Not sure what this will mean. Maybe a 17" LCD, who knows?

That wasn't there an hour ago. Amazon must have added the Macbook Pro's to their inventory. It would be great if we could figure out the product number.

In the past, when Apple gave a free or discounted upgrade to the OS if you purchased a mac before the OS was released-- was it required that you purchase from Apple, or can you buy from Amazon, for instance, and still get the OS upgrade when it is out?
Typically (not always) as soon as Apple announces an OFFICIAL release date for a new OS, any purchaser of a Mac after the announcement is eligible to order an OS upgrade disc for $20 (shipping charge) from Apple after the release. So far an official release date has not been announced so I don't expect any such offer or eligibility until an announcement. The announcement will probably be sometime in early fall.

I can not take this ... the pressure and stress is killing me.

I am so excited ... I am staying up until 12:01 AM PST; if i see anything screwy with apple.com I will be the first at the apple store tomorrow morning. I will also take the next few days off to install CS3 and Aperture go on a mobile workstation photo shoot.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Well, it's almost always 8:30am EST when they release it on the Apple page etc... the day of release...

Calm down and prepare for a letdown. ;)

If MacBooks Pro are released tomorrow it's probably going to be a minor speed bump and not all that exciting.

If they aren't released tomorrow and released at WWDC, the news will probably be more interesting.

Either way, be prepared.

Oh, and nothing is likely to happen tonight at midnight. It'll more likely be around 6:00 a.m. PDT if something does.

Further anecdotal evidence

I've had a 2.33GHz custom build on order for a couple of weeks. My reseller tells me she's been advised by reliable industry insiders to stay up until 3am (we're in Australia) for details on the Macbook Pro upgrade.

The bummer for me is that my machine was shipped on June 1.

It's not due to arrive until June 8. If it's not an upgraded version what are my chances for asking Apple for the better machine (ie. not taking delivery of the older one when it does come in), and

Would I have to wait for another two weeks for them to put a 160Gig hardrive on it?

Has anyone had a similar experience? all advice welcome.

I read somewhere (from another user on this forum) that if you buy a new :apple: product that you can return it if they come out with new one's within 2 weeks of your purchase.

Is there anyone here who can comfirm this, or correct this?

On the Apple website, under return a product in customer service you can return it!

RETURN & REFUND POLICY
If you are not satisfied with your Apple purchase of a product, please call 1-800-676-2775 for a Return Material Authorization (RMA) request within 14 calendar days of the receipt of the product. Configure-to-order, personalized or other customized product may not be returned for refund or exchange under any circumstances unless DOA. If the item is returned unopened in the original box, we will exchange it or offer you a refund based on your original method of payment. The product must be returned to the Apple warehouse within 14 calendar days of the issuance of the RMA. All products must be packed in the original, unmarked packaging including any accessories, manuals, documentation and registration that shipped with the product. A 10% open box fee will be assessed on any opened hardware or accessory. If you purchased your order using an Apple Business Lease, you may be asked to provide a major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover) for Apple to assess the 10% open box restocking fee.

Please note that Apple does not permit the return of or offer refunds for the following products:

1. Product that is custom configured to your specifications
2. Opened memory
3. Opened software*
4. Electronic software downloads
5. Personalized iPods
6. Software Up to Date Program Products (SW upgrades)
7. Apple Gift Cards
8. Apple Gift Packaging (origami style gift box with ribbon and greeting card)
9. Apple Developer Connection Products (Membership and Technical Support)

*You may return software after rejecting the licensing terms, provided the software is not installed on a computer. However, software that contains a printed software license may not be returned if the seal or sticker on the software media packaging is broken.

* NOTE: Apple recommends that you (1) use a carrier that offers shipment tracking for all returns and (2) either insure your package for safe return to Apple or declare the full value of the shipment so that you are completely protected if the shipment is lost or damaged in transit. If you choose not to (1) use a carrier that offers tracking and (2) insure or declare the full value of the product, you will be responsible for any loss or damage to the product during shipping. Please note that the United States Postal Service (USPS) offers limited tracking capabilities and that there is a 30-calendar-day waiting period before the USPS will initiate a trace.

If the product does not have any custom configured options and is unopened, you can return it within two weeks for a full refund (10% restock fee is opened) according to the policy found online at the Apple Store.

That sounds like something the Genius Bar would laugh you out of a store for. :)

Haven't people said this before? It can't be a speed bump because the current chipset can't handle any higher...amiright?

Yes, this has been repeated about 832 times but nobody seems to pay attention.

I consider santa rosa and not much else new a "speed bump."

Santa Rosa isn't anything huge from what I gathered, but it is certainly better than the crap they did with the MBs a couple of weeks ago. It supports faster processors, more RAM, (and a higher FSB speed?) right?

I'm thinking that whatever update we may see in the MBP is essentially what can be planned on being seen in the new iMacs, other than a possible design refresh for them.

I have a feeling the iMac upgrade will be more dramatic than the MBP. Like it'll have a touch screen or something. But I agree that it will probably get similar specs bumps to the MBP (i.e., SR, GPU, etc.).

I can't even sit still over here. I might just pull an all-nighter refreshing the Apple store. (And I have work tomorrow  )

haha. i am here with you buddy. same exact boat.:)

isnt this just a rumor? people are acting as if mbps WILL be updated. they probably arent - why would apple update so close to WWDC? Anyway im still excited

And to think: some people think I'm weird cause when I wake up from my computer I take one step to my desk and check forums.

Yeah, they're rumors. But there is good evidence supporting at least a release by next Monday. Last time there were big rumors like this, though, they were for the MBs that came out less than 12 hours after the rumors.

If SR is in, then processor will be new too, HDD probable, Graphics probable - is that still a 'speed bump'?
I don't know what exactly would qualify in my mind as more than a speed bump. Something surprising would be nice.

A redesign of the four year old case, even if minor would be welcome. That would include easier access to the hard drive, a magnetic latch and maybe a more dent resistant surface. High resolution LED displays and better GPUs would certainly be cool. More standard memory is obvious since memory is so cheap and MBPs are so expensive. Ditto for bigger faster hard drives. How about some flash memory for booting? (The OS could be on flash; all data would be on a HD.) A third model in the lineup, 12 or 13" widescreen is needed.

I guess everything you and I can think of is what I'd like to see in the next lineup but I don't think very much of it will happen; especially if the update comes this Tuesday.
