Guess I'm asking, What would YOU do, if you had a screen like my pics above?

Looks like mine does. It is being replaced, I'm not satisfied with that in relationship to the cost of the product and I use it for photography so correct colour is imperative, if the next one is no better or worse I'll get a refund and consider my options.

I'm sure you will be fine. When I brought mine in, I kept dropping hints that I would prefer an LG, but of course, I didn't expect anyone to actually write that down. I brought my laptop in to my nearest apple retail store so the genius could look at it. He then had me sign the repair order and said he would mail it off to be repaired. I had the option of having it mailed back to my house when finished or picking it back up.

I chose to pick it back up as I expected another Samsung screen/lots of scratches. In the end I got lucky. If you do receive another Samsung screen, just raise hell. My advice, however, is to look for yellowing before you rush to see who manufactured your display. Don't forget, there are still users on the forums who have yellow LG screens.

In my case, I always expected the worse and was pleasantly surprised when things worked out. It all depends on who you speak to and your general attitude. Also, I recommend you check your repair status often (www.apple.com/support then click "check my repair status" on the lower right).

Also, make sure you have everything backed up before you send it off for repair (they will make you sign a wavier saying everything is backed up).

I also recommend setting your background to gray and autohiding the dock. This makes it easier to see the yellow. In my case, the genius moved a finder window from the top to the bottom and noticed it right away.

Thank you for your useful advise ... I would pick it up there so I can check it in front of them. But they told me they would repair it in store, they just didn't have the part on that day in stuck.
About the test ... I have those two pictures with 2 white squares on top and bottom, and they are great for yellowish issue test when you full screen them in iPhoto.
I appreciate your help again.

No worries. You're lucky that they can do it in store. The apple store I went to was not the "main" one (too lazy to go downtown to Chicago) so maybe that's why they couldnt do it. This way, you're less likely to get a rough handed repair tech who doesnt care about being nice to your mac

hmmm...

according to the test image, my screen DOES have the issue. Funny thing is, I don't notice it unless I am viewing such a test picture. I had heard about this problem for quite some time now, and I even spoke to applecare before buying to make sure they would replace if i DID have the problem. I had always thought i was in the clear... so what can i do about this?

15'' 2.2GHz SR MBP - Glossy

There seem to be two schools of thought on this, so what you do should depend on which one you are in:

1)I paid $2000 and up for this machine. There is a reason why I bought an apple product, I expect perfection. If this is you, then pursue a repair/replacement.

2)Well, the screen is yellow, but it is only when I view these two test images. I have not noticed it up until now with my regular usage, and probably will not be in a situation where I will be seeing those test images everyday. I think it's yellowing, but i don't know, so I guess I can try to get a new screen/computer.

Keep in mind that if you try to get a replacement, you could end up with a machine that is not as good as your current one. Apple will replace it, of course, but you could have some downtime without your computer. Also, if you just do a repair instead of an exchange, you might get a screen that is worse in terms of yellowing. Again, Apple should fix this problem should it occur, but there may be a lot of back and forths.

You've probably noticed that the users most adamant about replacing their displays can really notice the problem. It is described as "someone pissed on my screen", and this is without "the test".

For me, I thought I could live with it, but I could notice the problem whenever I was posting on these forums as the white at the bottom would be horribly colored.

I hope this helps

It really depends on the user. I bet a lot of people have a yellow screen but don't recognize it. All it takes is one trip to MR though...lol.

If it bothers you then change it. Why settle for something you're not happy with? After all, the whole point of getting a mbp was to make you happy, right? (in one way or another). You bought it expecting to be satisfied - otherwise you wouldn't have boughten it in the first place.

No matter what Genius you talk to, I guarantee the first thing
out of their mouth will be "I've never heard of that issue before".

Apple Geniuses are no more qualified than everyone on this forum. I'd consider them run-of-the-mill PC techs, no worse, no better.
The light inside a retail store is nothing near what it is in everyday life, so the yellowing issue might be harder to spot. Geniuses are also probably told not to give out replacements like candy. Many of the geniuses don't even read macrumors or any other similar site (just a guess). It's just a job for them, not a passion as the name would imply. If any of you have ever worked in customer service, it is one of the suckiest jobs in the world. They are more interested in getting you out the door and out of their hair than actually helping you--at least those of them who have been doing it for any amount of time. The idealism quickly goes out the window.

FWIW, I've been through 5 MPB screens and they are PISS yellow at the bottom. Some have been LG screens. I'm done with the MBP. Don't marry for beauty, ladies and gents. You'll be sorry. I returned a Dell Vostro 1400 x 2 b/c I thought it was ugly, heavier, etc. But that was a bad move. I wish that I had kept that one. I might have to reorder.

Alright, so heres my week old MBP 2.4 glossy with Samsung screen:

So I went to the Genius bar today to exchange my MBP. The Genius asked me "Whats the problem?" and I replied "I've got a Samsung screen with the bottom 1/3rd or so having a yellow tint." He immediately went to get a manager. Thy both came back, and said "Can you show us?" So I opened the above pictures. Immediately the Genius said "Alright, lets get you a new one."

However, the manager then notified me that they were all out of 15" MBP's, and that I could get a full refund and order online. I told him I didn't want to do that, as I didnt want to have to wait 1-2weeks for my laptop. So, I took my MBP back, and told him I'd be back when they got more in.

Now I'm starting to weigh my options...

1) Keep it, live with the yellow tint on the bottom (which isnt TOO bad, but is annoying - it makes the bottom of the screen look darker).

2) Call tomorrow, and everyday from now until Satuday (when my 14day return runs out) and hope to get a 15" without a yellowing issue - I told them I'm opening it right there in store to make sure it didnt have the same problem, and they agreed it was a good idea.

3) Return it for a full refnd. My girlfriend has a not-so-great HP dv6000 or something, which I could probably get by on for my school work - and wait for Oct/jan for an updated MBP, which hopefully doesnt have the screen issues.

The problem I see with waiting is that there is almost always going to be something wrong with a next gen system. I mean, if its not the display, itl be keypads not registering, or DVD drives failing, or fans/other internals failing.

Bleh. Not sure what to do at this point.

I'm sort of in the same boat -- I'm waiting for Amazon.com to refund me for the broken, yellow screen MBP they sent me.

If I had had the choice, I would have exchanged it at an apple store for a perfect one. But since I didn't have that option, I'm going to wait until October and see if Apple announces anything. The way I figure it, if they announce an update, it'll be in October so they have time to produce before Christmas.

But I can't really wait much longer than October/November. I have a lot of work to do that would be done so much easier on a MBP as opposed to my iBook.

wow ... How lucky you are !! I had the same conversation with them in the first week, and they replied : since all our models are like yours we consider it as "within spec" and I came back, and now I only have one choice : repair it!
which apple store did you go? I shouldn't have bought mine in Philadelphia I suppose :D The geniuses are not cool down here in compare to New York...

Why not just get a full refund then return to the apple store when they get more? That way you don't have to worry about 14 days.

Are there any samsung screens that aren't messed up?

I'll be honest I'm surprised they were going to give you a new one...the pictures don't look that bad (but the bottom does look more yellow than the top).

I recommend getting a full refund if it was offered. Do not wait past the return time period. Your only choice then would be a repair. You have 14 days since time of purchase. (It would be interesting if you called up and asked if there were any in stock.)

I would not mention anything about it being LG or Samsung. Stick to it being discolored. There is no more information necessary. Saying you have one brand or another will do nothing towards the goal of getting a screen free of the problem. I would like to have someone report that the tech went in to take a look at the manufacturer. That would be very revealing.

If I were in your position, return it, and wait about 2 weeks, hopefully they'll have some new ones in....call every 2-3 days and such, good luck :)

I cant BELIEVE that Apple still hasn't resolved this issue its been OVER three months! Either step up QC or drop a manufacturer ... goodness...

It would indeed be interesting if you were to call up anonymously and ask if they had in stock...they might have been lying to you because they didn't want you to get a new one. I wouldn't put it past an apple genius...

Your pics do not look yellow to me. It looks more like unconsistent illumination of the background, which mine suffers from (2.4 matte 15" samsung week 35). But I guess that's a defect too?

Hm? Could be. To mean, especially in my first pic up there ^, top vs bottom - the bottom looks to have a yellow tint, where as the top is nice and white.

Yea, I think thats what I'm going to do. I'll take i back tomorrow and call everyday. They told me they usually get shipments between 11am and 12 noon.

Actually, I did call the store about an hour later and asked - all out. Told me to call back tomorrow (and I will be - everyday, multiple times a day).

The funny thing is a manager walked up while i was talking to the manager doing my return (this is after the genius OK'd it), and said "You're better off ordering online, there won't be any 15" for awhile." My first thought was "WTF? Could it be Apple is going to stop shipping them to stores because of the rumored update in October?"

I guess only time will tell...

I don't don't know why you expect an update in October? Maybe
for macbooks, but it's pretty clear that the next MBP update will
be at MWSF08 in January to coincide with intel penryn. Read
the forums and learn grasshopper...

Don't remember saying that I expect an update...just that it was a rumor.

I have read the forums...have seen that there is a possibility of a slightly updated MBP in October. The fact is, no one really knows.

The MBP is not all packaged up and ready to go back to the apple store tomorrow.

Hope I can score a MBP without any friggin issues!

there might might might be a slight bump in specs after leopard, but is somewhat unlikely, the big change will most likely be in the first quarter of 08!
I could be completely off but that what Im thinking based on past updates...

Who is the manufacturer of '9C6D' ?

So our local BestBuy just started carrying Macs, and received their first batch last week. So I was curious to see what screens were on their MBP 15's. I went down today and they had just opened up one and put it on display. On looking at the LCD display info, it shows a model of '9C6D' ??

The display looked okay to me, if there was any yellowing, it seemed subtle.
Anyway, took a couple of pix. The photo seems to exagerate the yellowing, or maybe it was just the angle I took the pic. Has anyone else received a "9C6D" screen?

No idea, what is the made in week?

Perhaps new coding for new screens? I say this because I have looked at the manufacturer of screens on new 20" imacs and it is " 9C6A ". They are very white and no yellowing - albeit glossy screens - but one gets my point. Maybe new MBP screens ~
