No back lit logo, no extension cable and now no branded cleaning cloth - but they do still include those bloody Apple stickers. o_O

The prices frankly made me gasp. My 2014 rMBP will be lasting me for awhile.

Same here.

But, we know how it goes with pain. After a few days it goes away and when we look past the shock waves Apple sent, there is still a decision to make : Stay with Apple or not.

Everybody who wants to stay with an MBP type set up will have to find a way to get around whatever doesn't work
like it used to.

Touch Bar
Until I see a few examples of "large" advantages and can try one in a store, I'll wait before totally condemning it.

I will say that I don't use the function key row a lot and since I use my MBP in clamshell mode with a monitor and keyboard, I still have the function key row on my keyboard. Nothing lost.

As for dongles and adapters, annoying, but the price to pay for wanting to hold on to old stuff requiring older ports (Which BTW still works exceptionally well and is too young for landfills)
I use an OWC dock which has all the older connectivity options. I may just have to buy one for work and one for home.

Loss of magsafe
Another dongle to buy. More of a student/kids problem and those who leave their machines on the floor or around in a way that the cords can be tripped over. (Animals etc.)

16GB Ram (Should be the minimum)
Pathetic by Apple with weak reasoning. Offer 32GB BTO and put an asterisk about diminished battery life.
Guaranteed nobody cares about that. To be fair without a time , say drops to 8 hours , hard to judge.

128GB/256GB SSD
These are on par with 5,400 rpm HDs and should not even be offered. Make 512 the standard
(Did not check if they offer 128)
What I usually do is try to find one with 16GB , but lowest SSD and upgrade the SSD myself.

Ports
Dock solution

Since it looks as if we can address all the other Apple FUs, only way to get around that is wait until the prices come down and buy one or two generations back.
The 13" MacBook is not as cheap as it looks. Making it a decent machine gets on into the MBP ranges.

That brings us back to:

My 2014 rMBP will be lasting me for a while:)

PS: Apple's moves made me check out Hackintosh info for the first time in 32 Apple years.
Pretty amazing what one can do.

Backlit Apple Logo Removed: As it did with the 12-inch MacBook, Apple has removed the backlit Apple logo on new MacBook Pro models. In its place is a glossy Apple logo in black on the Space Gray model and in white on the Silver model. Apple's older MacBook Pros and 13-inch MacBook Air are now its only notebooks with backlit Apple logos that remain available for purchase. Apple's first notebook with a lit-up Apple logo was the third-generation PowerBook G3 released in 1999.

Are you sure this is correct? I saw the space gray model and the logo is polished space gray, not black. For some reason the local store did not have the silver one on display, but I'm assuming the logo on that would be polished silver rather than white.

Same here, first time im looking into other options. Very dissapointed. This is not the right way to innovate.

Apple's "Hello Again" event has come and gone, leaving us with an abundance of Apple-related news and updates heading into the weekend. Below, we have shared some of the more interesting tidbits that have surfaced over the past 24 hours.

No Power Extension Cable: In line with the 12-inch MacBook, new MacBook Pro models do not come with Apple's Power Adapter Extension Cable in the box. Previous MacBook Pro models included the extension cable in the box for several years. The extension cable, which provides extra length between the power brick and wall outlet, can be purchased as a standalone product for $19.

Touch Bar Has Automatic Brightness: Jason Snell at Apple blog Six Colors spent time with the new MacBook Pro yesterday and discovered the Touch Bar's brightness is not manually adjustable. Instead, the mini Retina display's brightness varies based on lighting conditions, using the MacBook Pro's built-in ambient light sensor. Apple calls this feature Automatic Brightness on iOS devices. "I wasn't able to try and trick it or confuse it, but the entire time I was using it--in a dark room and in a much more brightly lit one--it seemed to match the keyboard well," he explained.

Price Changes: Apple's price changes extend beyond the United Kingdom. The 12-inch MacBook, for example, has increased $100 in price in Canada, where the 256GB model now sells for $1,649 and the 512GB model retails for $1,999. Meanwhile, the reverse has happened in Norway, where 12-inch MacBook prices have dropped by 1000 kroner for each model. Likewise, in New Zealand, 12-inch MacBook prices are now $200 to $250 lower depending on the model. These adjustments are common as Apple keeps its pricing in foreign currencies in line with the U.S. dollar.

1Password Shares Touch Bar Concepts: AgileBits was so excited about Apple's MacBook Pro event yesterday that it has created some mockups of how 1Password could work with the Touch Bar. 1Password users will be able to unlock the app with Touch ID, for example, while Touch Bar will make it easy to switch between password vaults, select new item types, and create website logins. 1Password also anticipates allowing users to slide their fingers across the Touch Bar to generate a strong password.

Apple is being 'courageous' by not including the power cord............

This would be amazing, granted Apple would force us to pay another 3-400USD for a 16GB 512GB base model.

Right now I have a 2012 Mac Pro and a 2013 Macbook Pro. The trash can Mac Pro was a non starter for me, and now this. A Pro laptop that is anything but. These guys have become to hung up on style and don't give a crap about function anymore. After 30 yrs here it might be time to move on....
And one more thing, How fricken greedy can these guys get!!!!!

Non-sequitur. Make a point, if you have one.

My point being that this entire Mac release has been riddled with too little for too much (price).

Of course fanboys and Apple apologists will find an excuse to wax eloquently about the Touchbar.

Apple has become an extremely greedy company and looking back in time, is reminiscent of how Microsoft under Ballmer was like : pompous and reeking of self importance and arrogance. C'mon, seriously, making statements like 'we design for experience and not for price'.Who do you think you are ? Even Ferrari or other luxury labels don't market themselves this way.

Microsoft paid the price and have all but disappeared from the mobile space and Apple need to learn from its lessons and move on.

Cheers !

Somehow I had feared this kind of crap would happen ever since they did it with the macbook line, looks pretty cheap.

Jesus my old powerbook g4 titanium is sexier than this new line.

More signs the iPhone team has some sort of influence over the mac design now, "hey lets make the back logo shiny!!!!"

This whole release of a redesigned rMBP line should have been a time of long overdue celebration...then Apple does all these little things to ruin it...exorbitant pricing, unnecessary restrictions on the 13" version's TB3 capabilities, ditching of the iconic glowing logo and now penny pinching on an extension cable for a very expensive laptop. Tim and his henchman continue to twist the knife and give the competition reason to gloat.

I am with you. I have been a loyal apple customer for about 10 years now and I find it very hard to understand why the are adjusting their prices in such an extreme manner. More so why can additional memory in the year 2016 cost 200-400 usd is beyond my fantasies. On top of that these laptops are becoming so expensive that they begin to loose some of their "brand" features making them even more expensive in terms of use.

I wish I could go back to windows, but it's not quite there yet.
