Apple is losing their mind. No cable extension? Greed.
Sorry I will keep my MBP 2015 for quite awhile.

So do I! My i7 3,1 16gb most likely will beat > 50% off all the new gen for a long time.

Apple... you're SLOWLY loosing me as a loyal costumer. And I've been devoted for +10yrs.

**** TIM COOK! I bet that old Steve won't be happy with all this bulshit, "Man of the year". ***** you Forbes magazine too. Same goes to Hillary, wanting COOK as VP on her campaign.

We want our good Apple times to come back! The times of the revolutionary Iphone 4! Not this crap 7!

Sorry guys.... but I'm more than pissed...

How long before can we ban using SJ from this forum ? Its been 5 years people and in every single thread there are countless "Steve this" and " Steve that" arguments. 5 years ! And in all that time the clairvoyant members here have been channelling him to ripost against any and all things Apple.

They are comparing a visionary to a bean counter. The comparisons are apt. Jobs had his mistakes, but he usually recovered. All we are seeing with Cook is mistake after mistake after mistake with things getting worse for consumers, not better. PLUS the lack of being a visionary.

So get used to Jobs being brought up, at least until a visionary returns to the decision making process.

Jobs was very obviously no bean counter, but mind you - part of Apple marketing, like it or not, revolved around the figure of Jobs, presented as a visionary.
I do feel that the influence of Steve Jobs can be overestimated and probably often is - especially in comparison to Ive.

Yeah, but given that no one really knows what Steve Jobs would have done, how can we be sure that he would have done things any differently? For all we know, Steve Jobs may well have greenlighted the same things that Tim Cook did; Steve just would have been more persuasive and eloquent about it and better able to justify his rationale for doing so in a manner that made us want to believe him more.

I rarely see those extension cords used, especially now that all-day battery life is pretty much expected.

Could it be that Apple is trying to be green here? Less plastic and metal for the landfills? Maybe?

So they removed the extension cable to offset the thousands of dongles and adapters that will be bought and thrown away after removing much used ports?

Real green!

It'll last until Apple gets a new details-man forward thinker as a CEO.

Microsoft was in the exact same looking-back-and-sighing mode for 14 years under Ballmer.

does anyone know if the new screens are glossy? I assume so but it doesn't say.

the best way to show a company your dissatisfaction is in the pocketbook. By not opening it up.
Maybe this will be the learning moment for ****** Cook. He's had a pretty easy ride considering Steve
gave him a blueprint to follow before he passed. Thats my guess anyways.

Great strategy if you can run Windows 10, not so great if you need macOS.

Of Course no one knows what EXACTLY what Jobs would do. But we do have a track record, and that track record has SJ going hulk at times, when a product didn't provide the best user experience possible. And many people believe that SJ would have pitched at least ONE fit, over the products that have been released by TC. THAT is what people are clinging to.

I suspect the Hackintosh niche is about to go mainstream...
Which means Apple will devote more effort into preventing it. Think jailbreaking an iPhone. Only with MacOS, you have a universe of hardware compatibility issues, not just a single hardware config, like the iPhone.

I suspect come next summer, there will be full Windows 10 reskins that look and behave like faux MacOS for 90% of "normal use". It's a mammoth task, but it's technically possible now where it wasn't really before, and there's a hell of a lot of Pro users who aren't going to be happy using machines in 2018 that are multiple generations behind Windows machines.

Dear heavens.. I'm looking at $3700+ CAD for my desired configuration and I have to shell another 20 bucks for a power extension? I've always been a defender of Apple but I think the day has come in which I've been priced out. Looks like Apple is now for the top 10% of society. Peace out.

With Bash being enabled in Windows 10, things are moving in that direction. I know that Cygwin is the first thing I install on any Windows system, which allows me to NOT go insane when using a Windows machine.

just wish things didn't have to devolve to the state we find ourselves in today.

Good luck. Choosing to NOT buy the new MBP is the only choice we have to voice our displeasure.

Wouldn't it have been better received if they just added $19 USD to the sale price of the MBP and had them ship with the extensions in the box?

How many of these cords do you need? I have a pile of them. They've been the same for every power brick going back many years. When I sell my old Macs (to Gazelle, usually) they don't give extra funds for the power bricks, so I don't return them or the power extension cable. The extra cable adds weight and package size. I guess I'm the odd person who is fine with not having them include the excess material.

Apple's "Hello Again" event has come and gone, leaving us with an abundance of Apple-related news and updates heading into the weekend. Below, we have shared some of the more interesting tidbits that have surfaced over the past 24 hours.

Backlit Apple Logo Removed: As it did with the 12-inch MacBook, Apple has removed the backlit Apple logo on new MacBook Pro models. In its place is a glossy Apple logo in black on the Space Gray model and in white on the Silver model. Apple's older MacBook Pros and 13-inch MacBook Air are now its only notebooks with backlit Apple logos that remain available for purchase. Apple's first notebook with a lit-up Apple logo was the third-generation PowerBook G3 released in 1999.

No Power Extension Cable: In line with the 12-inch MacBook, new MacBook Pro models do not come with Apple's Power Adapter Extension Cable in the box. Previous MacBook Pro models included the extension cable in the box for several years. The extension cable, which provides extra length between the power brick and wall outlet, can be purchased as a standalone product for $19.

Touch Bar Has Automatic Brightness: Jason Snell at Apple blog Six Colors spent time with the new MacBook Pro yesterday and discovered the Touch Bar's brightness is not manually adjustable. Instead, the mini Retina display's brightness varies based on lighting conditions, using the MacBook Pro's built-in ambient light sensor. Apple calls this feature Automatic Brightness on iOS devices. "I wasn't able to try and trick it or confuse it, but the entire time I was using it--in a dark room and in a much more brightly lit one--it seemed to match the keyboard well," he explained.

Price Changes: Apple's price changes extend beyond the United Kingdom. The 12-inch MacBook, for example, has increased $100 in price in Canada, where the 256GB model now sells for $1,649 and the 512GB model retails for $1,999. Meanwhile, the reverse has happened in Norway, where 12-inch MacBook prices have dropped by 1000 kroner for each model. Likewise, in New Zealand, 12-inch MacBook prices are now $200 to $250 lower depending on the model. These adjustments are common as Apple keeps its pricing in foreign currencies in line with the U.S. dollar.

1Password Shares Touch Bar Concepts: AgileBits was so excited about Apple's MacBook Pro event yesterday that it has created some mockups of how 1Password could work with the Touch Bar. 1Password users will be able to unlock the app with Touch ID, for example, while Touch Bar will make it easy to switch between password vaults, select new item types, and create website logins. 1Password also anticipates allowing users to slide their fingers across the Touch Bar to generate a strong password.

Thanks for backing me up @Count Blah .
Shall I start speaking also about Jonathan Ive ineptitude on generation something disruptive in 5 year time for the MBP? or maybe 3 years iPhone 6 6S and 7 being barely the same but faster?

If only we could bring back the times were Apple was 100% disruptive! like in the RETINA MBP, or maybe iPhone 4 4S....

I can't even believe that I like the Surface PRO or the Studio! it goes against my principles, but they are great and versatile! (and they offer a 32Gb option W/O complaining about ¨battery ussage¨thought.....

Cheers

Apple's cables are always $19. Amazon, Monoprice and others sell these cables for much less. I think the benefit of having a standard cable and not having to replace the cable with a $80 Magsafe adapter is a HUGE advantage over worrying about an extension cable. I have a 12" MacBook and thought about buying a longer cable. Instead, I just carry a standard A/C extension cord, because the low wattage, tiny (iPad style) power adapter doesn't need a big grounded connector.

I think the trade off is a benefit for most of us.

So the extension cord that was previously included is now $19 extra?

Apple's greed has no bounds.
