Woo Hoo!

I ordered mine on Jan 7th, order status just changed to "Prepared for Shipment", no shipment email from Apple yet and my credit card has the pre-auth but no charge yet. (I am in the southeastern U.S.)

I am so ready to get this baby in. It's my first Mac.

Hopefully everyone will get theirs shipped this week!

(My NEW specs are listed in my signature)

Upgrades and SSD's

Seems the new 17" Manuals are up on Apple's support site now to, posted today :D

It even shows you how to replace the Memory and Hard disk... so I guess its ok :)

I just read the owners manual. I was a bit surprised. I thought that with the UniBody, swapping drives and memory would involve opening these machines up from the top. So much the better that everything is easily accessible fro the bottom.

I am still debating on ordering 8GB of Ram. Much of my decision will be based on the brand of SSD drive mine comes with. If it is not the Samsung, I'll buy one of those, and defer the RAM purchase, and swap the MBP Apple SSD into my Mac Mini.

The release dates of the Apple 17" MBP and the Samsung 256GB SSD coincide. These SSD's are not being listed for sale on eBay with early March delivery dates. I take this as a good sign.

They said the same thing about iPods

Also interesting:

"The battery in your MacBook Pro is not user-replaceable. If you think your battery needs to be replaced, contact an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider."

They said the same thing about iPod's. I've replaced many iPod batteries, and I would never send a machine back to Apple, when I could do it myself.

I got nothing...no change with my Jan. 18th order. I didn't even get a sorry email when they were delayed but I did just get an Apple survey email about how happy I was with my Mac today though...

MacMall

I notice that everyone here seems to have ordered directly from Apple. I ordered mine from MacMall to save the state tax and to get a few extra promotions. Consequently, I don't have a status page with Apple for delivery. I placed my order on January 21. The predicted shipping time is around February 19. It will be coming from MacMall, not Apple. I am having IWorks pre-installed, as well as Parallels and Windows XP. I ordered the 2.93 with the 7200 drive, glossy.
Is there any particular reason none of you ordered from MacMall?

I ordered mine through the Apples Develop Connection (ADC) Store. It works out to be about the same price after taxes etc. But I get advance distributions of software instead of the stuff you got.

I ordered from PcConnection. 2.93ghz for $2,999 (-$100 no rebate needed), no shipping, no taxes. People who buy from apple are suckers. $300 in taxes plus $100 extra for retail is not worth getting it a week early. Plus the gave me a free 2 day air upgrade for waiting.

I would tell you what I'm paying, but then you would feel bad.

Let me ask you this. Are you getting a SSD at that price? I didn't think so.

Sigh, whatever. You're a developer. No one is arguing that developers get a better deal. At least I never was. All these ADC people want to pick a fight with me. That's fine, go ahead. I admit, you're better than me. You got a better deal. I was never talking about you, however, I was talking about average consumers. Even regular non-dev students get a better deal from third parties than from Apple. I know because a professor friend wanted to get mine for me.

And, BTW, I know how much the ADC discount is. I looked it up in the store a long time ago. Congrats, ok? Seriously.

California Sales Tax

That's fine that you're spending less than us, but be honest and mention that its a developer discount and that you payed $300 or more to belong to the program and you only get a single discount in a lifetime.

In CA the tax rate is 9% I'm saving $270 on my machine plus the extra $100 PcConnection takes off for no obvious. I'd have gone with MacMall, but they're in CA as well.

California sales tax is 7.25%. Local rates differ. Does Apple charge you for local rates as well--or just the statewide rate?

and void the warranty? well done. Voiding the warranty on an iPod may be ok, however on a $3000 17" Macbook it's not such a good choice.

Latop Sleeve

Keep this going until we get more info. Has anyone ordered anything like a case or palm guard yet? I was about to order a sleeve but the max dimensions they listed on their site was just a tag smaller than the new unibody so I'm holding off. I hate to have a naked macbook for a few weeks but I don't want to buy something that wont work anyway. I want this one.

That looks very cool. I want to get something, and was planning on bringing my MBP with me to test fit.

And can I ask how they would know you changed the battery yourself? There is nothing(nor has there ever been) anything to indicate you did it yourself vs an Apple certified rep(besides a possible receipt they did it).

No one is picking a fight against you personally, except for the fact that in your quote stated here:

You stated that people ordering from Apple are "suckers". You never said average joe citizen or developers. Therefore, by that statement, you referred to All people who bought this system, custom or base, from Apple.

Prepared For Shipment!

I'M SO EXCITED
Although I checked my online banking and the money has been reduced from my account balance, Apple still haven't taken it yet!

Congrat's

Still nothing. The pre-authorization for the amount happened two weeks ago, but nothing has been deducted as of yet. Kill me.

EDIT: MINE NOW SAYS PREPARED TO SHIP!!! (sorry caps) fina-f**ing-lly.

I yelled out loud in the public computer lab if you wanted to know. Owning my first Mac will be great!

If this is your first, you made a nice choice. Good luck with it!

Suckers??? Heck no!

You called all of us that purchased from Apple--"suckers".

It was a rude thing to say. There are other reasons to purchase direct from Apple.

For Example: I've purchased refurbished products from Apple.

Others may not care if they pay more, if they receive the product sooner--that is their personal choice, and may very well be worth the extra price if they are preparing for a trip and need the machine for some work they are doing.

Still others may like the fact they can return their products without hassle--compare that to what some etailers offer --headaches and high return fees--even for upopened boxes.

I also like buying direct from Apple. I get great customer support from them. I buy lots of their stuff--refurbished is my preference. I can get good deals from the military--but ordering is a PITA, and what is in stock is usually standard configs that are out of date.

The bottom line is you get what you pay for. none of us want to hear you call us suckers--none of us are--suckers don't buy the coolest laptop on the planet.

My status has gone to "Prepared for Shipment" as well. :)

Isn't this exciting?

(Ordered a 2.93 with a MiniDP/VGA : 15th Jan

Estimated shipped: 12th Feb
Estimated delivered: 23rd Feb

Prepared for Shipment: 16th Feb)

It appears that many who have ordered from Jan 6 to ~Jan 15-20th are getting their systems prepped for shipping today. This looks like that many of the pre-orders will be shipped by the 19th.

Indeed. They may even hit their delivery estimate of the 23rd in my case. They missed by one day in 2006 with the original MacBook Pro Core Duo.

I ordered the base model on the 11th and mine still says "Not yet shipped". I'm hoping since I ordered through ADC that it doesn't effect my status or shipping date. :(

Does Apple send an email when the status changes or do I have to keep logging in and checking?
