Has anybody fooled with leopard long enough yet to know where to put color calibrated profiles .icc files. I did an erase and install for Leopard and can't find where to put it.:)

Everyone should try and calibrate the display before freaking out and returning.
Out of the box, the Samsung will appear yellow.

The default Samsung 'Color LCD' profile is a little brown/yellow
overall. You can definately get the whites a little whiter. I've
done this and I tell you what, I'm not so sure my display
has bottom 1/3rd yellowing afterall or the difference between
the top and bottom white is really really minor. Alot depends
on viewing angle and brightness setting.

I believe the early Samsungs had REALLY bad bottom
third yellowing, like you didn't have to even run the little squares test
to see it. I think they are better now, but still not perfect.

No matter what you do, there is still a little yellowness to the whites, this
can't be helped due to the type of backlight used.
Even the LG has a little yellow to the whites. I think the LG's
seem more white only because the backlight is ALOT brighter
than on the samsung. Some will be more
sensitive then others.

Yeah its not LG or Samsung, I got a third party. I ran and posted the specs yesterday. Someone said it was a new supplier

Well Apple sent me the RMA for a swap out, now I'm debating if I deal with the slight tint, or roll the dice and hope for an LG. I waffle between yes I can deal with it to omg that will drive me nuts. I'm a graphic designer so I'm leaning towards rolling the dice for a even screen.

I've never heard of CMO so don't know their track record, but I'd probably
roll the dice, especially since you have that weird white spot on yours.

If you are a graphic artist, I think you will prefer the Samsung, it's
got MUCH better color rendition than the LG IMHO. See these comparison pics.

Good Luck,
Mandoman

I also completely agree with you and im buying a mbp tomarrow and is desperately hoping for the samsung model my 2 previous lg and samsung was a world of diff, lg looks sooo dull and crap compared to the samsung. Imo they both have some yellowing to some degree and I believe the yellow is natural temp of the led just the same was for ccfl backlighting had a bluish push. samsung has so much better colors and just so vivid it wows u but the lg is so dull and it looks so washed out that its hard to focus on text or pictures.

Hi! I'm planning on upgrading my PB this week and buying a MBP so I've been reading this thread. I'm a bit worried about what has been said about the slight sparkle and the comparative difficulty in reading text for a long while on the LG screens as I get visual migraines and something like that would set one off. I find it much easier to read text against a slightly creamy background. I also do a certain amount of graphic design so don't want the colours too washed out.

Quite a few people have asked the question about how you know which screen you have but I don't think anyone has explained it yet (or at least I didn't find it in the last 10 pages!) Sorry if it's there but I've missed it.

I'm going to the Apple Store on Wednesday if they've got them in stock. First choice the Birmingham store, second choice, Regent Street. Is it possible to tell from the information on the box which screen it has?

If they didn't cost so much extra, I'd be tempted to get a 17" instead and bypass the whole problem.

You won't really know unless you check system preferences. If you have a bad screen just send it back and get another. Mine is on its way back today. I had a OM with uneven backlight, white spot, and yellow/brown gradient.

I got a 9C6D screen. Don't know how to check the build week, but I ordered it through Apple Ed Store, it was shipped from China on Oct 23rd, and received it on Oct 25th.

Case -- closes perfectly even. (What a beautiful machine, and it's mine! :apple:) Screen - slight yellow in the bottom. I only really notice it when I use those test jpegs. When I look at all-white web pages, I don't see it at all. The whole screen looks absolutely white. (Or maybe I'm just colorblind.)

What concerns me though is the brightness. I've read somewhere in this forum of people having to set their brightness to just over 50% so they don't get blinded. I'm having to run mine between 80% and 90%. Is this something I need to worry about? And why does the brightness keep changing on me? I'd set it to 80%, and next thing you know it's 100%, or sometimes, 50%.

Sounds to me like you have the adjust brightness feature clicked on. I had the same screen and I also had the yellow on the bottom and my LED brightness was uneven, I exchanged it and am waiting for replacement

Just got my 2.4 15 inch Macbook Pro

Its PERFECT!

Custom build from China btw.

and got the 5Ghz Band on the Airport Extreme in the UK as well! :D

Lucky, mine was a 2.4 from china too I had the 160G 7200rpm as well. Bah, now I have to use my craptop until the new one ships

So I got my MBP back, I sent it in 3 weeks ago for the bottom third yellowing (Samsung).

I got an LG this time... and I liked the yellow Samsung better.

This new LG screen is very grainy looking, it has such a small viewing angle that the bottom of the screen appears darker. And I had about 3/4inch of backlight bleed.

On top of that, there were large black marks, a couple small scratches, dirty fingerprints on the case. And the top half of the notebook doesn't lay flat when closed anymore, it tilts up towards the latch.

So I called Apple Support, and after being on hold for 1 hour and 15 minutes, I talked to a guy who set me up a replacement machine.

The sad part of all this is that I bought this MBP for Grad School, and this semester will be almost over by the time I get my replacement MBP. Oh well, hopefully I will get Leopard free out of this trouble.

Ad for what its worth, on the invoice they sent along with my repaired MBP, it listed the replacement screen as "15.4" widescreen glossy, LG". So they might have ordered the LG on purpose, I don't know.

date: Week 43
led: 9c68 glossy (samsung)
bottom 3rd yellowish: yes

The first replacement machine was shattered by TNT and this is actually the 2nd replacement. Unfortunately, it is still yellowish. As I have been tired of talking to Apple technical support and especially I am not that lucky in the lottery, probably I will give up and accept the bottom 3rd yellowish screen.

BTW, can anyone please let me know where I can get the best color profile for *Glossy Samsung 9C68*?

Anyone know the return/exchange policy with apple? I just bought a MBP 2.4GHZ last friday and i think i have that yellowing issue as well. Would it be possible to go back to the apple store and just have it exchanged for another one?

Did you get it online or over the phone? Or did you get in the store? If you didnt' buy it in a store, they make you send it in and send a replacement when they confirm your return

LG screen at a guess?

I have no yellow issues and as far as I can tell no dead pixels either.

If anything there is a *tiny* bit yellow at the bottom.

Using Adobe 1998 profile.

:)

Edit: Ok after downloading those images properly I can see a yellow tinge on the bottom 1/4, its not *that* obvious for me to send it back.

Maybe if it gets worse in a few months or so.

Got mine today. Its a Samsung it had a slight dark band of the very bottom that disappeared once the dock was there and very very very very slight hint of yellow on the bottom. Its really so hard to (coworker couldn't see it at all) that I'm going to keep it. Its a lot better then the CO monitor so I'm gonna try it.

Just got my machine back. Had two faulty Samsung panels so far. Now have an LG (9c67). Slight dullness to bottom of screen but not much in the way of yellowing so I'm relatively happy. Well, enough to keep. This is a work machine and I have work to do with it.
