I don't think that this has been asked yet... but everyone is assuming that the poster toshcomputers is actually associated with ToshComputers.com. Remember people, we're on the interwebs, where nothing is as it seems.

Do legitimate businesses typically post on rumor pages?

No offense to the user toshcomputers if he/she is real, but someone has to play skeptic.

Well, all I can say is that now "a few days" has been changed to "very shortly" on their website. Very shortly still means "a few days" to me though. :D

Don't mean to add fuel to the fire, but I am in the market as well. I was surfing over at Smalldog, and they have a promotion for the 15" MBP that ends in ... you guessed it, two days.

Smalldog's 15" MBP specials

Just to be fair and rumor impartial, some of the 17" MBP specials end in 22 days. One of them ends in two days.

Yup, it's the real thing... My mother tells me I am illegitimate - but she is the only one. All others do a little googling and find our business quite legitimate, and that's why we have double-digit sales groth every year and are now in 6 countries. Wait until I get the private jet, will be "Tosh Air" on the tail.

Penryn CPUs are to be speedbumped 133 MHz in Q1 2009, so a small update around Macworld is possible.

Macworld generally isn't for updated Macs. It's for new or highly revamped Macs.

Maybe the new notebooks will have a 500 GB HD option?

500GB notebooks would make the Desktops obsolete, No?

We have upgraded Macbook and Macbook Pro units to 500Gig drives for about 6 months now, and people still like the larger displays for desktops. But with a Macbook Pro 17" driving a 30" cinema display, who needs a desktop?

Excuse me if I was unclear, but I was not questioning the legitimacy of ToshComputers the reseller, or ToshComputers.com. I was questioning whether the user on MacRumors who identifies himself as "toshcomputers" is in fact associated with the actual business.

Your cheeky reply failed to address that matter.

(Blunt translation: I am not sure if the poster "toshcomputers" is a troll, but none of us have any evidence to the contrary.)

I hope they come out before the end of the month, want is going to become need fairly soon!

What would you need 8gb of RAM for? I'm not being mean, I really want to know because I am planning on getting 4gb for mine for AE, FCP, and the other programs in Pro Studio 2. Would 8gb show a much bigger improvement over 4?

hopefully apple is finally trying to future proof its products with great specs and better intilization of those specs (snow leopard).

i can dream!

Will more RAM be helpful?

I have long marveled at the retired school teacher who gets a 4Gb RAM extension for the 2.0Ghz Macbook, just to make sure he can hear all of his music loud enough...

I think most users over-spec a unit, for ego, lack of knowledge and insecurity reasons. BUT, for the pro users (large Photoshop files with multiple layers, operating Windows in parallel, streaming video work, online gaming designs, TV and radio production, etc.) every bit of RAM usually helps to avoid involving the hard drive - and that speeds things up, reduces drive wear and extends battery life. Is it worth it? Probably not for some, certainly not at the official retail prices for RAM, but with some clever purchasing and some patience, a few hundred dollars of RAM upgrade might create a seriously powerful unit.

well personally, i spec up to future proof, because im the consumer that holds on to their product until you actually have to upgrade because your specs are too low for the "norm" of the times.

Couldnt agree with you more. I see people with Pro's that just dont need 'em. I think I might get more than 4gb of RAM, thanks to what you said. After Effects, Final Cut Pro, and Pro Studio 2 are all pretty intensive programs and I think the extra RAM will help me out.

Tons of people buy things simply because they like how they look, or they want the most expensive thing to show off. I see a ton of people at school that use their 17" MBPs for nothing other than surfing the web.

I think I've seen maybe 1 or 2 17" MBPs in my four years of undergrad and 2 years of med school. MBs are much more common and some 15" MBPs. Even though many med students go nuts with their loans/spend parents cash it's a rare occurrence. Define "ton".

I read Brien's post as people actually at school* rather than University; Medicial students probably have more brains than school students! :)

We have a client that just surfs the web and edits Word documents on a MBP; what a waste!

*I have never understood the americanism of describing University as 'school', it's very ambiguous

Just received a mail from our hardware dealer at my institute concerning the new macbooks / macbook pros:

"The ETH will open its Neptun Shop at midnight tonight. Unfortunately, the new Apple models that should be coming out within the next month will NOT be offered. Therefore I would urge anyone interested in an Apple notebook to wait until the next Neptun window in the spring.

If you are buying a laptop now, you are essentially buying a dated model at a premium price. Apple never lowers its prices during a product’s lifecycle and therefore you will essentially pay the same for a laptop as what it originally cost in February."

But this is not necessarily referring to the 9th is it?

"within the next month" = this month, or October?

I am really wondering if there will be new MBP tomorrow, i really hope so. But aren't the chances slim? Because its an ipod event, but how can you fill up a whole event with some ipod changes, and they called it a big deal, well ipod changes aren't, right?

I hope there will be new macbooks and macbook pro's tomorrow!!

But I'm afraid that if they release a new product together with the ipods, that the macbooks and macbook pro's will have to wait for at least another month to keep the new gadget in the spotlights and don't steel any media attention. :(

What I'm hoping for is that apple will rock big time: a.k.a. update everything in the "Buyers Guide" that says "Don't buy, updates soon". And that it will be updates worthy of waiting for.
(And of course that there are no big software or hardware bugs!)

So my fears and hopes.. What are yours?

I am sure they are exaggerating a bit, companies like to do that.

I guess the chances are indeed slim for new notebooks. But Apple told resellers to stock up on iPods and notebooks back at July 30th, to last through August. But now it's September, and there are already resellers out of stock on notebooks... so, it's a bit bad business there.

It would indeed be cool if they updated "everything". I don't see how it would be so bad for them, business wise. It would be worthy the "big deal" they are talking about...

tbh, the more I think about it, the more sensible it seems to at least announce new Macs on the 9th. Journos are not particularly gonna want to turn up to another Apple event just a few weeks later, and people are saying that these MB and MBP revision will require an event.

Plus, Apple was seriously burnt at their last little iPod do, the one with the hi fi and whatnot, nobody wants another underwhelmaton, least of all Jobs.
