September 9th

Why exactly do you all think Steve won't be introducing newer macbook (pro) models on the 9th? I know it's announced to be an iPod event, but wouldn't it be typical for apple to introduce new macbooks when nobody is expecting it?
And all those iPod leaks could be on purpose to take peoples minds of an macbook update! (Not a crazy thought considering most company leaks are always a part of the business plan).

Happy to hear your thoughts about my 'speculation'! :D

By typical for apple I meant:
Apple always tries to announce there new products as close to their purchasing date as possible. In that way the can still sell there old models, AND when they announce it and it's in store the next day, it's still a 'hype' to buy the new model immediately, there's no time for critics to criticize it which can result in lower selling numbers... Am I right or am I right ;)?

I know the hairdresser of a pilot who went to school with a mechanic who plays chess with the guy whose uncle fixes Steve Jobs' car from time to time, and his mother-in-law was heard talking to one of the Jehova Witnesses at her house about heavenly gifts to come on the 9th - and I believe her!

Omg - Really hope so!

Nice with som insider information!

Bloody finally. I've been awake for six days now, waiting for a sign on when the new MB(P)s would be launched... Now, I know. Thank you, friendly Kiwi phophet!

Because if Apple is going to make a major update (new platform or new form factor), they are going to want to build the hype up for it.

The last iPod Nano was revealed long before the formal release at "The Beat Goes On" event, thanks to 9to5 Mac. And yet, Steve didn't show off any new Macs then, either.

It's more likely a visit from a lip stick pit-bull than an Apple announcement.

"A few days" in the now nearly 2-year life of a Macbook could very well be 10, 20, 30... Probably the hyper-excitement of some readers got the better of them. I am sure the iPod announcement will be wonderful and then we can all take a deep breath and get ready for the laptop revealing.

Ok, if that's your interpretation of a few days. Personally I would just have written "soon". ;)

Agreed 100%, its misleading based on what he followed up w/ here on this forum.

I don't think it was intentional though. Normally I'd be sceptical & think it was because since he's out of stock he's just encouraging people to wait until the new line comes in for him...however he does say to look for deals at other dealers so I believe he's being honest.

The way its currently written, 'a few days' does give the definite impression that store expects the update on the 9th.

Fair comment , it does appear( to me at least) that Apple 'leaks' & 'insider info' always seem to appear slightly before launch , thus building hype, but who can blame them ,not me , Apple is a business and those guys are rather good at selling electronics . ~as a side note ,I'd love to work in their marketing dept.

....the MBP has recently been updated every 8 months....since the last revision was in Feb, if they stay true to recent patterns, the next update to the MBP will be...

OCTOBER

Also note, the last time there was an update both the MB & MBP were updated....however almost every time before that they were updated ONE month apart....sometimes the MB first, othertimes the MBP. Found that interesting.

Look for the MB to be updated in Sept is my historical guess and the MBP to follow one month later.

So the Macbooks would have a better CPU+other stuff than the MBP? I don't really see that happening...

For whatever it's worth, I just had a chat with our Hynix rep in Korea regarding a large RAM order and he asked whether I wanted "4Gb sticks for the new Macbook Pro" but then clammed up right away when I asked for details. Could just be an error or enthusiasm on his part, but could also mean that the RAM capacity will jump quite a bit.

Very funny, I'll come to you for advice on this week's lotto numbers... How to get from "a few days" to the "9th" is a mystery to me, but then again, the name of the site is ...rumors... so anything goes.

My money is on a large hooraaah event for the iPod early (given that the unit sales quantities of iPods dwarf any laptop sales annually) and then a quieter MB upgrade later in the month. Keep in mind that Apple advised analysts in the last shareholder briefing in early August that there would be a significant expense for re-tooling costs incurred in September, which everyone seems to relate to new housings and manufacturing set-ups for laptops...

Hmmmm...thats pretty good news! Looking forward to Tuesday! Question: I plan on getting 4GB of RAM for my new MBP because I use After Effects and Final Cut Pro...do you think even more RAM would be better? Or is that just overkill?

I just hope they redesign them this time around. Recent rumor and speculation is starting to think otherwise...
What recent rumors? All I've heard are either redesign rumors or rumors that don't say anything for or against one.

Wow that might indeed mean 8gb Ram option in the new MacBook Pro's.

Someone tell me what to think. There has been a bit of an onslaught of "leaks" from retailers and what not lately but none of it has apparently been deemed page 1, or even page 2 worthy.

Still looking at the 9th as definitely iPod only?

What would you need 8gb of RAM for? I'm not being mean, I really want to know because I am planning on getting 4gb for mine for AE, FCP, and the other programs in Pro Studio 2. Would 8gb show a much bigger improvement over 4?

Well there are some people who really like more than 4gb of ram when it comes to 3d 64bit for example.

I would be surprised if they updated the iPod line and MacBook line in one event. However, laptops still need a refresh.
