Anyone else noticed that even week MBP seem to be LG panels and uneven week seem to be Samsung panels. Also that 2.4 GHz might have lesser tendency to have Samsung or at least people with 2.4 GHz seem to have less tendency to report.

Btw, I got 2.4 GHz Week 35 Samsung panel with yellowing.
I have a week 33 LG Glossy with no Yellowing. Odd weeks can be LG as well.

help~~~yellowing issue cant get repair in CANADA

Hi, anyone here from CANADA having the yellowing issue? I got my 15" 2.2G 37 week Samgsung glossary mbp on sept 5th. IT'S yellowing on the bottom 1/3!!! I call Apple CANADA today, they said they never heard abt the problem, so i talked to their supervisor. She asked me to bring it to an apple store and let them check it.
The gentleman there admitted that there is a yellowish tint on the bottom 1/3 when comparing to the top but it's not quite noticeable, and his boss said it’s should be normal since the bottom have some pressures on and it wont be a problem!!!!

He refused to report to apple and get it repaired. They said the only way I can do it to wait until apple officially announce this “yellowing “issue.

What should I do at this point, anyone can give me a hand .

Do you have another Apple store nearby you can try?

Or try going to the store again at a different time of
day when a different Genius and manager are working?

How yellow is it? Apple has been pretty understanding with
most folks for this issue. If it's not that bad, like you really
have to look for it, than maybe you should keep it?

I'm really tired of apple and its stupid policies !! I had the same problem dude ... I took it back to the store the first week, and they told me it's "within spec" and all the macbook pros are like that (they did the comparison in store with the floor model.) anyway, I was unhappy and I called tech support today and the guy performed couple of tests with me and was convinced that I have a bad screen and he gave me a reference number for exchange, and he told me to take back the box and everything to the store and get a new one, I left a note for them !

I went to the store again today, and they agreed it's pale and yellow at the bottom this time !! but they refused to do the exchange, and offered me a free LCD replacement !! the genius guy just told me you had to bring it back sooner for the exchange (I have it for like 20 days now), even though I told him I brought it back in the first week and you guys just denied the yellowish screen issue ... it's not my fault!! anyway ... since I have so much of luck in my life they didn't have the display in store and I have to wait until they order the new display, and then it takes about 5 days for them to replace it ! I am a student and I don't have time to go back and forth to the store! at the end I"ll end up with a repaired laptop :(

Which apple store was this at? How bad is the yellowing? Pictures?

All of these crappy stories, makes me think I'll try for
a REFUND instead of replacement and wait and see
if things get better with Penryn MBPs in January.

No matter what Genius you talk to, I guarantee the first thing
out of their mouth will be "I've never heard of that issue before".

It's fun. I took it to two apple stores here, at the beginning i showed it to a regular technician (young guy) , they said " yea, it's yellowing on the bottom" then they asked the senior to come, and both of the senior guys can't see it and say " it's normal " . Now they ask me to left my notebook there and they will do some tests and wait for monday to call apple back.

before i left, they said something like they dont see any problem there, and no matter which apple stores i go people will just not repair it only if they want me to feel happy.

i will wait until monday. BTW i'am in waterloo, ON, Canada.

lol
I heard that twice today :D first on the phone, and then in the apple store this evening ... but he said something a bit different ... "That's odd ... that's my first time seeing such a thing" :D

Called the store and set an appointment for 9:00 AM sharp on Saturday (22 September). The gentlemen on the phone recognized the yellowing issue and agreed to have it checked out. I shall report back tomorrow.

In addition to the two images that have appeared throughout the forum (the black and grey patterns with squares), it helps to set your background to grey and autohide the dock so that you can see the yellow region better. The genius actually did this for me, I just had the two images. Also, be polite, but firm. And as always, its better to be prepared for drama and pleasantly surprised when things go your way. Good luck

I did the same thing (those two pics), and I tried to be polite and at the same time firm and a lot of drama ... none of those worked :D I had to ask for manager ...

We are supposed to get repairs for something that is "within spec". Apple can't have it both ways. Is there a problem or isn't there? (We know the answer, they know the answer. This is not how you should treat your customers.)

Any one got a week 38... if so any issues?
Awaiting for mine to arrive.. Spec below

Cheers

Forgive me for trying to gauge whether or not Apple has a certain threshold on complimentary LCD replacement. My screen has yellowing but not as prominent as some on this thread have describe. Hence my trepidation.

It would be a damn shame to drive all the way to the store only to not qualify for a free replacement. I do not have the funds to purchase a new screen at this moment so that time and effort could be avoided by asking questions here at MacRumors.

im sorry but you must be a bit of an idiot if you cant make up your own mind about if a problems bad enough to warrent taking it in to get looked at. try reading the posts in the forum before asking silly questions.

This is exactly why I ask "silly questions" here on MacRumors to avoid wasting two hours of my life only to leave the store disappointed!

I showed up at 8:55 as requested. The store did not open until 9:05. I walk to the back and explain the problem. The Genius stood there and stared at the screen for several minutes. He reset the preferences and changed the calibration to that washed-out stock calibration. He had a second Genius look at it and the 2nd Genius' remarks were "I'm not good at this... I don't know what exactly is the problem." "Seems within spec to me."

The original Genius concluded my machine does indeed have yellowing but falls "within spec" therefore does not qualify for any replacement or exchange unless I'm willing to play the lottery again and of course pay the 10% restocking fee.

You can imagine how pissed off I am. matt l this is exactly why I post here on MR. I wanted to gauge whether or not Apple had some sort of threshold on yellowing. My question was answered! They do indeed have a standard so here I am stuck with a $2,000 laptop with a bad LCD screen. UNACCEPTABLE.

Someone link me replacement screens so I can replace this myself.

That's ridiculous. You should call and speak with a manager. Tell him or her that you do color sensitive work on your mac and can't afford to use a screen that doesn't display the color white correctly.

I forgot to put this in my last post, but it's a different topic anyway.

I went into the Apple store last night to check and see if I could open up a macbook pro in store after I purchased it to make sure everything was fine.

I first spoke with a grunt on the floor, a new grunt who had only been working there for a few days, but he seemed well aware of the yellow screen problem.

A manager told me that I could definitely open up a mbp with him and we could both check it for defects. If it had a yellow screen or a defective keyboard they would immediately exchange it.

However, if there was a stuck pixel on the screen. I would have to pay the 10% restocking fee. I found that kind of ridiculous, so now I'm very apprehensive about buying a mbp at all. With my luck I'll open up the box and everything will be perfect except for the red stuck pixel right in the middle of the screen.

Has anyone ever had their macbook pro replaced because of a stuck pixel? How did it go?

Completely ridiculous...I would to back and complain. $2K for a bad screen is not good.

I called them today again, and I was on the phone for like 40 mins with different people. At the end they told me I can not do the exchange for 2 reason. First I have it for more than return policy, and second cause the whole unit is not affected, and it's just the LCD. If it was my responsibility to aware them of the issue before the end of return policy... I did, and they were the ones who denied the issue in the first place ! I guess their policy is to keep refusing until the costumers pass the 14 days and then offer the repairment.

Now here is my question :D

Since I have no other choice but replacement of the LCD,would you guys send your computer through the replacement process, or you would just stick to it?? is it worth it? I have absolutely no experience in this area ... is there any hidden fee or something for the repairment?

I ordered 2.4 matte on the online store and it is perfect LG screen. Perfect except for the red and white stuck pixels in the center of the screen. I called apple support on the 14th day after receiving it. They said that They would exchange it. Now I m worried about getting one with the yellowing issue:(
I will post my results after my new one is delivered.
Out of the frying pan and into the fire I guess.

Alright, so heres my week old MBP 2.4 glossy with Samsung screen:

I have a Genius appt at 1230 this afternoon. Should I even bother?

Honestly, the only reason I noticed my yellow tint is because I could tell the bottom of the screen was darker than the top. I will be using the comp for school - but using ArcGIS, a program for creating cartographic maps and analyzing data. Its not imperative that I have a perfect screen, but for 2500, i think I should...

So what do you guys think? Exchange, risk getting a worst yellow, maybe one with stuck pixels (mine has no dead/stuck pixels), or possibly an LG with the bleeding issue? Or cut my losses and keep it?

Guess I'm asking, What would YOU do, if you had a screen like my pics above?

My experience is here https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/352082/

I had my MBP repaired as nothing was wrong with it except for the screen. The genius noticed right away and sent it off for repair. During the repair, I had to call apple as they "needed info". They said they didn't see the problem, so I got to argue until the helped me. They replaced my yellow samsung with a great white LG. I made sure the genius noted that my MBP was scratch free in case it got damaged at the repair facility. My only complaint about my new screen is that the metal along the bottom of the visible screen is scratched/chipped at 2 places. It's only noticable at certain angles, but makes you wonder what is considered "acceptable" at the repair depot.

There was no charge for this service. I brought in my laptop, it was sent off, and I had it back within the week. At checkout, an invoice printed for $350 which concerned both me and the salesperson, but no $ was due, it was just informing me how much it would have cost had it not been covered.

I was happy with the experience. I now have a nice LG screen with no dead pixels.

Thanks a lot, you've mentioned a good point here, I have to ask them to note that is scratched free !

I'm just a little worry if they replace it with another Samsung !! I discussed that with the apple Genius, and he assure me that all the Apple screens are made by LG Co. only. When I told him about the serial number for samsung (0000C968 and 67) he had no idea.

I hope I'll get a good LG screen like yours. By the way, did u take it to store or you sent it back to the tech support center? I'm taking it to the apple store for repair.
