I'm afraid you will be vastly disappointed until the imminent hardware refresh following Leopard. I don't think this will happen until Oct/Nov or perhaps even Jan.

MBP's will definetely not be refreshed again this year. Even 2008-january is not likely as it would give this tomorrow-to-be-released MBP line only 6 month life cycle. April is more likely, and then we could always hope getting a case redesign with Penryn inside.

If this coming MBP refresh is mind blowing, then it's definetely the last Aluminum revision — next one likely has a new case.

Oh, I think we'll see something. As more LEDs become available, the 17" model will get LED (which I don't think many are expecting this summer).

And shouldn't the title of this thread be "New MacBooks Pro" and not "MacBook Pros?"

there are going to be some very disappointed Apple fans. Looking through this thread so manying outrageous clams are being made.

Touch screen
Screen is iSight
8800 GPU
LED backlight (ok so there is a small possibility)
Quadro (sp) GPU
User serviceable HDD

The update, if there is one, will be basic. The Platform will be updated to Santa Rosa. The GPU, HDD, RAM, Case, will all be the same.

i.e.With Santa Rosa the FSB will be 800mhz so the RAM will be 800mhz to complement the FSB. The HDD will be similar is size. Maybe a increase one step in size from 120gb to 160gb for the base model. The case will not change at all. The GPU is a funny one. Are Nvidia shipping the Mobile 8600 and are AMD/ATI shipping the 2600 GPU's? If they are you can bet on Dx10. If not don't cry.

Intel's current controller is still limited to 667 MHz DDR2 RAM though...
Even for Santa Rosa?

Ok so I never knew that. Do we have a reason for this? So even though the FSB is rated at 800mhz it will only run at 667mhz. Since the FSB connects the Northbridge and RAM. That communication could be limited to the slowest speed being the RAM at 667mhz.

So we don't get 800mhz RAM until Montevina. But it is DDR3-800. That is cooking.

You'll be eating your words on Tuesday. I haven't heard anything about this "user serviceable HDD" that people have cooked up or a new case (very unlikely for this revision), but the 17" MPBs that'll be announced this Tuesday house an nvidia 8600. Also some other changes, like an HD-resolution led screen (1900x1200), and probably some I haven't heard of yet.

Yes even for Santa Rosa.

That is 2004 tech.
The majority of those have been typos...the majority.

What makes you think Apple will stick with a last generation GPU when the newer GPUs are readily available and being offered in machines that cost significantly less than the MBP? I've said it before and I'll say it again: Apple would be crazy to stick with the X1600 for another cycle; It's dated technology (over a year and a half old).

So what you are saying is the mobile versions of the 8600 and 2600 GPU's are shipping?

So they are shipping in limited numbers. Apple to my knowledge never ship a high volume product like the MBP with a limited supply part. Apple like to be able to ship next day. This is why we have waited so long for the Santa Rosa update. We could have had it close a month ago (May 9th). Supply was to limited then.

Yet we have so become used to Apple releasing products that are shipping in threeish weeks and even then being able to ship only limited quantities. Ahh, those great G4 times come to mind :)

Argh... Has that gotten better since the "G4 times"? (I'm a soon-to-be switcher, so I wouldn't know.)

Ahh, Apple inc. What ever happened to Apple Computer. (Yes I know Apple inc is only a recent revelation though it was in the works for many years.)

not entirely true. If i Know apple, they will release the 7300 and 7500's on the two macbook pros u can choose from, later they will bump the 7500's to the lower model, and release the 7700 on the upper. just like they did w/ them last year.

You don't know Apple. :p ;)

Just wait and see.

lol its true, I really don't. I'm just guessing :D

just thought id come in this thread acting like im cool. heheh

C'mon Mr. Jobs, I just graduated from High School and an updated MBP with the works would make a very good graduation gift from you...

SIGNED, except in my case I'm fresh out of the first year of college, but I have the money. It'd be a good, er... "welcome back to college for the second year" gift? :p

ugh

Here's an idea, why not just relax until we see what IS released? It's getting so close to . . . tomorrow haha and WWDC is next week. I've waited for an update since the last one came out and I am totally confidant that Apple will deliver a good sense able update. Reason being? The last update to the Macbook Pro was in November. It wouldn't make sense to update during Leopards release. Why? Because the chipset after SR would be out in January, just three months later. It would make no sense to not go to SR because that wouldn't be making the Macbook Pro "Pro" AND besides what can they update the chipset to, if not SR? Graphics card wise, it's way too old, I heard that it was released in 2005? Shame on Apple for even having it in the Macbook Pros for this long. To not up the graphics card would be ridiculous on Apples part and probably lessen sales for the fact that as I stated before, there is nothing "Pro" about old equipment. HDD, will definitely be bigger, why? Because technology has already brought us faster/bigger hard drives then what Apple is giving us, and Apple is already over pricing their upgrades of the HDDs. Lastly, the possibility of a new case design and/or LED screen can only heighten sales. Who knows if they will actually re-desgn it or put in LEDs, but all it can do is help. My guess

2.4 -2.6 Ghz SR
4GB of RAM capability, I wish it was more, but who knows
Bigger/faster hard drives. Maybe one that is at least 120GB and is 7200RPM
Better Graphics card. Not really sure how much better so it's hard for me to give an exact model.
Same case
Maybe. . . MAYBE LED screens on the 15.4 model.

Lets hope for the best and keep a little faith in Apple.

The 15 inch model MBP has a deliver time of 3 days now in the dutch apple store, saterday was this 24 hours. The 17 inch model the deliver time is still 24 hours
