You mean ThinkSecret's article? ;) (jk)

So, who's gonna go ahead and order right away, and who's gonna wait until after WWDC to see if anything of interest comes out then?

I'll be waiting. First sem of uni is drawing to a close, no point getting one now. Shall probably wait until the end of this month or so, after tests.
Shall start next semester happily with a new MBP!

And there's always the chance MBPs will come with a free Leopard voucher after WWDC. Remember: If Apple had stayed on schedule with Leopard, it would be coming with the new MBPs anyway.

I just want a new video card for a little more DX9 performance and 512 MB of video RAM. I don't expect DX10 performance from anything short of an 8800 Series.

If apple does go the Nvidia route, I'd expect a Quadro - basically pro edition of any other 'consumer' Nvidia chip - more thoroughly tested, etc.

I'd enjoy an update so I can get one for school too...

No, it hasn't been at most a few weeks, it has been 3 months before (Jan. announcement, April release). Jobs has announced new OS's and then provided upgrade coupons for those that buy new macs after the announcement but before the final release at least twice in the past.

Since this anouncement is the first Official demo of the full featured OS and it is being given by Jobs, it is almost a certainty that Apple will provide upgrade coupons for those that buy new macs after WWDC. Otherwise a lot of people will hold off buying new hardware just to save the $130.00 they know they will want to spend in October.

Besides Jobs will feel guilty for once again missing a deadline that he personally announced. He is going to want to encourage people to buy hardware and get Leopard in the hands of those users ASAP.

Slightly unrelated questions about Leopard: Right now Apple.com says that it's $130 to buy Tiger. But is that for the full version or just an upgrade? Or is there just an upgrade and no "full" version (because it's not like you start out with Windows installed on your Mac and then decide one day, "I want to install OS X now", if you know what I mean)? Mostly I ask because I'm wondering if the Leopard release in October will be both full installs and upgrades? If it's full installs, does that mean I will have to uninstall my current Tiger installation before installing Leopard? Because I'll probably already have Windows Boot Camped, and I'll have tons of files and everything already loaded, so I don't want to have to back that all up and clear it for a fresh install. Will that be necessary?

there is only one version, the "full version". but you can choose to upgrade instead of erase and install

It's a workstation card designed for CAD and other graphical design needs...

It's just derived off of the mainstream and enthusiast cards that fall under the GeForce line. FireGL for ATI's derivations off of the Radeon series.

I hope you're right but I will be truly shocked if Apple gives away Leopard for (at least) four months prior to its release. A lot of people hold off buying new hardware prior to an expected OS release anyway. This is nothing new.

Was a "deadline" announcement ever really made? All I ever heard was "around spring, 2007."

Technically, that makes the deadline June 21, 2007. But then when Leopard was delayed, Apple announced in the press release that Leopard's original release date had been June 11, during WWDC.

Apple.com's hot news section said:
we had to borrow some key software engineering and QA resources from our Mac OS X team, and as a result we will not be able to release Leopard at our Worldwide Developers Conference in early June as planned.

Late June- iPhone release with special event, debuts with previously unmentioned feature(s), lots of advertising, lots of fanfare, unboxing photos on every tech website and blog

I have to say that this sounds about right with me (well atleast I hope and prey it is). The only part I don't agree with is the "Display IS the built in iSight".

Have we forgotten the MultiTouch technology Apple has been working on. Couldn't they put that into use into some type of display? What do you guys think?

Is the upgrade process messy and painful or pretty straightforward?

Dunno. Would you classify having to click on the destination disk, and then having to make a choice out of like 3 possible options before pressing "install" messy and painful?

Personally I would call it dead easy.

No iSight screen, no multitouch for a couple of years yet. No practical use to normal people.

Nice. Sounds good to me!

Thanks.

What happened to MULTIMEDIA??? Are you still out there???

Haven't heard ROCKETMAN's predictions lately...:D :D :D

Well... How's June looking???

Jobs did say "Huge investment in desktops..." or something like that.

Good point...

"Oh Muuultimeeediaaa??? Are you still heeere???"

Nope? Seems he's been reduced to the one form of media... pen and paper.
And clearly Rocketman blew himself up. Shouldn't have been playing so much with that N2O.

EDIT: Post no. 666. Hope I didn't just jinx ya Rocketman!

Nah, both RM & MM accidentally ended up in my butt :eeks: They will recover and be back with the usual MR nonsense, I assure you!

I have nothing more to say, until Penryn & faster than magnetic recording SSD drives are an option, LED 2k res. MBP 17in arrive next year (well maybe I can't keep my butt shut for that long, lol)!

Except for, LMFAO; this waiting of post PC SR announcements is almost as good as forever waiting for PB G5 rumors of next Tuesday. Whoever said the switch to Intel CPU's would change Apple's laggard updating schedule was sorely mistaken....the more things change, the more they stay the same at Apple (except for the stock price of course ;) ).

New MacBook Pros coming as early as Tuesday

Apple may fart on tuesday, think secret has learned.

If Apple doesn't fart on tuesday, the gas will start to back up and they will eventually fart at some point.

What's unclear right now is when it comes time for Apple to fart, we don't know if they will fart twice or fart three times. If they fart three times, that would be nice. It would also be nice if they fart on Tuesday. That would make our guessing good. But if they don't fart on tuesday, and no one smells it on tuesday, then we still cant be wrong because we said apple would fart "as early as tuesday."

We have no specs on the fart, or even the size of the fart (15 inchers or 17 inchers). The only thing we know is that ONCE BEANS GO IN -> GAS MUST COME OUT!

So. ThinkSecret believes Apple will fart at some point this month but we have no idea if it will be 2 farts, three farts, if it will smell like poo or if it will be big.

Thanks

RYAN KATZ

Death, taxes & Apple farts, lol...classic.

WTF, we have pg2. & pg 1 rumors about the same farting, come on MR, fold one or the other rumor into one forum...you can't have it both ways, sheesh!

Cross referencing, duplicitous MR's forum threads pg1. & pg2 :D

Buying Advice

I am really looking forward to this update seeing as I will be going to the U.S. (NYC) on the 16th, so will buy mine then.
Does anyone sugest waiting buying the update (on the 5th) to see what software is released at WWDC, or will Apple not release consumer software like iLife/iWork at a developer's conference?
If I do that, however, am I running the risk of there being no MBP's in stock??
Could I ring up an apple store and reserve one or do they just not do that??
Any help would be appreciated!

Wait for the 11th. Buy after Steve's Keynote.

Do you think there's a risk of having my/his order delayed for a long time if we do that? (Because surely other MBP buyers will be ahead of us...) How long do you think it would take to ship, a few weeks or a few days?

On the website it says 24 hours. And depending on your shipping method, about 4-5 business days to delivery.

However, in my case, I ordered a MBP on the 29th of May, and my final delivery date was pushed back to Wednesday, June 6th, even though I orderd 2 day shipping.

Infact, a lot of people who ordered theirs as much as 5 days before us all have the same delivery date as me; further evidence they're wating to give us our MBPs in fear the specs of the "new" ones they give us will leak before the update.

i have one question......where will i get it faster, from the apple store online or from a retailer (no apple store where i live)

thanks

do you guys think i should wait before buying it on Tuesday? Will there be bugs? Also, should i order it online or just go to the store?

New MBPs

Jobs introduced Intel iMacs in January 2006 and shocked everyone.

Jobs will shock and awe once again at WWDC with new iMac design on June 11th.

MacBook Pros will be updated on June 5th like many are speculating.

How about this:
- New MBPs next week - for 15 and 17 inch - ho hum Santa Rosa update, and hopefully a magnetic latch and easy HD access

- At WWDC - they introduce a new 12 inch MBP with Santa Rosa, SD HD, and LED screen. Ultra Portable, and gee whiz cool.

As I posted earlier, my order for a 17" MBP back on May 27 has been on hold and recently had its expected ship date set to "June 1-June 5", leading me to believe that they will be included with some updates. I know that the LEDs supposedly purchased were for the 15.4" model so I am not too optimistic about my chances for that. I've read a lot of ideas on here, but what is everyone's opinion about what might be included on an update of the 17"MBP? Thanks for your input. Tuesday is fast approaching.

From my personal experience, this is Apple's method of operation (I've had it happen twice).

Since their pricing model doesn't really change, they send you the same priced machine, with the new goodies to match what you paid. OK, were told you were going to pay since they don't charge you until it ships.

When my orders were placed on hold, the "reason" I was given was a "backlog". When the update was announced, I got my shipping confirmation and the specs of the order were then updated.

Same price, just more machine.

If you have BTO options, they bump those too, to keep the price you paid the same.

For example if you upped your hard drive to the next biggest one above the stock size, like if 120G was stock and you bumped it to 160G for example, and then the stock went from 120G to 160G with the first level upgrade was 200G (for the same money), you would end up with a 200G drive since you paid for a BTO option.

So, in short, yes. If there is an update coming you'll get the new specs. If the delay is by some off chance related to supply and there isn't an update on the immediate horizon, then you would still get what you ordered once the supply is available.

.
What happened to MULTIMEDIA??? Are you still out there???

I was wondering the same thing.

---

If we indeed are looking at an update here, then it won't be in similar fashion as the MB bump last month.

I can't see any logical possibilities where there wouldn't be an update in the platform tech, since the MB's are pretty close in proc/drive size to the Pro line now.

LED's, I have no idea. To me it doesn't make sense for the 15's to have it but not the "top of the line" 17's. But who knows for sure?

One thing I do think though, is that for every "leak" we read there's 10 we don't know about. So maybe they did get a bunch of 15" LED's, and maybe they got a bunch of 17" LED's we didn't hear about. Or maybe they weren't 15" after all. I guess we'll see.

However, I'll join the line with funds in hand as I am now in need of a new portable. Being able to drop 2x2G chips in it would be nice, but then again so would 2x4G chips as well (because I could :D).

I'm just going to wait and see what happens, and go from there.
