Based on all rumblings, we are very confident that MacBook Pros will be arriving in the morning (Tues, June 5th)... but the exact specs of the new laptops are uncertain.

However, piecing together various reports, here are the possible specs for (some) of the new MacBook Pros.

- 2.2GHz, 4mb shared L2 cache, 2GB of 667mhz ram, 120gb, GeForce 8600M GT 128mb
- 2.4GHz, 4mb shared L2 cache, 2GB of 667mhz ram, 160gb, GeForce 8600M GT 256mb

Those specs would be bad ass. I have no problem with that.

MBP Order [Update]

Hey all.
I have some interesting news to share...

A girl I work with ordered a MacBook Pro on May 30th.
After placing her order, she received the following ship/delivery dates:
Ships by: May 30 - Jun 1
Delivers by: Jun 1 - Jun 4

Today she checked her order status and her dates have changed.
Ships by: May 31 - Jun 4
Delivers by: Jun 4 - Jun 8

She just called Apple and asked the reason for the change in ship/delivery dates. The CSR placed her on hold and returned telling her (in a tone my friend described as "less than confident") that they were experiencing a "high number of orders due to back to school." They then bumped her up to 2-Day shipping, when it does ship.

I can't help but think a June 5th MBP bump is legit.
Now what that bump entails, is anyone's guess.
I'm going with... Santa Rosa, 2GB standard ram, magnetic latch and that's all. I'm just not feeling LED, yet.

Quoting myself... Neat.

Just a follow up on the above info...
I just learned that her MBP shipped.
Currently sitting in Alaska, set to deliver Wednesday morning.
Not a word from Apple about any upgrade to her order - tho I can't say they would let her know until such info was public. Anyone know how Apple has handled similar situations in the past?

Thanks.

Hi,

just checked amazon´s website for the macbook pros and there´s a big hint that there might be a newer version of the notebook :)

Good find! I wonder if you messed with the URL and put the new product number in [it's floating around in a picture in this thread I think?], if it would bring up a webpage.

That notice comes up on both models of the Macbook pro 15" but not on the 17" Macbook pro.

This wasn´t there a couple of hours ago. (It´s the product page of amazon.com for the macbook pro 2.16 / 1 / 120 , which I happen to visit quite often these days in expectation of a new MBP)

I look at it this way. It has to be a santa rosa update, because what else is there that the MBP can use? The 1st gen Merom chips are already maxed out, and now we just need some LEDs!

hey guys,

all of this is getting me so damn excited! I just want to be the first one at the apple store tomorrow to buy my first mac! But my dad says that we should wait because its a new version. I say no bc its not new software, just new hardware. Please, shed some light on the situation! I have the money, now i just need the laptop! I cant wait!

Wait until after WWDC, because they might announce free Leopard upgrades to post-WWDC Mac buyers. Also wait until then, because I don't want you to be ahead of me in line for a new MBP :p Seriously though, I'll be waiting until after WWDC and I would suggest you do the same (esp. because a lot of people are suggesting there could be a smaller version of the MBP presented at WWDC).

I posted my experience a few pages back.

Granted, in both cases the product did not ship until after the update had been announced.

Oh... Dance Off, will ya?

LOL

Sorry, couldn't help myself. :D

Ah, thanks. For some reason I thought it was smaller. Oh, I know, I was confusing them with the old 12" Power Books (I think lol). Thanks.
It happens.

As I previously stated, it is possible that Intel will increase the memory controller to 800MHz for the SR revision when Penryn is released. This would make upgrading to the new SR chipset compelling for OEMs. If so, this would be for DDR2-800.

As you stated, DDR-3 support starts with Montevina at 800MHz.
Penryn should be a drop in for the Santa Rosa refresh. Just like Merom was for the Napa platform.

In the past, when Apple gave a free or discounted upgrade to the OS if you purchased a mac before the OS was released-- was it required that you purchase from Apple, or can you buy from Amazon, for instance, and still get the OS upgrade when it is out?

They simply can't put another Napa update because they already use the fastest Intel Napa processors available.

http://www.intel.com/products/processor/core2duo/specifications.htm

Check it out by yourself! The only thing right now they can do is to offer 2.2Ghz and 2.4Ghz with Santa Rosa.

Intel offers 2.6GHz/800FSB Merom too, but why other OEM manufactures are not using it? The 800FSB runs hotter than the 667FSB chip. For the same microarchitecture, Intel could have released 2.5GHz (166.66 x 15) and 2.66GHz (166.66 x 16) parts to better match the existing DDR2-667 memory. 800FSB+ will be more ideal for the 45nm Penryn generation. If we don't see Apple release 2.6GHz MBP for SR upgrade, we probably know why, need a case redesign to cope with the heat!

I surely hope you mean a 200GB Hard drive. :)
Y, typo.

Not sure what this will mean. Maybe a 17" LCD, who knows?
