Yes, the fact you ignored a week’s worth of low battery warnings is entirely on you.
You assume in every case people are using the computer daily. These mice actually die faster then the magic mouse that you could change the battery just being away a few weeks you can miss the warning and find you self with a computer you cant use especially when you are in a pinch. No one wants to have to plan if they should or should not plug in a mouse every time they walk away from a computer. All i can say in almost every encounter I have with others this is the #1 and only complaint about the mouse is that you cant use it while charging it. Seems to me its a simple solution for Apple to address.... But will they...Doubt it they have been more about the bottom line in recent years then actual usability.

Ever since I could remember Apple has never actually made a good mouse, other than maybe one. I remember my first Apple mouse was the Pro Mouse that came with the PowerMac G4. It was cool looking, but Ctrl+click was wild and I guess how a lot of Mac users used mice back in the day? Plus the cord was crazy short and could really only be used if you plugged it into the USB on the keyboard.

All of their mice since the return have Jobs have looked nice, but really honestly for me the only one that was most function to me was the mouse that had the scroll ball in the middle which I never had a problem with but I would always read a lot of people did and complained about it. All of their keyboards are…ok they are useable but the cost of either of these accessories simply were never worth it. I can get a Keychron K10 and a MX Master 3 and spend just as much if not less, and both are far more functional, and custom tailored to not just Mac but iPad as well.

Funny you should say that. Same here.

My wife prefers a mouse, so that one is there for her. When the batteries get low, the notification comes up and it takes about 30 seconds to replace the discharged batteries with freshly charged ones. The ones that came out go into the charger. Hardly a big deal.

I like the trackpad myself. It works great. Same batteries and charger.

Yesterday we spent about an hour at the local Apple Store while my wife was trading in her iPhone for a new one. So, I got to try every product in the place. Six times over. The newer trackpad is ok, but I prefer the larger "travel" of the older design. So, I'm glad we have a couple of the older designs fresh in a box somewhere.
Very similar experience...

I still use my replacable battery Magic Mouse - it is actually the best mouse I have ever used. My only complaint with it is something every single mouse also presents as a use issue for me (some worse than others).

I switch hands frequently - like 10 times an hour + frequently. I can't use anything that is designed for only left or right hand. I wish I could pair two MM, but have each one set up specifically for the hand I use it with. As it is, I leave the MM set for one hand (I change the settings every so often when I switch my mouse hand), but for the rest of the time, I have two Magic Trackpads, one for each hand, as well as a pen tablet.

My trackpads are also the older removable battery variety - in that famous Apple-talk 'they just work', as does the MM (hand swapping aside).

Plug it in when you’re done using if it’s few and far between.

People act like this is difficult, it’s not at all.

Or…buy a mouse you actually like?

I think when it comes to Gurman articles, Macrumors needs to step up and actually explain what the sources are.

Just because a guy is stating the obvious about what he ‘expects’ doesn’t make it a leak or tangible evidence, and certainly isn’t article worthy.

So true. Fearing this I went with the Trackpad instead. Even that will often die out with little to no warning because I leave my computer on 24/7. At least with that I just plug it in and can use it while it charges.

The port placement is silly on this mouse, but to be real for a minute, you only have to charge it like once every few months. It also gives you tons of warnings beforehand so it's very easy to just charge it in any downtime. Corny, but honestly more annoying in theory than in practice.

Now the real issue with the Magic Mouse is just that it's an awful mouse to use. It's heavy, it doesn't really track particularly well, and it's hard to hold onto. Even the touch gestures it is supposedly built around aren't that great. No pinch/zoom, for instance. Honestly the ONLY thing the MM does well is enable very smooth scrolling.

But, Apple has a long and storied history of shipping terrible mice.

Always fun to have to look down to see if your mouse is oriented correctly.

Came out in an era when every PC mouse had a scroll wheel and right-click -- but this bravely had neither!

Remember this bad boy? Every few weeks that g-d little rubber pea would get gummed up and stop working. You could fish it out with a pin, wipe it down, and jam it back in again. Very fun!
This is why I wonder did Kensington, Logitech and Microsoft miss a major opportunity to produce truly quality dedicated ergonomic keyboards and mice for the iMac, Mac mini and Mac studio models. The Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Keyboard and Mouse in a version designed specifically for Mac desktops would actually sell quite well.

Sold my AA-battery Magic Mouse, because it‘s not ergonomic and bad for (any) gaming. It was okay, because i could replace batteries anytime with fresh loaded eneloops and continue work.
The current version with the charging cable on the bottom of the device is a complete fail.

Hoping for a complete redesign.

That’s what annoys me most about the Magic Mouse. It was designed to have AA batteries and when they decided to update it to a rechargeable solid state battery they just swapped out the battery holder and added a port. It’s just lazy and had they design a mouse with a port in mind clearly wouldn’t have ended up with the solution they have.

Hopefully we finally see this rectified with a new design for this mouse.

I get that the placement of the charging port is a big joke, but in day to day life I just don’t see the problem. You only gotta charge it once every few months. Just plug it in when you’re not using it and charge it. Are people wishing they could use it as a wired mouse? Is that it? Meh. Big meh

This is literally the worst mouse in the world. It's shocking Apple continues to ship it.

The ergonomics are literally the worst. It's too flat and small for most hands. The charging on it is just stupid. And the total lack of tactile buttons just make it weird to use.

I offered it to my wife. She rejected it. My sister. She rejected it. So it's in a box somewhere....it'll most likely reappear one day and we'll see what stupid product design looks like.
I had a similar experience, except instead of throwing mine in a drawer after everyone else rejected it. I sold it on eBay. It was exceedingly easy to resell the MM and get you can get good money for it. There is high demand for it on the resell market for some unknown reason.

Fine...even though it's like having to open your car hood to put gas in your tank, leave it there. But, just add wireless charging so you can set it on a charging pad. Even better, make the iMac's 'foot' a charging pad...

Welcome the world to iMac a few years later... Same hot garbage mouse design.
"Mice" are so... twentieth century.

These computers should move past pointing devices.

The AVP is showing the way: gestures. Combine that with voice control and eye tracking and the entire mice-kind can go away.

And for those few who demand it: make the screens touch-screen.

But then what would people have to complain about? Come on man, you're ruining the fun!

My own Magic Mouse sits in my desk as a backup in case my lovely Logitech G305 dies. It runs on a rechargable AA I can swap out in 30 seconds once every 6 months.

And in the event that I did like and use the MM, I would just plug it in overnight the first time I got one of the many many popups that give you ample warning as the battery gets lower. (But, again, I guess it's more fun to whinge endlessly about the location of the charge port and make up weird scenarios where it ruins your life ).

I really hope they will finally start ofering standalone Magic Keyboard with black keys, but without the numpad. I have been waiting for it for years.

You're talking about a "tenkeyless" design. Unless I'm wrong, I don't think Apple has ever made one in all these years. It's either compact or full sized. There are loads and loads of mechanical keyboards done this way if you really that layout, though!
