Good thing I'm skipping his upgrade. Was thinking of upgrading. My Late 2013 Macbook Retina 15 with the same specs (2.6ghz, 16gb ram, 1TB) cost me about $3000 with Apple Care. Same specs now cost $4000 and that's without the Apple Care! Insane! Now you can't even add the cable that has come with Macs for a long time?! Pure bs. This line is now a complete ripoff if it already wasn't before.

Instead of immediately jumping on the 'greed' train, I will throw out a couple other potential reasons.

My guess is the lack of extension cord has more to do with 'going green'. Most people can get by without it, so including it in the box is wasteful in Apple's eyes. Not saying it is right, but I think that might be the reasoning. Or maybe they are using the 'Nintendo reasoning', where they are expecting most sales to be replacing old systems. So those people can take the extension cord from their old system to use with their new system.

The lack of glowing Apple logo? The only thing I can think of (other than simply reducing manufacturing/parts cost) is to allow the screen to be thinner. Not sure it was worth it to remove something so iconic though.

If Apple TRULY wants to go "Green"....then they should do away with ALL products & accessories that use leather. Just sayin.

I feel you all, but what the hell are you all gonna buy and work on instead? Dell XPS? Microsoft Surface Book? I was really schocked by the price and gimmicky touch bar, but i still don't see any other product equal in quality and service as what you get with the MBP.

I bought my 2009 Macbook Pro for $249 less than the lowest end 2016 Macbook Pro with functions keys. I thought things were supposed to get cheaper over time especially with flash drive technology, etc etc. This is stupid. Also, I know family members and friends who have the Air and a Macbook Pro and they use them depending on their needs..
Now you have to have to separate chargers plugged in? What a ripoff.. They could have upgraded all of them to USB-C.

Indeed. The biggest obstacle in progress are BELIEVES of the mind... evolutionary resistance agains NEW.
All you cry babies will eventually get the 2016 model or newer when your old tech starts to crumble into oblivion.
No. This time I am getting something non-Apple and finding alternative apps and workflows. The spare AUD$3000 will buy me some awesome camera accessories.

I know at this price point I shouldn't even care anymore for an additional $25, but they could've shown at least a little decency by adding a USB-C to USB-A adapter in the box, at least so that you can connect your iPhone...
Or even better. Give you the option of one adapter. Any adapter you need most. That would have been a nice idea.

If that's the case, why sell it for $19? It is pure greed, period.

The glowing Apple is iconic... What would be a valid reason to end it?
THINNESS Haven't you been paying attention. Thinness is the most important thing at Apple. Headphone jack on phones was jettisoned for thinness. MagSafe on laptops sacrificed for thinness.

CPU, RAM ??? who cares! Apple knows that all computer users ONLY care about their computer being thin. Everything else is secondary.

Sad you can't see when a corporation is nickel and dining you. Apple has offered an extended power cable since the first powerbook. sad that greed got in the way this time around and they want to make that extra 2 dollars it costs to make it off you.

Look, I said I did not think it was right that they are doing this. It's BS. I was just trying to provide alternative reasoning in a sea of negativity. Trying to have an actual conversation instead of just yelling 'GREED!'.

Every time you see a shot of, for example, a DJ using a Mac as his DJ computer, you will see the glowing white Apple logo there. It stands out big time and provides so much free product placement and advertising. Same thing with pretty much any photo of a bunch of people using laptops. The Macs stand out.

Definitely. It's priceless branding that they're just giving up. Phil Schiller has lost his mind.

No extension cord, that is sad. Even sadder are the prices they ask for. I was hoping I could get a good deal at microsoft surfacebook,.. wrong. What's up lately. Have I missed something? Didn't they used to ask 1800 for the high end laptops. Now you have to pay the double.

I find the comments quite funny. The logo is cosmetic, nothing more. Yes, I like the lit logo, but it won't affect me. I'm sure glow-in-the dark apple stickers are on the way.

Regarding the extension cord, I don't know that I ever used one....not sure I've ever seen someone use one....if you do, and you need it, it's $19. People are spending more than $19 worth of time whining about it.

This reminds me of the doom and gloom on Macrumors when -- oh no -- apple changed the iTunes icon.

I wasn't in the market to buy a new system, but if I was, the new MBP honestly wouldn't be it. Hopefully in a few years Apple well regain some sense, to those thinking this is an upgrade from whats been out for the last few years are not with the program. Everything except the port evolution on this system is a compromises.

i culdn't care less about the apple logo, if anything, it won't draw attention or annoy in the dark, so imo it's better this way.

the power cord for 19$ is just bad. they'd better not offer it at all.

how's the bar when watching a movie? can it be turned off at all?

the mute button next to the sememingly mute button feels wrong.

is the siri button there by default and can it be removed?

Wait, I thought people said the glowing Apple logo was pretentious and just for hipsters at the coffee shop. Now it's priceless branding they're giving up? Wtf. iOS devices never had glowing logos. Big deal.
