If you look at the Pluggable pages that aren't trying to grab headlines with Apple attacks, you can get a sense of what the current state of play is for Thunderbolt 3:
http://plugable.com/thunderbolt-3/support/

Every manufacturer has had to go through some hoops to make their stuff work, and many still don't. Apple will get it sorted. The fact that the adapter works under bootcamp means the hardware supports it (unlike some of the PCs listed which don't have hardware support for dual displays).

Thought over the weekend. Ordered a 15" maxed with 1tb. Canceled today. F it. Going to a maxed 2015.
That will last me 3 years at least.

Saved 1k so far in my search to buy one anyway.

already got my 2015 15". works like charm, has amazing keyboard, magsafe and works with anything i already have.

Hard to go wrong with a 2015 MBP. They do everything so well.

I wonder how many people were inspired to buy the 2015 MBP after watching the "hello again" event?

I know one person that was waiting to for the new one to replace his 2010 MBP. After the event, he has been looking at the Apple refurbished 2015 15" MBPs. They had a bunch of different ones on their website 2 days ago, now they are only down to one refurbished model.

Potentially, but it's different when you're talking chargers versus all currently released Thunderbolt 3 devices, of which that interface is your only port on the device.

TB3 is TB3, there should be at the very least a reduced speed connectivity or a compromise rather than a flat out incompatibility.
Yes, but is this an issue on Apple's side or TI's? Do other PCs with TB3 ports have this issue (or might they if they use Intel's new chipset)? I doubt very seriously Apple deliberately engineered their products not to work with specific TB3 devices. Intel obviously released a new chipset for a reason.

I ordered a 2015 13" MBP with the 2.7 GHz chipset and 256 GB storage. Called an hour later to upgrade to the 2.9 GHz and 512 GB. The Apple rep told me they had more than 2000 units left of the the 2.9GHz so I had time to try out the 2.7 GHz before deciding if I wanted the 2.9. The next day I check out the refurb store - 2.9 option was sold out. :(
Yeah, there were some good deals available price/performance compared to the new model- I suspect it will be a very very long time before we see a dozen different Pro laptops gathering dust on Apple's Refurb pages again...

Of course this would make sense, Apple wants you to buy their dongles.

Apple needs to release a dongle like this:

There are like, what, 4 TB 3 products right now? Since you know, you're writing an article like this maybe you could have done some digging to see which products, exactly, won't work. I don't know, it seems crazy, but maybe you could add some facts to your post. Nah, it's getting lots of hits every time you write another negative article about the new MacBook Pros, so keep up the great work.

The fact that there are like, what, 4 TB3 products maybe speaks to a different problem with this MBP..... I don't know, just sayen....

Yup, I mentioned in an earlier post that there were a lot more MBPs on Apple's refurbished page a few days ago. Not any more.

2016 is turning out to be a horrible year. :( the new MacBook Pros suck, the presidential candidates suck, the iPhone 7 doesn't have a headphone jack, what else is Apple going to do to make this worse?? It's like every time there's a new Clinton email leak, there's another article posted here about the MacBook Pro not supporting something or needing another dongle.

The cubs won, so not all is bad ;-)

Is this a case of evolving TB3 standards? A similar issue came up with USB-C since the standard hadn't been finalized in 2015 when Apple released the 12" MacBook. Some chargers that work in the 2015 model don't work for the 2016 model.

How about the most pre-orders of a MacBook Pro ever?

That just means it'll also have the most returns ever...

And we can verify this? Of course marketing says things like this... they lie about stuff all the time.

Yea, these stats could be made up to generate buzz. Look at the stories about how well the AW was selling.

All 4 ports useless other than being used for charging. Apple finally comes up wih essentially a portless macbook pro. they should throw in 4 chargers to allow charging simultaneously through all 4 ports in the mean time.

How about the most pre-orders of a MacBook Pro ever?

It's the most pre-orders made through the Apple Online store for a MBP. Given that 1) there were tons of people waiting for a new MBP, 2) you can't pre-order through any store other than an online store and 3) the last time a MBP was released, the online stores in certain regions (namely China) were barely up and running, it's not exactly surprising. It's a marketing spin (that seems to have worked).

1k saved? so you are going to pay like 2500$ for outdated tech? i'm not sure this is such a good deal..

Well to be fair... nah no excuse for this. I am onboard with the dongle thing, but damn man. A device that is supposed to work. On this new connector has to be redone to work. They went USB-c too early. By about a year. The new model (non-touch) was growing on me too.

Need some good news!
