Personally, I have yet to see a really bad screen.

I booted up my mbp in the store before bringing home and could have sworn it was perfect. in fact, i didn't notice any yellowing on any of the display models.

after reading and reading about this issue I'm starting to think my display is a little unevenly lit and perhaps even yellow, but I'm not sure.

The profile that shipped with my computer was definitely off (looked a bit washed out sometimes) but I downloaded another profile and the colors look way better. On the desktop, the screen is gorgeous (samsung matte) but on a white background it MIGHT Look a bit dimmer near the bottom but it's probably just my imagination. Overall I'm pretty happy with the screen and don't think it's worth exchanging. I doubt my screen even has a problem - it's all in my mind because I've been reading about the defect so much!

If you post pictures I'll let you know if it's just in your head as well, lol.

even though I have this issue, it's not that bad... like at all. I will send you the picture, but trust me ... it's not in my mind :D I'm happy ... even with the problem

Where did you get that profile? could you please send it to me also? I really appreciate it.

Any news on if the new models are coming in with this problem still?

Trying to find a 15" 2.2ghz glossy, but they are hard to come by. All 3 apple stores near me do not have any, and I was hoping their new shipments would come in without the problem.

The apple store that I've got mine from, they just received them today, they were out for like 3 weeks ... they have week 33 in stock right now... but the problem is still there. but as I mentioned it's not noticeable.

I think if this happened to me I'd be pissed. Especially since these are the high-end line of Apple laptops and not the macbook.

This could affect graphic editors alot the group who uses these machines mostly.

Apple better clear up this problem with the LED's soon before the 17" models come out. which will be when???? October maybe?

I think the glossy have a higher chance of yellowing, love the glossy but finding i like the Matte much more....to me the matte seems much whiter and the brightness is brighter

I might take it back if they can just exchange it, but for reparing I'm not sure if it's worth it

by the way... did you get exchange?

Isn't it better to get it repaired than just to have it exchanged. Then your more likely to have a good screen put in rather than rolling the dice again with an exchange?

My 2 cents on the yellow screen...

My MBP and first mac ever shipped yesterday. If the display has obvious issues I will be seriously disappointed. To pass the long wait as they built my new little buddy I've been following a few threads including this one. I was typing away on my Dell Inspiron 6000 last night and noticed that the bottom portion of that screen was yellow. I don't know how long it has been like that but I don't believe that after 2 years of using the notebook I would have noticed if it wasn't for this thread.

Is it a glaring yellow on these questionable MBPs or is it something that we are trying hard to look for? Having recently built my first house I know the pain of spending a lot of money (to me) on something and expecting it to be perfect. I looked really hard and found a lot of tiny issues that no one else would ever notice. I guess my point is that if we continue to look for flaws we will never enjoy the product. There has to be a fault tolerance at some point. Admittedly, mine is pretty low.

Not having experienced the yellow screen issues myself doesn't add to the value of my opinion. Perhaps I am just tempering my expectations in case I receive a similar machine in a few days. Anyway, I hope it exceeds my expectations and if there are any issues, they are ones I can live with.

I went to the apple store exchanged and they were extremely helpful. One of the geniuses took a look and ok'd a replacement.

They let me look at the new unit before I took it home and I *thought* it looked ok in the store. Now I have it home I can once again see definite yellowing ... so now I feel like an idiot.

I'm going to use it for the next couple of days and see how it is, if its still annoying me I will take it back.

+1 for apple store staff in Manchester Arndale store being extra nice
-1 for me being an idiot and not looking properly!

Just to update my situation.

Took my MBP(number 2) back to the store again and explained how when I go it home that I could still see yellowing at the bottom. A (slightly rude) genius again agreed that it was a problem and ok'd another replacement.(I think he was annoyed when I mentioned MacRumors  )

I was then lucky to be passed on from the genius to a really helpful guy who let me open the next MBP(number 3) and after checking it out agreed that it was also yellow at the bottom and not acceptable...

On to the next MBP(number 4)! At this point I felt as though I was being a real pain in the *** , but the assistant reassured me explaining that he understood that I want it to be perfect considering the money being spent.

FINALLY! MBP number 4 was perfect with a really nice and consistent white screen and funnily enough all of the previous screens had been Samsung, this was the first LG I had been given!

So I am now a happy MacBook Pro owner :)

Good luck to everyone else!

Damn... that probability doesn't sound good for the rest of us looking to buy a new one. :(

3 in 4 macbook pro's will have the yellow screen. HAHA damn u apple. damn u.

white/close to white = LG = 09c67
yellow/more yellow = Samsung = 09c68

I believe that this is the only consistency that has been demonstrated. Very few people think the LG screen has yellowing. Many people, including myself, think that the Samsung screen is yellow at the bottom 1/3. I absolutely would have noticed this without this forum, and anyone could pick this out 100% of the time in a blinded test.

Haha 4 macbook pros? They must have been pretty angry. When I wanted to bring my sister's macbook back for vibrating they told me they would only give me one exchange because each time they open one it cost them 1200$. I guess that's BS then if your apple store opened up 4 expensive macbook pros. I'm very happy that you finally got one that was good. and if you notice problems with this one, don't be afraid to return. Good luck and keep us posted.

I picked up a week 33 from the store yesterday, under Display settings it says the manufacturer is 9C66...

Has a yellow tinge on the bottom, not that bad but definitely noticeable. Also has a misaligned key and an uneven shutting display.

I'm bringing it back in tomorrow for an exchange... I'm also entitled to a full refund since the unit is defective, correct?

I'll let you guys know what happens.

queshy, I saw your post the other day about the pretty awful customer service yourself & your sister got! It actually had me pretty worried! But I was personally blown away with how great the service was when I dealt with the staff in my local store! When they brought out the 3rd MacBook Pro about 4 or 5 staff gathered round all to agree that there was yellowing.

I think if I was to have any problems with this one I would get repair ... just to make sure I keep this screen , its great!

You have a week 33 machine. The week number is the two digits after the 87 in your serial numbers.
could you post pictures so we could see how bad the yellowing is? Thanks

there you go ... here is a picture. However, I couldn't get a good picture but you can see it. It's noticeable only with this picture, otherwise it doesn't bother me at all

wow, that is pretty good service! I wish my local store was as good, lol.

Just forget all those exchanges you did and focus on your lovely new perfect mbp :)

It's really not that noticeable...if you search the forums there are some pictures where the bottom white square is barely visible. your screen seems pretty good to me, but that's just my pov. im sure some other people will tell you otherwise. I'm not on my mbp now but later when I am I will post the color profile (although I don't remember where I originally got it form, I will make it clear that I found it on the net and that I didn't make it myself :) .)

yeah, in the picture is a bit better. when you look at it, that area is just a little bit more pale which is ok. I could get something even worse if I go for exchange.
if I haven't read this forum, I would never ever see it :D Thanx god I don't have any other problem

about the color profile ... I really appreciate if you can send it to me. I downloaded one from this forum, but it's too blue and cold on my screen.

No problem. as soon as I get home where my mbp is I'll post it here. I find it makes the colors on my samsung matte pop out much more, although it is a bit bluish (much less blue than the ones the machine ships with) so for me it's perfect.

I felt the same way it was there but i could live with it, I did for a week, when you finally get a great White screen, You wonder why you even said that in the first place.....I got the perfect screen on the 2nd shot....and i would not have it any other way :)

I'll give it a try ... either way I will be happy :D

Are you guys sure....

I received my MBP on the 20th, I'm in Australia if that makes a difference.

Its got a 9C68

Its a 2.4ghz with glossy and 2gb. Its pretty much standard.

I check out the images and like, yeah the bottom square is different colored but then when I position myself so that the bottom half of the screen is a my eye level, the top square becomes the yellowish square.

Are you guys sure its not just a positioning thing? LCD screens do have a "sweet" spot area and unlike LCD TV's, laptop screens aren't really designed with viewing angles in mind.

To make sure, I tried the test on my Samsug 931c 19" LCD on my desktop and again it gave me different colored squares for top and bottom, not yellow , but it all depended on my viewing angle.

That's how mine is (Samsung glossy screen). Only noticable when you are running those tests and really looking for it. I could have exchanged mine but decided to just keep it since I don't plan on staring at a pure grey screen with a small white box on the top and bottom of the screen anytime soon...

I installed Windows Vista on my MBP yesterday, and damn it ... it's noticeable in taskbar cause the fonts are white. but in OSX is fine

me 2 ... If I go for exchange, there is a possibility of getting something even worse :D

I can't believe we all are paying $2000 or even more for a laptop and ignore the problems so easily ... what is happening to apple ?
