isnt this just a rumor? people are acting as if mbps WILL be updated. they probably arent - why would apple update so close to WWDC? Anyway im still excited

No, it's not "just a rumor."

1. Back to School promo starts tomorrow = very likely.
2. Corroboration between multiple reliable sources = very likely.
3. Past history with Back to School promos and launches
4. I know so, along I doubt you'll believe me since I'm just a random poster on a forum to you.

But yes, it is still exciting. :D

A redesign of the four year old case, even if minor would be welcome. That would include easier access to the hard drive, a magnetic latch and maybe a more dent resistant surface.

Don't you think that a full on case redesign would deserve a spot in the keynote next Monday?

Having a spot in the keynote doesn't mean they have to actually announce it at the keynote. I doubt Apple would want to launch the Back to School promo tomorrow and then get angry customers next week after people have ordered old-generation MBPs and they announce the Santa Rosa generation.

i mean i get being excited, but why the heck would you do that to yourself dude? there won't be anything up until morning. get some sleep

Lol, I won't actually pull an all-nighter... But if I wake up in the night (as I often do) I'll definitely be checking apple.com.

IT seems real early for back to school...I just finished my finals 2-3 weeks ago!
I guess you're right - there are multiple sources for this one. I cant wait to see what apple has up their sleeve. but i can predict many will be disappointed if its "just a speed bump"

here is what i was wondering. first of all, when the MBP's are updated i will be a switcher (yay) i have been waiting for a while to move over but have been low on cash/parents will to help me out a bit. anyway, i live in a city with no apple store but my mom will be in one on Friday. if MBP's are released tomorrow, whats the fastest way to get a hold of one. online first thing tomorrow, or apple store on the weekend. also, should the apple stores still have the the new models on Saturday.
thanks

haaha ok crazyman I can only imagine what you have to resort to when there is no update to turn to when you wake up late night.

if you want it BTO the apple store won't be able to do it (except ram). but it depends on what they release i guess...

I really want to replace my 700m in favor of something faster. If an ultraportable macbook pro is released...I will have to consider it against hte lenovo x61 (tablet probably)

I have a feeling the iMac upgrade will be more dramatic than the MBP. Like it'll have a touch screen or something. But I agree that it will probably get similar specs bumps to the MBP (i.e., SR, GPU, etc.).

I can't even sit still over here. I might just pull an all-nighter refreshing the Apple store. (And I have work tomorrow  )

What is all this touch screen nonsense? Apple will not be releasing any touch screen iMacs or MacBook Pros. There needs to be a "niche gimmicks that Apple will never make" thread.

A thinner iMac would be nice, and that may be unrealistic at this point. I'll be buying a new MBP tomorrow morning.

To be completely honest, I'd prefer to have the MBP update come at WWDC because I'm waiting until then to buy anyways (and I don't want to have to wait forever cause of the order backlog). But I'm just excited to find out what specs the new MBP's will have.

the imac is quite thin...is it even possible to make it siginificantly thinner?

I wasn't saying that was a definite or something. I'm just suggesting the possibility. I heard that the new iMac was supposed to be all revolutionary and blow people away. So I'm just speculating...

it depends on whether or not you will be adding any of the options to it. If you do add options, you should order online. That said, if you order online it will likely take 1 day to process order and 2 days to ship, which, if everything goes perfectly gets you it on Friday. If your mom gets it and brings it back to you, assuming she is willing to lug the big black box home, you will get it at best by Fri or Sat, if that is when she is coming home. So I say have her get you one if possible and if she is unable to do so just wait until Monday and see if anything comes out at WWDC.

what do you mean order backlog? if it is released today or next monday, there will be not that much of a difference in demand that it would really impact apple's shipping ability. this is a major company, not a mom and pop ebay shop.:D

Well, I mean if I wait until Monday even though it's released tomorrow, wouldn't I have to wait a while because of the influx of new orders between tomorrow and Monday? If not, that would be awesome. This was one of my main concerns in choosing whether to wait for WWDC or not.

You are mean for making me snort soy milk out of my nose at 12:19 AM. :p

Yes I do. That's why if the update comes this Tuesday as everyone here is speculating, I think it'll be a minor update. (Minor being an update that will disappoint most of us.)

Don't get me wrong. A move to santa rosa and related hardware, a hard drive capacity bump and a new GPU will be welcome and is due. I just think Apple could do much better and I'm beginning to think it'll be six more months until they do.

OK, I think everyone needs to define what they mean when they say things like "minor bump" and "major upgrade". To me, what you just described (SR, bigger HD, and a new GPU) is all I need. What else are you really looking for?

To me, a "disappointing minor bump" would be something like a bigger hard drive and maybe a resolution bump, along with making all SuperDrives 8x.

I believe it would be possible... however I'd guess they won't change the case until the backlights can be LED's or similar alternative. That saves some thickness... and they may be able to implement some of the interior design elements of a notebook into a thinner iMac. The Apple patent where enclosure parts are structurally bonded together to form a singular composite structure could result in not only thinner notebooks but thinner iMacs as well.

intersting

I find the current i Mac design quite futuristic in itself - it looks like no other computer on the market. i also think the design is great - if it ain't broken, don't fix it I guess is my opinion.
a thinner iMac would be sick though!

See my post #524 above.

If you've been waiting for a while to buy a MBP, that will be a significant upgrade and a heckuva lot better than the recent MacBook update. You'll get yourself a fine machine.

Perhaps I just expect too much. MBPs are very expensive notebooks and I don't think they're worth the money. In my mind, nothing short of adding/upgrading everything that's technologically possible would make them so.

Well, you do have pretty high expectations (after reading post #524). I've been waiting since January/February or thereabouts  So yeah, I'm pretty much willing to take anything.
