It has been a while, 202/5 days since the last MBP update, and usually it is around 180/7 days every update, they are up to something big(I hope).
Here is my guess, Lets see:

Santa Rosa
LED Backlit screens
Leopard beta shipped with every MB/MBP/Mac computer, along with a coupon for leopard (full version).
Bigger HD - 200gb., 7200 rpm, or flash
keeping with the affordable price idea, last year the computers were compared with dell computers setup, lower prices. I think that they will compare a Macbook Pro with the baby we just saw above, and they will top its features, but for a more affordable price
14.4 in. MBP
New case for Macbook(Pro)s'
Lets hope the iPhone isnt the biggest focus

I am probably wrong about most of this, I know it.

Well, I know they wont be selling a 14.4" inch Macbook Pro anytime soon...It is too close to the 15". They would not ship a leopard beta because it is reserved for those attending WWDC. If they do update, the prices will be lower, but they are Pro for a reason, and that reason gives them to power to unnecessarily charge more than what is needed just because it is a pro device. So compared to what the price is right now, yes it will cheaper to get one.

Do you guys think there will be annoucement tommorow or around the Jun 11th date. Also if they do announce something tommorow will it go on sale right away or when? also will they have these at the apple store near me (doubt it). This will be my 1st Mac I was going to order a Mac Book last week but when I heard these MBPs may have the Santa Rosa chip I decided to hold on for a bit. I hope it was worth the wait any help or opinons would be great thanks.

ok..time to place bets, less then 24 hours to go, now it's getting exciting.
the 17" remains, gets a nice update, No LED, that's clear by now. There will be only one 15" left, the high end will be updated LED and Santa Rosa (I hope) the low-end is out. That's it for tuesday. Then next monday will be a Leopard presentation using a brand new 13" MBP. Here Steve can show Leopard and a Greener Apple. Probably he'll mention the (hopefully) tuesday update.

There's no way they're going to introduce a new MBP just a week after updating the old ones. They know that the people who bought MBP's a week earlier would be PISSED (and quite rightfully so). I really can't imagine two updates to the MBP line within a week.

Here's my prediction... The default HD size is bumped to 160GB (absolutely necessary, as this is what the BlackBook has) and posssibly at 7,200 rpm. The 15"'s get LED backlighting, and all models get a better GPU (although I don't know which -- I don't know enough about current GPU models) and Santa Rosa. I'm not sure about Robson caching but I tend to doubt that will be included.

I still think that there is a good chance this entire rumor is off, though, and we won't see anything new until WWDC... But darnit I'm excited! :D :apple:

Item 1: probably.
Item 2: maybe.
Rest: not a chance.

Hi everyone, I'm new here and plan on making the switch to my first Mac tomorrow if the rumors are true.

I've read most of the speculations about the 15" MBP getting Santa Rosa and LED screens, but I haven't seen much about the 17" model. If they do get LED screens, would this only be for the 15" one? Is it normal for Apple to announce new features to only one model in the lineup?

Also, does anyone know what time this sort of thing usually occurs? Would it be sometime early in the morning or what?

Sorry if any of this has been discussed, but there is just way too much information on this forum! And since I'm new, I can't really tell which posts are accurate.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

You think the updated models this month will include a either a discount or free coupon for Leopard? Microsoft did this for computers purchased a couple months before Vista launch....

Everyone's missed one other change so far...Higher-resolution (in addition to LED) screens (1900x1200 on the new 17" MPBs)

Nope. The only free upgrades in the past have been for machines purchased after the announced release date, but with the old OS preinstalled. Otherwise, you get to pay the $129 like everyone else.

The stats are skewed, because there have been few updates that should not have been counted in the first place. The proper average between updates is about 210 days or 7 months and tomorrow's rumoured release would fit perfectly (without being overdue at all).

And I love it that there isn't updates every now and then. After I order a new MBP, I like to know that it is the "current" model for at least more than half a year.

800MHz DDR-2

Even for Santa Rosa?

Ok so I never knew that. Do we have a reason for this? So even though the FSB is rated at 800mhz it will only run at 667mhz. Since the FSB connects the Northbridge and RAM. That communication could be limited to the slowest speed being the RAM at 667mhz.

So we don't get 800mhz RAM until Montevina. But it is DDR3-800. That is cooking.

As I previously stated, it is possible that Intel will increase the memory controller to 800MHz for the SR revision when Penryn is released. This would make upgrading to the new SR chipset compelling for OEMs. If so, this would be for DDR2-800.

As you stated, DDR-3 support starts with Montevina at 800MHz.

Just FYI..

I know that the Apple Store will be down for maintance 4-5:30am PT tomorrow, the last time they had scheduled maintenance like this they released the 8-Core Mac Pro.. :)

Top Banana - bring it on! I know, I know, I have one already...but, boy, I love launch days! :D

If you're telling the truth, wahoo! but you're probably in trouble...if not (I cynically assume) GET OUTA 'ERE! :)

Ah, thanks. For some reason I thought it was smaller. Oh, I know, I was confusing them with the old 12" Power Books (I think lol). Thanks.

The iBooks came in 12" and 14" sizes, they were also white plastic like the macbook :)

Am hoping they are also going to upgrade the 17" to LED and its just that the shipment data hasnt leaked. I need to get a new 17" MBP and have 2 weeks in which to order it so am going to wait until at latest the WWDC - I would just be gutted if they upgrade the 15 and leave the 17 as is.

You really think they will do NOTHING to the low-end 15"??? Leaving it several hundred dollars more than the high end macbook but no better for another year? I find that hard to believe...

I agree. With the latest MacBook updates, the product differentiation between the top end MacBook and the low end MBP is too little, especially when factoring in the cost differential. The MBPs will indeed be receiving a significant update, and hopefully sooner rather than later.
