I really hope they will finally start ofering standalone Magic Keyboard with black keys, but without the numpad. I have been waiting for it for years.

Thats it! They will be spending an hour and a half talking about the revolutionary mouse they’ve made because the port is no on the front of it, so it has the a amazing feature of being able to be used whilst charging. And they will claim they’ve patented the out of it!

Now obviously that’s all a load of daft twaddle, but it’s no where near as daft as Apple designing a mouse with unremovable built in rechargeable batteries that’s rendered unusable whilst charging it…

The invite showed the Mac Finder logo, we know it's about Macs and iMac is all but certain, and 0% chance of releasing a new iMac without updated usb-c accessories so don't think we needed a report for that.

ALRIGHT EVERYONE PLACE YOUR BETS! Are they gonna

  • Finally move charging port off of the bottom
  • Keep the charging port on the bottom
Vote now on your phones!
i would votes on teh iphones, but that is being updated nows!

i think they put the port under the right click button/area, so A!

The port placement is silly on this mouse, but to be real for a minute, you only have to charge it like once every few months. It also gives you tons of warnings beforehand so it's very easy to just charge it in any downtime. Corny, but honestly more annoying in theory than in practice.

Now the real issue with the Magic Mouse is just that it's an awful mouse to use. It's heavy, it doesn't really track particularly well, and it's hard to hold onto. Even the touch gestures it is supposedly built around aren't that great. No pinch/zoom, for instance. Honestly the ONLY thing the MM does well is enable very smooth scrolling.

But, Apple has a long and storied history of shipping terrible mice.

Always fun to have to look down to see if your mouse is oriented correctly.

Came out in an era when every PC mouse had a scroll wheel and right-click -- but this bravely had neither!

Remember this bad boy? Every few weeks that g-d little rubber pea would get gummed up and stop working. You could fish it out with a pin, wipe it down, and jam it back in again. Very fun!
Apples mouse designs have been hilariously crap over the years. complete form over function.

I really hope they remake this mouse. Just have it plug in on the front so it just becomes a wired mouse that you can change and use AT THE SAME TIME. Also update the connectors on the bottom. Maybe it’s a personal problem but the mouse gets dirty quickly with fur , dust and dander.

Charging for a couple of minutes will give you hours of use, not being able to take a few min break and charge your mouse is just bad time management. Let the charging port be where it is and add wireless charging if you wanna do something new.
The port location is bad design, period.

Being able to stop for five minutes has nothing to do with it.

I’m honestly expecting both a new Magic Keyboard and a new Magic Trackpad, but not only for the USB-C but mostly because a higher, better Bluetooth version. Maybe we’re lucky and get Bluetooth 5.0 or 5.3 for all the new peripherals.
This is the real reason it should be updated. It's a travesty that the Magic Mouse is still using Bluetooth 4.2 in 2023.

The iPad will even warn you about it if you pair it with the Magic Mouse.

This is literally the worst mouse in the world. It's shocking Apple continues to ship it.

The ergonomics are literally the worst. It's too flat and small for most hands. The charging on it is just stupid. And the total lack of tactile buttons just make it weird to use.

I offered it to my wife. She rejected it. My sister. She rejected it. So it's in a box somewhere....it'll most likely reappear one day and we'll see what stupid product design looks like.

If you need a mouse, I high recommend any Logitech MX series device. They are brilliant.
Please ship it to me then 😉 I love mine. But I hate it when it needs recharging and that it doesn’t even has a “I’m being charged” indicator.

Could they use sensors in the mouse which could use the heat of your hand to charge it? (If physically possible) So no charging port required.

So, if I'm in the middle of a project and my mouse dies, I have bad time management because I didn't extrapolate out how long my mouse would last? lol

The charging port position outrage is so crazy to me. If the battery is out on mine I just plug it in and by the time I make myself a coffee it's ready to go for another week or two. It also will last at least the full 8 hour work day after you get a notification to charge it so there's no way you can't plug it in for a bit.

I said it another thread last week and I'll say it again...move the port to the front of the mouse so we can charge it while using it, OR have it be a Qi charging capable body with a charging mouse pad that's wired to the computer when you need to charge the mouse. I could see other companies like Journey creating a desk mat that's able to charge it wirelessly while using it.

Stop! You'll earn no forum cred by being reasonable and not taking this golden opportunity to express outrage.

Then maybe pay attention to the week’s worth of low power warnings you clearly get before it actually dies? Take note it’s low, plug it in at the end of the day.

It’s been like a decade of these complaints, I hope none of you have pets.
My problem with the charging is that:
1) I forget to turn it off
2) I might not use the iMac (and mouse) for weeks sometimes
3) when I then have to start the iMac just to quickly check something and it’s totally dead it’s really a PITA

But I know that that’s just me holding it wrong

Agree. I tried the MM and loved the functionality of it but the flat profile caused discomfort in very short time for me. Probably the worst mouse I've ever used from an ergonomic standpoint.
Do you love your pearly baker vest more than your wine?
