MBP 15.4" 2.2 Glossy 160HD upgrade

Yellowing problem...it's going back. Called AppleCare and they asked me to take it to an Apple store. The genius confirmed there is a problem with the screen. He updated my case # with 'defective screen; requires replacement.' I called AppleCare back the next morning and they emailed me a FedEx label for me to return the MBP for a replacement machine. They are also crediting me the amount of the iPod and printer (took advantage of free iPod via education store) directly to my credit card b/c I won't be able to submit the rebates. So far the process has been very smooth and support has been very helpful...now lets just hope I get a new machine with no issues.

I can't believe this is still a persistent problem. I was hoping to wait a couple of months for Apple to get a better supply of the screens. It looks like AppleCare is AppleDoesn'tCare when it comes to addressing this issue. I had two bad Samsung screens and gave up. It shouldn't be this difficult to get an acceptable screen on a $2500 computer.

I was really shocked when I found out mine had the yellowing. I waited on backorder for a couple weeks, so that lead me to believe that Apple was churning out new mbp's with screens free of the problem.

When I talked to the fellow at my local Apple store and then a gentleman from Apple about it, they both acted as if it was the first time they had heard of the problem.

The guy from the Apple store was like "yellow? .....did you restart?"

I really hope my next one is perfect. I don't have the time, money, or energy to run around the block with Apple.

i have been waiting to buy my first mac for 4 yrs.... but when the day i got my 36 week samsung glossry 2.2 mbp, i dont feel happy:( at all. it's the display problem again!!!!!!

if anyone could remember in sept 2003 the new ti powerbook has the big display problem( before that, apple used to use better quality display from sharp). apple seems to take a long time to finish the issue and i forget abt buying a powerbook. Then the intel mbp is coming out, i keep waiting until this sr mbp with led display is out in june. I has noticed it has the yellowish problem, so i wait until sept !!!! and hope they fix it,,, BUT it happened on me. god , shoule i leave apple alone ?

1. I ordered my mbp online, could i get a replacement in an apple retail store ? i'am in canada.
2. Should i ask for a 2.2matt screen if i want to get a better chance to have a LG display.
thanks for sharing ur info.

If you see 9C67 the manufacture is LG, 9C68 is is LG ... or do you see something else?).
i think youve made a mistake there, do u mean the 9C67 is Samsung? and the 9C68 is LG or the other way round? plz clariffy! thanx for the great thread!

I don't see any reason why you couldn't have it replaced at an Apple store. I'd just make sure they have stock first. Call them up and ask if they have 2.2 matte macbook pros in stock and then go down and get it replaced.

I personally like the matte screens a lot better. You don't get glare and it's better on your eyes if you spend a lot of time working on the laptop. It does look like the matte screens have less of an issue too. But I just got a mbp with a matte screen and it had yellowing, so who knows.

I just unboxed my brand new macbook pro that I ordered from Amazon.com and, guess what, the bottom of the screen is faintly yellow.

The display model is 9c68, week 36, matte

here's my question -- I bought this from amazon.com but I have a mac store about a half an hour away. Will they let me exchange this yellow one for a new one?

A quick reply would be great since I'm about to drive up there.

Hey brother, I feel you!
week 36 9c68,matte and the ****ing yellow on the bottom:mad:

let me knw what you get upto!

Haha, I bet both of ours were pissed on together on the assembly line by some disgruntled employee. That must be the problem, right? An angry gang of employees with overactive bladders. I mean, it couldn't be that Apple just refuses to fix a known and documented problem with the LCD displays they put in their macbook pros?

I sent mine off to Amazon for a refund this morning and then I'll go to the Apple store to pick one up. I'll let you know how that all goes. I hope it doesn't take a million years for Amazon to process my refund.

No yellowing, no dead pixels.

However the bottom quarter inch of the screen is extra bright (uneven illumination)
across the whole bottom of the screen. Is this normal?
I didn't have this problem on my older rev D powerbook.
Regardless, given the yellowing problems, I'll probably count myself lucky I got an LG
and live with it else risk getting a worse screen. Everything else about
the machine has been fine.

It does seem to take Amazon a million years, (or well over a month in some cases), to process a refund. Having said that, however, they have never failed to issue the refund on any of my returns.

Hey i recently got a macbook pro 15 2.2 g for the start of college. I purchased it on the 20th of august at the irvine campus store becuase no one in my area had them in stock. Mine has the problem as well, its a week 27 samsung and i was wondering how i would go about getting this fixed if i did not buy it from a mac store.
I was thinking if it would be such a hassle them i would just keep it like it is.

errmmm... they gave you a credit? I asked them about it and they said I would just have to send in the UPC from the new computer. They said it would be shown in the order# that there had been a replacement, and the 30-day deadline would start when the replacement was shipped. Also, why did they make you take it to an apple store? They just did my replacement over the phone.

I've had quite the opposite experience. Amazon seems to be the fastest at giving refunds of any online retailer I've dealt with. Heck, I had to send a 50" TV back and had my refund within a week.

Well, I sure hope my experience turns out to be similar. I need to wait for the refund before I can walk into my Apple store and buy a new MBP.

And I'm missing the Team Fortress 2 beta. I hope Amazon realizes this and bumps my refund into the fast lane. ;)

Week 33 2.4GHz here. No yellowing that I can see, and if it's there, I'm glad I can't see it.

AppleCare said I had two options, 1) Send it in or, 2) Take it to the store. I felt I had a better chance explaining and 'showing' (thanks to the test images posted in this forum) the issue to a genius at the store rather than trying to explain it to the mediocre (I didn't luck out with my support rep) support rep on the phone. When I called back the next day I stated to them I wasn't interested in waiting the 4 weeks for a new MBP and asked what they can do for me. This is when they came back and said they'll give me credits for the nano and printer, and when they receive the defective MBP back at the returns center, I'll get the refund on the machine. I lucked out the second time with a very good support rep. This way I can go to the local store and pick up a new one. Going stock this time as opposed to custom so I can deal directly with the Apple store if needed.

Just a question to anyone with the yellowing.
How bad was it, ie; could you have lived with it etc??
Mine seems very slight sometimes and I wonder whether Im being picky??

Purchased over the phone.

Anyway, it's going back... Priority order, had to do a test over the phone with resetting PRAM. Then put through to after sales care. He seemed to be very aware of the problem without mentioning any specifics.

Is there anyway I can hold onto this yellow one until the last minute? I've got a lot of work on and its my only machine. Why should I lose out when it's clearly Apples'

Somehow my replacement shipped today, even though they havent recieved my original computer yet, and they said i would have to wait 7-10 business days. it's only been 3 business days, so that's exciting. hopefully it will not be yellow...

Week 36 MBP no yellowing with the LG panel.

Just got my MBP (my first mac, BTW). It is a week 36 w/ LG screen and has no yellowing issues. I love this thing. My only complaint is I wish I could tilt the screen a little farther back.

I'm not dissing them as I've always gotten my refund, but never in a week. It usually takes 3-5 weeks.
