Must be nice. I ordered 11 Jan and my ship date is 10 Feb.

I ordered a few minutes after the announcement on January 6th. My shipment date has moved from a February 9th delivery to the 5th. The ship date has remained at February 4th. It appears that Apple has upgraded shipping on many early orders according to posts I've seen on other Mac related forums. At any rate, you appear to be in good shape ... not too much longer!

I have not been given a delivery date. I paid for the express FedEx delivery, so it should be here is 8-13 days--between Feb 5th and Feb 12th. Based on my experience with Apple, they tend to come in earlier than predicted.

My system:

2.93GHz Processor
4GB RAM
256GB SSD
Glossy Display--I think it looks better than matte.
Also ordered Final Cut Express and Aperture, and Apple Care.

For the price you'd pay for this at an online retailer without tax, I got the same thing direct from Apple Store after purchasing select membership at the Apple Developer Center (ADC).

The plus was I have access to ADC resources, and have access to early versions of software, etc.

I am a bit worried about what sort of SSD I will get. I'm hoping it will have the new Samsung drive. If it is not fast enough I'll move whatever it is into my Mac Mini and buy the Samsung drive later on when it is available on the street.

I noticed DDR3 memory is dropping. $903 at Memory America. It has dropped $200 in the last few weeks for 8GB (2x4GB) Ram. I don't think I'll need the extra Ram with the SSD, so I decided to wait on that. And it is still way cheaper at Memory America than at Apple.

How much of a discount do they give you for the ACD program? Is it more than the student discount? or the EPP for federal employees?

After the ($500) Select Membership, you get a pretty significant undefined % off(~15-25~)

I would say that even better than the hardware discount is the availability and pre-release soft.

I'm pretty sure you can get the 17" MBP for $2,2XX with the $99 version of ADC but you have to be a student to purchase that version.

I read in another thread that some Apple retail stores will be receiving the 17" MBP today (Tuesday). Is there any truth to this?

How did you order it at an Apple Retail Store? Did you go in and pay for it in advance, or did you order it online? From what I understand, you can't order online and pick up in store.

My company ordered it via our Hardware partner that supply us with our working equipment and that company also owns a local Apple Retail store.

WTF, I'm going to be pissed [at Apple] if people who are ordering today get it before me when I ordered weeks ago. My date has not changed as of this morning...still scheduled for the 13th.

I would assume that Apple would fill orders on a FIFO basis... does anyone know for sure though?

It's probably close to FIFO, but there will be regional differences. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple gets machines to California before Saskatchewan, even if the Californians ordered after me.

haha well Im in Wpg and ordered two weeks ago. maybe get it after it thaws :p
I noticed the Apple Canada site still claims 3-4 weeks. is this bunk?

same thing on the canadian store. Just spoke with someone at the apple store, and they were expecting to get some 17" demo models in "any time", so things are looking up. Also called to check on my order, and they said for sure that they will be shipping according to order date, so if we ordered right after the keynote and such, they will be shipping those before the orders that go in today. He mentioned that these have been selling like crazy online, they have been having some trouble keeping up with the orders.

on January 9th,
I ordered the Matte screen, with 2.9ghz, 320g 7200rpm, 4g Ram.

Ships Feb 23
Deliver Feb Feb 27

I'm kinda pissed with my wait time

If you cancelled and re-ordered with the Glossy screen you would probably have it by the 18th of February at the latest.

If the Matte option didn't have that sickly silver bezel that looks completely out of place on the current gen model then I would have gone for the Matte.

All I wanted from Apple was for them to give the option of removing the Glass and putting a Matte finish on the Display. No need to mess around with the bezel and make it look as ugly as sin in the process. There is even a 3rd party company that does this to current 15" and it looks identical to the glossy model (Bezel wise) when completed. I don't see why Apple had to meddle with the design to give a Matte option. Just poor engineering.

I talked to an apple person on their website through the live support, and when i asked if the antiglare display was glass or plastic, they told me it was a glass screen. and assured me that it was NOT plastic. I asked them if it had some kind of coating or something then to remove the glare, and they told me it was proprietary info.

Well, its not plastic, its aluminum, but it sure ain't glass. I can promise you that. It seems Apple Sales is not well informed, as usual.

The glossy display MBPs have a glossy display covered by a piece of glass. The matte display MBPs have a matte display with no glass and an aluminum bezel. Regardless of display type the display is made from glass.

Proprietary info is codeword for "No clue."

I've never had the greatest experience with Apple's support, a bit below Newegg's support staff, but they are at least competent. Must be decent pay?
