When Apple got rid the of the backlit logo in the MacBook, I was soo against it. But now I prefer it and think it looks hot without it.

Indeed. The biggest obstacle in progress are BELIEVES of the mind... evolutionary resistance agains NEW.
Everyone will eventually get the 2016 model or newer when your old tech starts to crumble into oblivion.

My computer:

Apple Macbook Pro 15" (2012)
- 480GB SSD Main Bay
- 2TB HDD DVD Drive Bay
- 16GB RAM
- SD Slot. Magsafe. 2x USB. Firewire. Battery indicator lights

Its a shame that Apple didn't continue the "Pro" line to focus on Pro features. User upgradable storage and RAM isn't for consumer-level devices but it does help Pros. And "Thin" doesnt benefit Pro users who now have to carry an external drive and a sack of dongles.

I think the touch bar is a nice addition to the MBP but it's hard to say that a machine built on compromises is a machine meant for Pro users.

The glowing logo is disappointing... but not exactly a deal breaker right? And how many people really use the extension lead? I've never used mine. In six years. Whilst it's $19 less 'value' in the box, it's actually better for the environment as it reduces waste.

for real? what laptop is this?

Looks like the "Pismo" PowerBook, but the logo was upside down on all of them for years before the aluminum models came along. The thinking, which no one but Jobs ever agreed with, was that the logo should appear rightside-up when you looked at the closed laptop from the front. At least he eventually came to his senses on that one.

It just comes across as being cheap. The customer pays big bucks for this and Apple cheaps out on a minor add on. That leaves a bad taste in a customer's mouth.

Really Apple?! Nickle and dime the customer? And you want an image as a premier company? You just lost it.

Pretty much. This is something I would expect from Acer selling a $300 laptop.

It's not a big deal. Amazon.com has extension cords for 5 bucks free shipping.

All Apple has done is made the secondary market super easy to access. I have no problems buying a 3 dollar USBC to lightning cable to fix that issue.

I do however probably have to include a bunch of ***** connectors now with my laptop in my laptop bag.

Great ... $3,000 for a laptop and Apple wants an additional $19 for a power extension cable that they have included for years with their other MacBooks.

Of course someone who can afford a $3,000 laptop can afford $19 for the power extension cable, that's not the point.

Apparently Apple loves to nickel and dime people after raising prices ... what did Shiller say "we don't build for price we build for experience", well what kind of experience is Shiller shooting for now.

Instead of immediately jumping on the 'greed' train, I will throw out a couple other potential reasons.

My guess is the lack of extension cord has more to do with 'going green'. Most people can get by without it, so including it in the box is wasteful in Apple's eyes. Not saying it is right, but I think that might be the reasoning. Or maybe they are using the 'Nintendo reasoning', where they are expecting most sales to be replacing old systems. So those people can take the extension cord from their old system to use with their new system.

The lack of glowing Apple logo? The only thing I can think of (other than simply reducing manufacturing/parts cost) is to allow the screen to be thinner. Not sure it was worth it to remove something so iconic though.
