New MBP Owners (since 8/13/07), Do You Have The Bottom 3rd Yellowing Issue?

sorry for the delay in posting, but here is the profile I have been using with my samsung matte mbp. (non yellow, I think).

I want to stress the fact that I did not create this myself. I downloaded it from somewhere on macrumors that I can't find again (i lost the link). So to whoever posted this - thanks! sorry I can't give credit where credit is due.

I have uploaded the profile to a gmail account (macrumors doesnt let me)

email = macbookprocolorprofile@gmail.com

password = macrumors

login and the profile is there!

Or you can download it here:

wow ... great screen !!
but that gap is kinda unusual ... If I were you, i would stick to it. what if you give it back and get something with yellowish issue ? with the horrible stories I've read on the internet ...

can you send a picture so we can see both side ? is that so bad in compare to the other side?

I think the 32 in your order number has nothing to do with the build week...You should not worry about this.

That's not correct.

For example, a serial number for your MBP would be something like: W8734123A53, where 34 would be your build week number. If you've got a 32 there, then you have a week 32. Nothing wrong with that really, I picked up a new MBP that just arrived at the Apple store last week and it's a week 34. There are no differences between those two weeks.

Here it is Iced Angel...would you keep or exchange for that kind of gap?

Mine is just like yours !! I've never noticed it, it's uneven ... thanks to Macrumors, now I'm seeing my MBP problems one by one :D

is there any other odd thing about this laptop?? I might have it ... common ...I have the heart please tell me :D

but for "MacGiver" the gap is just too much, however, the screen is more important to me.

Thank all, i went to an Apple resseler and it is true that the one i saw had the same gap...on the left end side as well..it is soothing to know i am not the only one but frustrating to know some are perfect :). I will think about it tonight when i get back from work whether i exchange it or not...i am afraid to do so "just" for this and take the risk to have a new one with the yellow screen...i also need to get used to the UK KB where the enter key and shift left key is so tiny.

Hah! so your macbook pro ISN"T perfect! lol.

Mine actually has no gap...but a little gap really wouldn't bother me. It just makes sense that there's a small gap because of the latch. Unless you can fit anything inside than don't send it back.

they all have gaps if it bothers you there is a fix for it, yes mine is perfect gaps have been known about forever......guess its new to newbies :) LOL

I received mine on Friday, 8/31. Instantly upon booting it (the white then blue boot screens) I had the unfortunate pleasure of seeing what all the talk is about :(. Mine is quite bad, but, I figured I would give it a couple days to see how much I notice it... so after the weekend I have decided I will be unable to live with it. 2.4 15", Glossy Samsung screen, 7200 rpm drive Web Order #: WXX38XXXX. I will be calling shortly, what is the typical procedure, by any chance do they send a replacement before receiving the original return?

No they wont send a replacement before you ship the returned one...i dont beleive it needs to go back to China though. In EU it needs to reach the EU depot which is in the Netherlands. Then your new order is taken into account...i think...
Can you share photos of your 1/3 yellow screen?

you use erasers to level the screen....

Sorry Cybergypsy, i do not get this? What do you mean by using erasers? Did you do so? can you show me? I would need to lower the screen on the side where there is a gap instead of level it on the other side where there is not gap...

...so after around 2 hours of being on hold, transfered around, and returned to initial prompts, I reached someone willing to admit the issue. They offered me two solutions, one, they would like to capture my laptop for engineer testing, in which case I will receive a new laptop. Two, they will overnight it both ways to a repair facility in which they will replace the screen with a non-issue screen. I attempted to get info on the brands, mentioning Samsung as the problematic display and LG as the non-issue screen, but did not get any details. I chose the option that was explained to me to have the shortest turn around time, screen replacement, which is all I'm interested in, the notebook is flawless otherwise IMO. I should receive the shipping box tomorrow...

Received my new MBP today. Well yes right at the blue startup screen it was very clear the bottom was yellow. :(

Already have an appointment with the Genius Bar tomorrow morning to get it looked it. Will update on how that goes.

Didn't have enough time to get which screen or build date before having to come into work tonight.

My 2nd MBP nearly perfect LG panel

I'm from Hong Kong.
My previous "back to school" 15" MBP purchase (week 33) got the yellowing issue from samsung panel (9C68). Returned it and just recieved 2nd MBP today. It is a week 35 MBP with LG panel (9C67). I can easily tell that it is more BRIGHTER and WHITER than the samsung panel.
More important is that "IT IS YELLOWING FREE".
However, a free gift from this MBP is "a" dead pixel.
Well, no body is perfect anyway. :)
I'm considering myself lucky and satisfied. :D
Good luck to you all. :p

Received my MBP 2.4 matte week 35 today, ordered august 20. Samsung screen with yellowing… :(

Sending it back next week.

I think I read this somewhere on the forums, put an eraser in the middle under the lid , then close the lid on it and put heavy books on each side of the lid to weigh it down. Then leave for a few hours and the lid should have straightened out a bit.

(Im not liable for any damage caused...-_-' :apple: )

for the record i have a week 23 SR MBP, LG glossy screen and i would say i have a faint yellowing at the bottom and seemingly it would seem its only the bottom 1/4 and not 1/3. when i say faint, i mean really faint, like physically having to go some lengths to actually see it in any significance

my brother reckons he can see it now that he knows its there, but unless im doing that test wth the squares... me and my mother really cant tell the difference between the top and bottom.

during the test with the black screen, its actually a very subtle change between the 2 squares, the bottom one looking dimmer rather than yellow.

with the grey screen its much the same, but the squares are very distinct in both cases.

would say the main problem really is the viewing angles and the way the gloss coating seems to affect what colour you see, i shot the screen square on with my DSLR and on that you can see like a vignetting effect on the screen yet to the naked eye, this is not apparent. during normal work, the screen looks almost perfect.

if i look square on at the bottom.... white, if i look square on at the top....white. but looking normally the bottom is a littler darker.

guess i got rather lucky!, nearest applestore is in london (im in middlesbrough) and i had to buy this CTO off the HE store. i dont really wanna deal with sending it back especially if the problem hasnt quite gone yet. plus im off back to uni soon so i kninda neeed this thing with me for then. i think if i actually showed a genius my screen he wouldnt be able to tell without doing that test.

i have a similar gap type, though i must say, not quite that large. i solved it by buying a crumpler "the slip" goes between the kb and screen, makes the lid sit even and at the same time protects my screen from the keyboard

theres my test.

on the grey one, please ignore the seemingly blotchy patches of dark... i dunno what that is but only my camera can see it, it doesnt look like that to the naked eye.

also sorry about the focus, the AF couldnt lock on so i had to manually focus, which im not very good at lol.

again the 3rd image, my camera is picking these dim spots which just aren apparent to the eye, so i dunno how useful that shot is

id say i got a good screen there, its a Glossy LG display for reference. im using a colour profile called MBPro19Jun07
