lights were dim and seeing all the glowing Apple logos. It was an awesome effect haha. That was back in 2011 oh how I miss Apple from then

Yeah i love to show the logo. People watch u when u have a mac and girls comes 2 u since its clear u have big bucks. U know what i mean? I have a modified iPhone who with light on the logo which is pretty cool. Actually it shows 7 colors on rotation and all ppl see it and talks 2 me saying its so cool

All the great small things pre-Tim Cook era are now starting to fade and what made MacBooks king. The lack of the iconic lit-up Apple logo, providing necessary charging cables, and brilliant but small experiences that made owning a MacBook (or any Apple product) great now disappear. The OS is the last saving grace, but even that isn't a reason alone anymore to stay with Apple hardware.

MagSafe has saved my MacBooks millions of times. It's clear these things aren't important anymore. My next upgrade might be a refurb of the last edition of the 15" MacBook Pro if these trends continue.

Come to think of it, the lack of the lit-up Apple logo says they're not proud to show off products in the public eye. It shouldn't matter as it just an aesthetic thing, but there's not even a technical reason why it isn't there.

If you compare a 2008 or even a 2012 MBP to a 2015... the 2015 looks stripped down. It's missing the power button... the battery indicator... the labeling is gone.
I will be keeping my 2012 for as long as possible. Hate the new version. Less I/O compatibility. Jony's less is more has jumped the shark. A new iPhone can't plug into a new laptop w/o buying a separate dongle.
Shame on Apple.
Give Apple $2500 and they make you buy a dongle to have connectivity. Ridiculous!
Not getting my money.

I rarely see those extension cords used, especially now that all-day battery life is pretty much expected.

Could it be that Apple is trying to be green here? Less plastic and metal for the landfills? Maybe?
Then make it an option at purchase w/o additional cost.

This is what I have been saying for about 2 years, every product they release has some serious draw backs. The can't get anything right, no even a remote for the Apple TV right!

It shows what SJ brought to the table, and what Tim Cook doesn't seriously lacks. So many people here will say, but sales are up, everything must be good. For me those people aren't true tech enthusiasts. Sales are up, but there core customers, former true Apple fans see how bad the company is actually becoming.

Wow... I'd say this is almost a deal breaker. The Surface Studio is looking even better every day.

I've been rocking a SP3 and now an SP4 for a while and I've tooled around with the Surface Book.. they are exceptional products if you are seeking an alternative. Windows 10 is FAR from perfect.. but it's getting there slowly but surely.

Higher price and you don't even get a damn extension cable? Wtf are you doing apple...

Waiting for an apple apologist to say they don't use the cord and it was wise of Apple...
Not reading the thread, it has already been done here.

I'm just left speechless after another round of "New Apple".

I'm absolutely ready for a different CEO for Apple
It's the combo of Timmy's penny pinching and Jony's design philosophy that has Apple going in the wrong direction.

The glowing logo is disappointing... but not exactly a deal breaker right? And how many people really use the extension lead? I've never used mine. In six years. Whilst it's $19 less 'value' in the box, it's actually better for the environment as it reduces waste.
Just make it a free option at purchase.

Apple is taking advantage of the loyal base they have that does graphic editing, uses garage band, or needs the extra security for work that can't buy anything else but apple.

Great ... $3,000 for a laptop and Apple wants an additional $19 for a power extension cable that they have included for years with their other MacBooks.

Of course someone who can afford a $3,000 laptop can afford $19 for the power extension cable, that's not the point.

Apparently Apple loves to nickel and dime people after raising prices ... what did Shiller say "we don't build for price we build for experience", well what kind of experience is Shiller shooting for now.
Come on, it takes courage to poke your users in the eye while creating a less user friendly computing experience.
[doublepost=1477781776][/doublepost]
I didn't even realize any Macs still had a lit Apple logo...
That is because of the time it took them to put out an "updated" "pro" laptop.

One day Apple might charge you extra for the box. But they'll give you several choices:
  • Basic brown box for only $19.99
  • MagicBox that's like the current box for only $59.99
  • MagicBox Pro that comes in Silver, Space Gray, or Rose Gold for only $99.99
  • MagicBox Pro Edition™ that comes gold plated for only $999.99

Apple's "Hello Again" event has come and gone, leaving us with an abundance of Apple-related news and updates heading into the weekend. Below, we have shared some of the more interesting tidbits that have surfaced over the past 24 hours.

Backlit Apple Logo Removed: As it did with the 12-inch MacBook, Apple has removed the backlit Apple logo on new MacBook Pro models. In its place is a glossy Apple logo in black on the Space Gray model and in white on the Silver model. Apple's older MacBook Pros and 13-inch MacBook Air are now its only notebooks with backlit Apple logos that remain available for purchase. Apple's first notebook with a lit-up Apple logo was the third-generation PowerBook G3 released in 1999.

No Power Extension Cable: In line with the 12-inch MacBook, new MacBook Pro models do not come with Apple's Power Adapter Extension Cable in the box. Previous MacBook Pro models included the extension cable in the box for several years. The extension cable, which provides extra length between the power brick and wall outlet, can be purchased as a standalone product for $19.

Touch Bar Has Automatic Brightness: Jason Snell at Apple blog Six Colors spent time with the new MacBook Pro yesterday and discovered the Touch Bar's brightness is not manually adjustable. Instead, the mini Retina display's brightness varies based on lighting conditions, using the MacBook Pro's built-in ambient light sensor. Apple calls this feature Automatic Brightness on iOS devices. "I wasn't able to try and trick it or confuse it, but the entire time I was using it--in a dark room and in a much more brightly lit one--it seemed to match the keyboard well," he explained.

Price Changes: Apple's price changes extend beyond the United Kingdom. The 12-inch MacBook, for example, has increased $100 in price in Canada, where the 256GB model now sells for $1,649 and the 512GB model retails for $1,999. Meanwhile, the reverse has happened in Norway, where 12-inch MacBook prices have dropped by 1000 kroner for each model. Likewise, in New Zealand, 12-inch MacBook prices are now $200 to $250 lower depending on the model. These adjustments are common as Apple keeps its pricing in foreign currencies in line with the U.S. dollar.

1Password Shares Touch Bar Concepts: AgileBits was so excited about Apple's MacBook Pro event yesterday that it has created some mockups of how 1Password could work with the Touch Bar. 1Password users will be able to unlock the app with Touch ID, for example, while Touch Bar will make it easy to switch between password vaults, select new item types, and create website logins. 1Password also anticipates allowing users to slide their fingers across the Touch Bar to generate a strong password.

Apple no vision! facebook social media lights the way for apple. apple is not a think different company! Its a very conventional vision now. They still make pretty reliable hardware but thier OSs are getting sh!¥ier and Sh!¥ties

I guess case manufacturers don't need to make cut outs for the Apple logo anymore. Nobody's gonna know you're using a MBP and you won't feel special anymore. All the hipsters won't have a reason to sit at Starbucks showing off their glowing Apple logo. Starbucks will go bankrupt!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

You joke, but a lot of case/skin manufacturers (outside Dbrand) work on razor-thin margins built around bulk sales... Apple has just tanked the student market, so a lot of those are indeed going to move their business.
