Since a friend of mine showed me his MacBook (newest model at the moment), I was sold. I want one of those too, instead of a laptop with Windows Vista or something! Almost bought one but luckily I found out a new line of Macbooks should arrive pretty soon.. Can't wait for that too happen.

Since I'm not in the mood for reading this thread fully, can someone tell me what the expected time of release is for the new Macbooks, according to the best reliable rumors? :D

Either today or November 6th.

No.you can't..I can see your point because you have 3 month telephoneservice and 1 year warranty...So you should do it after 2 months..But you can't..

Are you 100% sure about this? I found another topic on this forum that says you can buy it anywhere within one year of your macbook purchase. That would make sense tbh, why would apple force you to get some warranty now when you don't really have any use for it in the first year? I am defenitely planning on expanding my warranty but that it's expensive and it's keeping me from buying my macbook after the update.

I just came back from the leopard launch here in Singapore... No new macbooks sadly, cos I'm waiting for one too...

Overflowing stocks of Mac Os X, they littered the store with it... Trays and trays of it...

So prob. nov6 as multimedia has said?

I've posted pictures of the tee under the Mac OS X thread =)

I wouldn't expect new macbooks in Singapore before they are launched in the US anyway. I am no expert at this but I think that IF apple launches new macbooks today they will do it online first and they will be in their stores tomorrow or early next week.

Although, It's probably gonna be November 6th.

Where has this November 6th date come from, I have only heard that date being mentioned on here. I would be glad if it true as it would be earlier then expected but I would have thought an update might happen around the 14th or 15th 2 weeks after the back to school offer has finished. Or maybe the 20th as updates generally happen on a Tuesday.

We know the Mac Pro is November 13 if not January 15. We know next week is Leopard-Is-Coming Week. We know October 30 is Beggers Night or Halloween Eve. We know November 20 is Thanksgiving & Black Friday Eve.

So that only leaves Tuesday November 6 if not next Tuesday. It's a logical deduction not a prediction. I certainly could be wrong. ;) Apple is certainly up for surprises any chance it can make some.

I think he has a point, considering updates always happen on tuesdays.

If he says November 6, then it's gonna happen on November 6.

Yeah.you just stated the obvious. But it's just a quit uppgrade not the "biggie" like evryone wants in mackbook.. regarding the mackbook pro user "multimedia"(banned:D) predicted it will come/be announced 15 januar mac world 2008 with penryn 2.8.But it sounds unlikely..the penryns are shipped in november..dont think they can build them so fast....i think they upgrade the macbook pro "quitly" to 2.6 in november. And then in macworld they announce new cinema displays to go with the new mac pro coming inn january:p:)..And a couple of months later you see penryns..
just my dime:apple:

edit: ore maybe they announce a ultraportebole mack in jaunary?

If not today, it could always be Oct 30th... not just Nov 6th. I need to hold out hope that this wait won't continue much longer!!

The thing about 30th Oct is a bit strange.
Apple writes in the back-to-school clauses to give the discount "until 30th Oct (including 30th)". So why isn't it 31th as it is the end of the month?

I asked an operator in the Apple chat about this topic and he couldn't answer shortly until which date/time i've to "click buy" in the shop to get the discount still. He figured out it has to be the time the order is paid for - and therefore it must the time the credit-card has been charged.

Another interesting issue is that the product must be purchased in the online store after leopards's release in two hours to get the CD in the package - otherwise i think you have to use the up-to-date program

Went by the Mac store in Soho (NY) this morning around 10AM and the macbooks on display were the old ones (with Leopard installed).

Asked one of the guys working there and he said he didn't think the macbooks would be updated for a few months, since, according to him, they were only just updated 2 months ago.

Yeah i misread multimedia..he talked about mackbook
the 17 " mackbook pro where on my mind.i dident compare them just mentioned it has great graphics. It's way to heavy but it has sli-dual and a own physics integrated. But go figure it's way to heavy and gamy design compare to the sleek macbook pro..
I now that the mackbook wont have that then i rather bought the dell..
just that the graphics on the pro needs to be updated..
So you can compare a "little"
Hmm..the dell's XPSM1530 have i not heard about..here comes the competion apple..
Why did multimedia get banned?
He's just giving us valuable info:cool:...

Whether the XPSM1530 will be competition remains to be seen.

The specs that have been reported for it don't completely make sense, so until we hear officially from Dell, it's hard to say.

On one hand, the fact that it only has an 8600M GS makes its graphics much less powerful than the MBP, and even less powerful than Dell's Inspiron 1520 (which features an 8600M GT, although with DDR2 RAM instead of DDR3 like the MBP).

On the other hand, the reporting of the XPSM1530 said it would be only 4 pounds, which would be pretty remarkable for a 15" machine. It would possibly explain why the GPU will only be an 8600M GS.

I think we'll have to wait and see. If nothing else though, it finally gives Dell a 15" machine that isn't a 6.5-7 pound heavyweight like the Inspirons and Vostros are.

Waited outside a mac store to see fedex guys fedex guys deliver products

Sorry to say, there is no macbook update. The shipment just wasn't big enough to be new notebooks. It just looked like a bunch of smaller shipments full of OSX 10.5 Im assuming. I waited outside the Apple store in Marlton New Jersey.

This is simply untrue. Macbooks were last updated on the 15th of May 2007. That's 5 and a half months ago. I'd say it's about time to update it again. That the new MacBooks weren't there is indeed very possible since if Apple launches em today (I'm having more and more doubts as we get closer to 6p.m. tbh), they would be putting them in stores tomorrow and put em in the online store today.

But it's more likely they will be announced somewhere next week or on november 6th.

Yeah, I know.. I included that to provide some color on the guy's credibility as a source.

Yeah, why end the back 2 school on oct 30 and not the 31st? Could it be that they are going to release the new macbooks on that date? I guess time will tell.

By the by, here in the states it ended Sept 16th... did Apple happen to release anything new after or on that date?

If you really want to keep posting with Multimedia I suggest to find him here.

I don't know much about his history of being AIM but he isn't that often.

yeah i would think apple would have made it known that the updated macbooks were coming out by 10 am.

I don't have the time to read 650 or so posts, so forgive me if this has been discussed already. How much and how great of an update do people think this would be if it were to happen soon? My current computer crashed (PC) three days ago and I was planning on buying a new Macbook this weekend, and I would like to have the most up-to-date product. But if this is going to be a somewhat smaller update, then would not mind having them update it the week after I get one.

Well it's most likely getting a new processor (Santa Rosa), a new screen (LED screen like the MBP) and a new video chipset (Intel GMA X3100). It's not a small update imo.

Current rumor status is that it will be an upgrade to the Santa Rosa chipset which will mean faster FSB and the ability to support 4GB of ram along with a new graphics chip GMA X3100.

From what everyone says this is worth waiting for. I'd be surprised if it comes out later than Nov 6th. If you can wait, wait. If you need a computer immediately... well there's nothing you can do.
