Ok let's hope for end of this month or early october only to be disappointed again when new macbook's are introduced but no new MBP's. Maybe we'll have to wait until MWSF09 for them.

I too have been waiting ages for a new Macbook. I'm currently using a crappy IQON laptop with a celeron 1.5GHz CPU and a keyboard that misses countless keystrokes. I won't buy the current Macbook because I don't like the sharp edges and the white plastic (and won't pay the extra for the Blackbook). Update the blinking computers Apple!!!

oh mannnn

ive been waiting since first year, meaning last September... i liked the new update in Feb. but i decided to wait cuz first year wasnt so intense in cad and i didnt need a laptop...

currently i have a 1.5 ghz 512mb HP laptop. the battery is dead so if its not plugged in it shuts off (basically its a desktop) aha
i am sooo ready to take the plunge and get one ASAP but i will wait, i dunno if i can wait till january or feb again, but i can sure as wait till the end of October

anyone else waiting this long? how are you co-oping?

Was kinda hoping for some new iPhone features too, but looks like 2.1 is just a bug fix with genius.

Kinda wishing they put in copy/paste, or turn by turn navigation.

So is everyone mainly waiting on just a case redesign or a processor upgrade as well? I wouldn't think anything more than the 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo or 2.8GHz Extreme for the processor bump but I wonder if Apple will stay with 2GB of RAM standard or move to 3GB.

I'm waiting for the redesign.

RAM is so cheap 4GB should be the minimum for that price range. I hope they're going to use the new medium-voltage P CPUs instead of the standard T series.

Come on apple...I've have seriously come super close to purchasing the Sony Z series and Lenovo T400, but every-time I stop myself when i think of not being able to use OSX. Don't get me wrong, Vista is a nice system, but I will get the best of both worlds with a Mac.

Ok guys, this has gone far enough.

no new macs coming out tomorrow. they will be here at the end of september. i guarantee you...

trust me if you want, im just giving you the word of truth.

i know because i know, dont say "zomg how d oyou knoww??!?!?!?111one"

when tomorrow comes, and there are no macbooks, and the end of september rolls around, and there are macbooks, im going to make this thread come back alive and laugh at everyone who doubted me.

Hi, If this does not happen by the end of September I will quote this again and kill this kitten;

...Now lets just see, what's it gunna be :apple:? You gunna let this kitten TAKE IT IN THE ASS AND DIE??

You have until September 30th. Thank you.

It's neat.

I really don't want to wait until MWSF. I'm hoping between now and November 1st we'll hear something.

I can't stand it, brutal. Would not buy that.

A poster on this board did up a really nice looking aluminum one (couldn't find it in a search)....basically the same as it is now only rounded and tapered slightly. If it stayed the same or looked like this one I'd buy for sure.

Processor bump, so I can buy the current model at a discounted price.

May have been posted already, but does anyone else think this mock-up looks pretty nice?

Looks good, but I'm not a fan of glossy/shiny plastics, as in around the screen area, on notebooks. Those areas just get to greassy looking and dirty, and scratch/scuff way to easily and quickly. Very HP looking. The overall satin finish on the current MBP is great on all levels.

I'm sure there will be much controversy with the redesign, we'll just have to wait and see.... in the mean time, buy one now, 'cause people were saying to wait it out several months ago when I bought mine. The way things are going, I will have owned it for a good 6 to 8 months if not more before the upgrade. Waiting has been a lot easier with a nice new MBP keeping me company.

so are we looking at Quadcore MacBooks and Pros?
In Q1 2009, Intel plans to release a Q9000 2.0 GHz quad-core for $348. Like always, no word on TDP yet.

Between it and the $851 2.27 GHz quad-core, that's a way to have a Q1 2009 "speed bump" with all quad-cores in base models.

QX9300 - 2.53 GHz - $1038 - 45 W
Q9100 - 2.27 GHz - $851 - 35 W
Q9000 - 2.00 GHz - $348 - ? W

Price and GHz differences seem to be out of place. Intriguing.

Intel doesn't seem to have many options in the $300-800 when it comes to consumer processors. You might find a Xeon or two in there but after $300 you'll see a big leap for the other processors.

An 8800 ? You can't be serious. You want to pay a premium for a 2 year old video card that melts glaciers ? Ack !

You know what ? I don't want style. I don't give a biscuit about an event. Just update the bloody computers apple. Send out a press release and just do it.

I sad AT LEAST, ofcourse I'm hoping for a much better upgrade, but I promised myself I'll by the MBP right after the next upgrade, even when it's a little one, but ofcourse I'd like to see them build a GTX280 notebook model.

And if you ask me Apple should switch back to ATI... On my desktop pc's I'm on nVidia for 8 years now (at this moment I'm running a 7950GT 512, but I'm gonna build in a GTX280 soon.) nVidia is fine, but at this moment AMD is doing some amazing stuff with ATI!

I'm going to make a prediction based on just one or two small details I've picked up on. I believe that we will either see:

  • A "quiet" update after the back to school promo has ended. This would most likely be small changes, such as a swapped out gpu, slightly faster processor etc. This would potentially tide us over til the new year. It could be a larger product transition a la the new cases, but isn't as likely if it's to be a quiet update.
  • Nothing til early October, looking at around 7th-14th. Explanation below.

The reason I think this is simple.. (besides the other people suggesting this time frame of course. As well as the whole stock information)
The keynote speech on Apple's website (http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/0809dt4bs89/event/index.html) is just titled "Apple September 2008 Special Event". Now correct me if im wrong, they usually put a date in there, such as "Sept 19th Event" etc. That just indicates to me that there will be no other Apple Event this month. This would also allow enough time for the updates to hit the market, and for the advertising campaign/word of mouth etc to fully kick in.

I know it's all based on me being a bit picky, but wording is everything.

Just wish there was some new information so that the wait can be justified!
