On looking at the LCD display info, it shows a model of '9C6D' ??

Ohhhhh damn, could it be they finally got they're **** together and realized the SR LED LCD screens were screwed up?

Just returned my MBP 2.4 today. I think I might wait a few weeks to let these "new screens" come into circulation before I try and nab another MBP (not like I have a choice, my local store is ALWAYS out of them).

Can anyone confirm that this is indeed a new screen and/or new vendor?

Interesting...although the 9C6D screen looks quite yellow. If someone had received a 9C6D we would have definitely heard about it...this seems like a first.

I ordered my MBP Sept. 7 and received it today (Sept. 24). It's a week 38, 15" 2.2 model with an Samsung (9C68) LCD. Looking at the two images in finder, the bottom white square doesn't appear yellow so much as it is blurry and fuzzy, definitely not the same bright white of the top square in both the black and white versions. Does it sound like I have the yellowing issue?

those images were taken with my iphone, (and I emailed them so they were downsampled). I thought the screens looked nice, but it is odd how the iphone picked up the color casts. I think the human eye is more forgiving than the camera and can tolerate more (at least until the colors are isolated to little boxes at top and bottom of the screen LOL). But my initial impression was that the screen looked nice.

Just got my replacement today. Sadly, it's exactly the same as the last one. Samsung screen...

I think I'm going to use it for a while, and use my external screen as much as possible. Then I will ask for a replacement when Leopard is released... :D

I've received my Glossy 15" MBP yesterday. Build week 37 and it has a PERFECT Samsung screen. There is no yellowing on the screen.

So I hope to say "they fixed the problem ?!"

nope, they didnt fix it. Mine is a week 38 glossy samsung with yellowing. it's a replacement for my week 36 glossy samsung with yellowing... :(

Anyone experiencing yellow backlight on a MBP 17-inch, 2.4ghz model with 1680x1050 matte display? Unlike the reports here the 17-inch seem to suffer from a yellow glow in the backlight rather than a tint, and it is all over the screen but slightly less in the bottom.

I have started a thread here including my monitor make&model:

Well get over there and take some pics with a REAL camera :p

I went to both of the best buys near me, neither sell Apple computers of any sort. A worker actually told me that the Best Buys in New Jersey are the only ones that sell Apple Computers...

Looks like you're in Washington...wonder if this means Best Buy's all over are going to start selling them...

Anyway, I think I'll call Apple when I get a chance, and keep going up the ladder of techs until I get someone who knows what they are talking about - I want to know if this new code is a new screen and/or vendor...

Yeah, let me know what you find out!
I brought my Canon 10d with me and will try to get some better pix. Kinda hard to shoot these screens square on but I will try and do a range.

The best buy guys are funny, they hovered over me while I was checking out the screen yesterday telling me what a great computer it was, how fast it is blah blah blah... and all the while ALL i am doing is trying to do is check or yellowness LOL.

PLUS get a serial week build from the unit

I took some more shots but they turned out kinda grainy cause dumb me had the aperture too small! Anyway, attached is one shot... the screen has a kinda odd darkening toward the middle, which this shot kinda shows. (Not sure what caused the strange interference fringing.) I think there is also some slight yellowing/darkening towards the bottom of the screen.

I checked the serial and it looks like a week 37 build.

Just before I went to bestbuy, I stopped at compussr and looked at the MBPs they had on display - (which they have had for a while). They were obviously better displays compared to the BB ones. (Theirs is LG). I wouldn't say the BB units are horrible... but spending $2000-$2500 sorta makes you expect quality!

So if I had to guess I would say the '9C6D' are Samsung (unless there is another manufacturer making crummy lcd led screens.)

Well get over there and take some pics with a REAL camera :p

Purchased online through the education store.

Ordered: 8/21/07
Shipped: 9/3/07
Delivered: 9/5/07
Manufacturer: 9C68
Week: 35
MBP 15.4" 2.2 Glossy 160HD upgrade

Yellowing problem...it's going back. Called AppleCare and they asked me to take it to an Apple store. The genius confirmed there is a problem with the screen. He updated my case # with 'defective screen; requires replacement.' I called AppleCare back the next morning and they emailed me a FedEx label for me to return the MBP for a replacement machine. They are also crediting me the amount of the iPod and printer (took advantage of free iPod via education store) directly to my credit card b/c I won't be able to submit the rebates. So far the process has been very smooth and support has been very helpful...now lets just hope I get a new machine with no issues.

Pick up another stock 2.2 MBP Glossy today in the Apple Store. Week 38 ... Samsung screen ... yellowing on the bottom. It doesn't seem to be as bad this time but it's still there. Quite ridiculous...

Just getting a refund this time.

I get the same results on my week 34 2.2 lg matte.

Amazingly I have a Samsung (9C68) matte screen, but with no yellowing what so ever. Maybe Im not looking hard enough for it;). Anyway, the manufacture is C2110E00 , but I have no idea what that means as far as what week it was made.

My week 27 matte Samsung was fine as well.

I brought my MBP into my local Apple store today and they told me that while the screen appears "in spec," they do see a yellow tint and would go ahead and wave the restocking fee to replace it. Unfortunately, they didn't have any MBP's in stock and did not know when they would be getting any in.

I was also told that if the store gave me a replacement and the replacement had the same yellow tint problem, they would not replace it again.

So I called AppleCare when I got home and spoke with a tech who opened a case stating that the machine was DOA and then connected me with a sales rep who initiated a new order.

The whole telephone call took about 20-25 minutes and both reps were very helpful. Neither acknowledged any type of widespread screen problem, but they didn't dispute my screen issue either.

I'm going to cross my fingers and hope for a problem-free LG screen.

mine was a samsung and it was perfect but the laptop has to go back because the casing was bent around the superdrive.. hopefully the new one is good too

Week 38
9c38 Samsung
Perfect no yellowing at all. No warpage, the sound is good no buzzing. It's a perfect machine. :D

wha? why do you get a good machine, and i dont, after 2 tries? i also have a week 38 samsung. its just as bad as my week 36 samsung... :( oh well. just keep sending them apple!

Besides yellowing...

Apart from bottom third yellowing, is some variation in illumination density considered within spec for these LED screens? I have only seen 2 15" MBPs so far, an LG (which to me is my benchmark, very white, even illumination) and another on display at bestbuy locally, (with an unknown manufacturer), no yellowing but there is some apparent darkening of the screen towards the bottom looking straight at the screen. Without knowing how "bad" these screens can get its difficult to decide if I should just buy one of these and learn to live with it. Or order from apple online and hope for something better. I took a Mac buddy with me yesterday to look at it (he has a 17" MBP) and he thought it looked okay, so maybe I am just being critical as hell. (I am an art director so maybe I'm too demanding.)

I don't know. That does look pretty dark to me. The 15" mbp that I picked up, while yellow, did seem to have pretty consistent screen lighting except for a dark blotch in the middle. My iBook's screen looks better than the one in your pic.
