Reload the iTMS front page and look in the middle of the page, it should be right there. It will take you to your education Apple Store page or the Apple Store front page if you don't have an education page. The Apple Store isn't updated with the promo yet, but this shows that the Back to School '07 promo is indeed launching tomorrow.

Nope not there. I wonder if its because it's not officially 12 o'clock here yet?

UPDATE: Restarted iTunes and sure enough there it was!

yea, i see it. Well then...i guess i will be getting a free nano tomorrow as well as a new mbp! Except, does the promotion work in the apple stores as well or only online?

Ya I noticed that first too. I thought that was what you were talking about. Then I restarted iTunes and everything appears how the images show.

Orange.... interesting.... lol (not that the color is significant... or is it...):p

I was thinking more along the lines of another name change.

Apple Computer

Apple Inc.

Orange Inc. ;)

I'm tirrred of waiting lol...I can't believe I'm letting a computer company psychologically torment me!

The iTunes Store has just been updated and has a new ad on the homepage:

"Free iPod Nano with the purchase of a new Mac"

Yet the Apple Store has not been updated yet and doesn't say anything about Back To School 07..

Hmmm, nice find.
One thing appears certain: Back-to-school program starts in a few hours.

Well all... I'm out. Going to go take several brands of medication and knock myself out. I can't stand it anymore. LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO APPLE!.... ORANGE!

The MBP update is inside your mind, don't fall asleep, you'll be trapped in speculatory torture! :apple:

Haha... Yeah I'm heading to bed too. Hoping to wake up to new LED-backlit MBP's (with maybe 512MB of Nvidia VRAM??!)

Gnite all!

DUDE!

You guys know how Amazon was saying "a newer version may be available" of the MBP? Well, now they're offering a $150 rebate on the high-end 15" and 17" MBP's!

Giggity.

Its like waiting for Santa Claus on Christmas morning.:D

Except better. I'm not even a hardcore Mac fan; I just love the form-factor [1" thick] and the stability of the OS [Ubuntu Studio is hot, though!], but I'm really hoping the update kicks in.

Oh, and to whomever posted the link to the 8600M product page http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8M_fbs.html:

The 'maximum' supported memory is 512MB, not the default configuration. Generally such cards can scale from 128MB to 512MB, though 256MB is more likely to the be the baseline. I'm predicting 256MB across the board on the 15" MBP's [as I stated before], and on the off-chance the 17" gets a resolution boost [it's keeping the CCFL backlight], 512MB in those to give it the texture memory it needs to support that resolution.

I think it would be crazy for Apple to have only one 15" option, especially if that one option is over $2000. I think the low-end MBP needs to be dropped in price a couple hundred as it is.

Why would it be crazy if Apple introduced a smaller (low-end) MBP below 2k price point? Apple is all about simplicity and number three. There has been three PowerBook/MBP models for as long as I can remember. Remember, "fast, faster, fastest".

But memory is a tricky thing to handle. Now that I wrote the first point I suddenly began to think if there was four models (two 15-inchers) for sale when there was the 12-incher...

Oh, well — remains to be seen ;)

In the past, when Apple gave a free or discounted upgrade to the OS if you purchased a mac before the OS was released-- was it required that you purchase from Apple, or can you buy from Amazon, for instance, and still get the OS upgrade when it is out?

It doesn't matter where you buy, it's just that the date in your invoice must fit into the time frame that Apple specifies. If they say there's going to be a free Leopard upgrade for all new computer purchases on or after 11-June, then that's it. It's all about the invoice date.

I won't buy it unless it has 256 MB of video RAM stock.

WTF?? 128MB is plenty. There was a time not so long ago that 128MB of computer main memory was enough. But computer-wise, seven years seems to be forever.

Hell, I remember the times when I had a super nice Trident GPU with 512kB of video ram, user upgradeable to full megabyte!! That was in the early 90's when today's hardcore gamers were not even born yet.

Oh, well — today the image looks 500x better than back then. Must be because of 500x more memory ;)

Not at a 1440x900 resolution, really. It's way behind the current standard, and it shows.

64MB is more than okay at 1280x854 resolution (1.1MP) and 1440x900 (1.3MP) is not that much more. I mean, come on, there's exactly 202880 pixels more and those don't actually require 5X more memory than the first megapixel...

If something is "standard spec", it is mostly so because salesmen have decided to up the numbers every now and then. If some company sells more memory, others will follow, and soon everyone sells people stuff they don't really need.

That said, I do realize that some people in the category "hardcore gamers" can enjoy even the very slightest performance boosts. As long as it brings one more frame per second, it's great. I myself tend to think that anything more than 25 frames per second (or 40ms per frame) is very highly overrated, as long as we're talking about progressive picture — I hate interlaced ;)

looking to buy a new macbook pro as my first mac before go off to uni so new to all this - should i be worried if the back to school promotion icon isnt showing in itunes uk, only in usa for me? does this mean the uk stores wont get the new MBP til after the US?

The back-to-school program isn't global; not every country has the same academic calendar as the 'States. What is global though is product releases [barring the iPhone, before someone tries to point that out], so expect a new MBP in the UK store if one is released in the US store.
