I am retracting my previous post. I can see a subtle yellow tint towards the bottom half of the screen. Hardly noticeable when viewing strait on but when viewing at an angle the entire screen has a yellow tint. This is disappointing because I went to the Apple store to specifically avoid this problem!

Running the little test on page one reveals the yellowish tint. So how long do you guys suppose I will go without my notebook? Trying to decide whether it's worth waiting a week or two while sacrificing productivity.

Macbook Pro 2.2ghz 15" Matted bought from the Apple Store (physical location not online) on the 18th of September.

Just registered to say, I received my 15mbp with samsung screen on the 6th, had yellowing issues. Didn't check the week. I just received my replacement week 37, has a samsung screen, has yellowing. I am going to demand a full refund for this and the ipod and I'm going to go buy an HP 8510p. I am completely disappointed with Apple quality control. Also, the right side of my screen hangs off the edge a little less than a MM as if the screen was shifted over. My first one didnt have this problem. Applecare has been great, but the actual product is sub par. I could understand if it was a sub $1500 laptop, but it's not.

thats really bad mate. could you tell us the spec of your machine, screen type and where you are located?

KingYaba, I'm sorry, but every single MBP i have ever seen (displays, friend's machine) have a very yellow cast when viewing from an angle. the screen is only designed to be viewed straight on. the issue is only when the bottom of the screen has the yellow cast when viewed straight on. It is incredibly annoying and even makes text on a white background hard to read. if you don't have that, then you don't have the issue at all.

basically, if you are reading this forum, and the bottom of the screen looks like piss, then you have the issue. however, it is normal for the screen to be slightly darker on the bottom than on top. that is also not the issue.

Then maybe this is a screen-calibration issue? I sort of feared I may be overreacting a little bit but I do have the Samsung panel, correct? It doesn't look like "piss" as a dark yellow but it exhibits a yellow hue. You have to look for it for it to be noticeable. When doing the picture test from the 1st page of the thread it is noticeable. When I was emptying the trash and moving that window from the top of the screen to the bottom I noticed a big difference in the clarity of the white color to where it changed a few shades yellow.

Do I still schedule that appointment with a Genius?

Both machines have been 2.4 15" CTO with Samsung screens. I'm in Massachusetts. Both have come from the online store.

Matte or glossy!!

Woops. They were both Matte.

Just got off the phone with Applecare. I'm getting a full refund for both the ipod mini and macbook pro.

They were very helpful. The woman just asked what I want to do at this point, I told her I want a full refund, she transferred me to sales. I told the woman in sales that I need a refund on the ipod too cause I bought it for the promotion. 5 minutes later, they're emailing me shipping labels. +1 for Applecare, -2 for Apple product.

Forgive me for trying to gauge whether or not Apple has a certain threshold on complimentary LCD replacement. My screen has yellowing but not as prominent as some on this thread have describe. Hence my trepidation.

It would be a damn shame to drive all the way to the store only to not qualify for a free replacement. I do not have the funds to purchase a new screen at this moment so that time and effort could be avoided by asking questions here at MacRumors.

Say what? If that's correct why post a jpg with two pure white boxes? The floor models I looked at didn't have the problem. Are you saying it is as yellow as this: :), no way. Maybe a very diluted urine color but I would rather say it reminds me of a light nicotine stain. Another thing I saw was an almost pure white line running across the top of the screen. (Best seen on boot up.) The menu bar tends to obsure it.

My advice is to call the store and ask them about a replacement. Also tell them that you want it calibrated by someone at the store. If you can walk out with a system that looks "normal" meaning what every other manufacturers screens look like then great. I do not consider "normal" to be "slightly darker on the bottom than on top" that's bargain bin material.

Repair worked

Hey all,
I had a week 22 2.2 ghz 15" matte SR MBP with a Samsung display. I sent it off for repair (rather than replacement as everything else about it was great). At first I was told they could not see anything wrong with it, but I argued and got it repaired.

The replaced my bad (yellowing/poor gradients/bad backlighting) samsung with an LG and it looks great. The forum finally looks white again. No dead pixels either!

My only complaints: Now the lid doesn't close fully on the left side. Also The aluminum bezel at the bottom part of the visible screen seems scratched/minorly chipped at two places, which is kind of annoying and allows for a bleed through. Still, the screen is much better so I'm willing to live with these things.

+1 for my support experience. I definitely recommend bringing your MBP into an apple store and getting it repaired vs. replaced.

Why do you recommend getting it repaired vs. replaced? I am returning my MBP do the Apple Store for a replacement unit, already declared D.O.A., partially because of the bottom 1/3 yellowish screen and other issues too (very buggy, like fonts constantly disappearing and not waking up from sleep, even after Mac OS X reinstall).

So i got my mbp back yesterday (dropped it on 09/11/07 picked up on 09/20/07, screen replsed i got lg panel cannot notice any tint so far, looks pretty good , so happy to have my laptop back.

I got my replcement unit today...delivered at work. I replaced it because of a non working DVD drive. This is a Week 37 Samsung (again) glossy. So far so good...the bottom of the screen is the same as my previous one. I beleive a really really little yellow and depending from where (what height) i am looking at the screen. I ll try to post photos later on. Now my question is very simple:

When you have that 1/3 yellow issue:
1- Do you notice it right away (very obvious)
2- Could it be so subtile that some people will not notice and some will?

Thanks

I just received a matte 15" Pro with an LG display today, the very bottom has a slight yellow fuzzy colour when I viewed the images from the first post.

I noticed it before the startup sound came on the first time I opened my new MBP. It was so obvious.

Also, my replacement was "shipped" on wednesday, but the fedex tracking info is still stuck on "data transmitted to fedex" and gives no expected delivery date. weird. very very weird.

Yes, in some cases it can be extremely subtle. Mine was subtle enough that nobody but me could see it, even when directly asked, until I pulled out a last-generation MBP to show them for comparison. Then they immediately saw the difference and said "yeah, it looks like the bottom got pissed on."

I chose to repair in my instance as the only thing wrong was my yellow screen. My keys were alligned, my HDD working great, no KPs...all and all a great machine except for the ugly samsung lcd.

Obviously if you have more than just the screen problem, demand a replacement. But if the only thing wrong is the screen, and you do not want to wait 4 weeks for a replacement, just get it repaired.

I understand the hold ups about "repairing a new machine", but its not like the screen repair meant that the machine as a whole was inferior, just a bad screen. I also don't think that something else would break due to the repair. It's ultimately whatever you feel comfortable with.

repair ?

i got my "yellowing" week 37 samgsung mbp on sept 5th and i called apple

today, they said i have passed the 14 days return period, they can't give me a

replace one, only thing they can offer is get it repair. i am so disappointing

here, Anyone here in the same situation ? Repair here means replace another

screen or just do some software fix ?

One more question here, i have the glossary display is that possible to

replace with a matt one ? i will go apple store today.

Anyone else noticed that even week MBP seem to be LG panels and uneven week seem to be Samsung panels. Also that 2.4 GHz might have lesser tendency to have Samsung or at least people with 2.4 GHz seem to have less tendency to report.

Btw, I got 2.4 GHz Week 35 Samsung panel with yellowing.
