New MacBook Pro displays

He guys,

What about the displays of the new macbook pro.
I want to buy a new macbook pro as soon as it arrives, but I don't really know yet which size. I like the hi-res 17" MBP, 'cause it simply gives me the space I need, 1680*1050 is also a nice resolution, but in order to get that, I also have to buy the 17", so i'd rather take the hi-res.

Are there hints or possibilities that the 15" MBP displays get a higher resolution. If the 15" would get the 1680*1050 resolution that would be awesome, 'cause then I simply could buy the 15" and that would make dragging it around much much easier :)

Any rumors 'bout that yet?

This is rediculous, we are only 3 weeks away from a supposed event, and no solid intel about the new macbooks, which makes me worried it might not happen.
We may not have an event on October 14.

It is unusually quiet... perhaps no new MBP this year... I am surprised Apple manages to keep everything so secret. If there is indeed new MBP's coming soon, there should be more leaks...
Yeah, things are pretty quiet. But reports of a September 23 release, as well as 9 to 5 mac (Seth Weintraub)'s lists of predictions, help things out. I think we will see some detailed rumors about the new MacBook Pros in the next two days, assuming a September 23 release. I expect these last-minute rumors for both a redesign and a speed bump.

9 to 5 mac (Seth Weintraub) is claiming that the new MacBook Pros are going 16:9. The 16:9 resolution above the current 15" 16:10 1440·900 is 16" 1600·900, midway between 1440·900 and 1680·1050.

Sept. 23?? Is this MB or MBP? or both?

This is the first I'm hearing of a Sept. 23 release. Where'd this come from?

A few resellers are out of stock and are unable to order more or so they say; so some folks are guessing a speed bump is coming (no event announced). Our supplier has limited supply in MN but has not indicated he's out. He still says wait if we can. I just think he's guessing too.

Cheers,

my apple reseller suggested to come back in October for a new MacBook pro. He wasn't planning on getting a new shipment til then. Might mean nothing though.

Hopefully a new one REALLY comes out. Some people have been waiting forever! My powerbook has become and internet/im machine!

Applecare..?

So, when I do get that new Macbook Pro (soon I hope), what about AppleCare... what's the general thinking whether its worth it to buy AppleCare or not? It's pricey, not sure I should be getting it, but is it worth it? Has anyone bought it or not bought it and wish they had?

I've never purchased AppleCare before but when I order myself a MacBook Pro when they are finally released I intend to purchase AppleCare, for a pricey machine like a MacBook Pro I want to be covered!

Engadget says MacBook Pros on September 23.

I doubt that the 23rd (tomorrow) is realistic. We would have seen some concrete signs I presume.
Yeah. But we still have a few more hours to go for last-minute signs (which are generally very accurate). :D

I'm putting all my money on Seth Weintraub's predictions.
Count me in the "Seth Weintraub predictions" group too.

There are probably lots of threads discussing this if you search. My wife and I have had many Apple noteboks over the past ten years, and we've never purchased AppleCare. So far, the only failure we've had that I couldn't fix was a fan that died in a MacBook Pro -- so I guess I'm way ahead in terms of cost. If you're not comfortable messing with the hardware, then I'd recommend getting AppleCare -- especially it your computer might get rough treadment (children, exposure to bad weather, drunken party guests, etc.).

There's no way Apple would introduce new Macbooks and Macbook Pros the same day the first Android comes out.

Thursday.
why not? Android isnt a threat to apples computers in any way. Plus, although there is some, there really isnt that much enthusiasm for android.
