I received my MBP on the 20th, I'm in Australia if that makes a difference.

Its got a 9C68

Its a 2.4ghz with glossy and 2gb. Its pretty much standard.

I check out the images and like, yeah the bottom square is different colored but then when I position myself so that the bottom half of the screen is a my eye level, the top square becomes the yellowish square.

Are you guys sure its not just a positioning thing? LCD screens do have a "sweet" spot area and unlike LCD TV's, laptop screens aren't really designed with viewing angles in mind.

To make sure, I tried the test on my Samsug 931c 19" LCD on my desktop and again it gave me different colored squares for top and bottom, not yellow , but it all depended on my viewing angle.

that's what i tried too, when i position myself lower as to the bottom of the screen, my eyes is level at the lower bottom of the screen, the yellow is more apparent. but when i position myself upper, my eyes leveling the top of the screen the yellowing is not so noticeable, do you think this is a defect? i'm really not comfortable with this, i hope apple finds a solution to help us... if they truly value us... frankly, this time, apple really disappoints me...

sorry for the delay in posting, but here is the profile I have been using with my samsung matte mbp. (non yellow, I think).

I want to stress the fact that I did not create this myself. I downloaded it from somewhere on macrumors that I can't find again (i lost the link). So to whoever posted this - thanks! sorry I can't give credit where credit is due.

I have uploaded the profile to a gmail account (macrumors doesnt let me)

This is an effort to determine if people are recieving new MBP without the bottom yellow screen issue as outlined.....
Good effort ajonesman, but isnt it time to make a sum up with all the answers given in this thread so we can see whats going on? :)

Yesterday i was at an Apple distributor, testing a MBPro with the led screen and checked the display brand, it was a 9C67, an LG but the yellow tint problem was there, now what does that mean that even LG displays have probs and that its not only Samsung displays?

Here, Here! Great thread Ajonesman! As for summing everything up ... ish ... so many different thoughts, I'm not even sure how one would tally them up!

SO ... here is my update. I've been in a tizzy on wither or not to buy a MBP right now ... didn't need one asap, but also wanting to get a new laptop, get it set up and move on with my life. First saw many many post about the yellow issues and even say many machines in the stores with the issue. Then I went out and bought one. I got home and the screen is so much crisper then my old lappie. But the color wasn't quite right and the bottom was more yellow ish, but not a lot compared to the rest of the screen ... to I didn't think it was a full on "bottom third issue". So as I was installing programs I kept trying to calibrate the screen with just getting weird results. I kept bumm'n out thinking I was going to be returning the computer to the store. I don't have one have the fancy screen calibration tools that uses a external sensor and I don't want to buy one because it seems like you should be able to get "close" without one.

Then I came crossed it in a thread ... Sorry, don't remember with one ... but a little name I'd never heard of. SuperCal. It's a free app for calibrations ... but the looks of it, it seems dated ... but whole cow! My screen is looking great now! Apple ... why don't you make your calibration scheme this easy ... instead of guessing with those silly cross hair sliders ... or better yet include a stock calibration that is at least "close"!

Anyway, you can find this little program here:

http://www.bergdesign.com/supercal/

I have a little blue ... but I keep refining the calibration and it is looking better and better as I keep refining it. When I'm done tinkering with it I'll post it as an upload and you guys can use it as a starting point. There is no yellow on the bottom 3rd and the "squares" look normal. Or if there is ... it is very, very silight and my imagination going a muck because of this thread. Time to stop checking this every 4 hours to see if someone has posted on it again and time to start enjoying this machine!

Oh yeah, LG screen and I picked it up two days ago. It's a week 33 machine.

i have a question, can i just use my macbook pro now? and can i just bring my macbook pro to an apple service center here after two years(since i have an apple care) to let them check my unit, and if so, repair and replace my lcd, my purpose for that is, maybe when the time comes(after two years) i'm sure apple has already solved the lcd issue, and my replacement lcd will surely be yellow free.... is that possible?

because, i don't really want them opening up my brand new macbook pro now, that it is so brand new, so can i wait for something like two years to bring my unit to them to have the lcd checked? will they accomodate me with this thing when that time comes?

Week 34 Samsung -- Definite 1/3 yellow at bottom

This is my replacement for a machine also with some yellowing. The yellowing is worse on this than the first one!

Calling Apple now...

For those contemplating an MBP now, I would highly recommend buying it from an Apple Store if you can for easier exchange. There are more fun things to do than sending your yellow MBP back and waiting for a replacement from Shanghai multiple times...

Is it true that there are models MBP led that dont have any problems with the yellowing and that they are as clear as a crystal?

the vast majority of LG screens seem to be ok, the problem is with the samsungs, what i want to know is, what combination of cpu speed and screen type will mean you are more likely to get an LG pannel?

i just ordered a 2.2 glossy with updated hard drive, and by the sound of things it usually means you get a samsung with this combination, which i will not be happy about. i cant belive apple are still allowing faulty displays out the door, if i get one its going straight back and i'll get one of the new sonys.

If there is nothing wrong with it, what would be your rationale for returning it?

You might want to work on punctuation, capitalization, & spelling.

if there is nothing wrong with it then i wont be returning it, however there's a very strong chance there will be if it has a samsung pannel.

you might want to stop acting like an uber geek and add somthing useful to the debate instead of pulling people up on grammer when yours isnt much better.

That's true ... I was so lucky that I bough it from local store. I have an appointment tomorrow at Genius Bar, hopefully they exchange it. (please be a LG his time :( )

maybe ou are right, most of the people with LG panel have ordered 2.4 model. maybe they put Samsungs for 2.2 models ... in this case I will not go for exchange cause it's not that bad

Does anyone have a LG with 2.2 CPU ???

You have to book an appointment in order to consult a Genius?

It's like a doctor's office o.o

Hello all, just a quick update. I said I would attach my color profile that looks pretty good after I got done fiddling with SuperCal (I totally understand that every screen is different ... but this is so much better then the shipping "default" calibration the MBP comes with new). So I'm making good on my promise, it's attached to this post. By the way, I have the LG screen, when I first got it, it appeared to have yellowing and the bottom 3rd yellowing ... no more! :)

The whites are white, blacks are black. At first I had a lot of blue hue with my calibration, but after a few goes I got that out. It looks super perfect now!

Again, it may not be perfect for you, however it may just be a good starting point to get the yellow out of you machine.

As I understand it the new displays are actually capable of a larger color gamut (I've read in some reports on the web, don't even ask me where! I just found them by googling around. It seems that some of this clor comes from in the yellow gamut and that may be way so many machines has a yellow tint.

Try SuperCal before sending your machine back ... its made the world of difference in my machine! It's taking me a couple days of tinkering with my calibration to get one that is not yellow and get the cold blue tent out, but it's been worth it ... its even, white, good color very clear. If i look at the screen from "keyboard level, yes there is a yellow tent do to color shifting ... but if you view the display from normal angles (like you would when you actually using it) ... no color banding at all, it looks great!

Good luck everyone!

Just got my hands on a 15" 2.2ghz from the apple store. Unfortunately, I was not lucky. Week 34 with a Samsung (68 Right?) with yellowing at the bottom. Very apparent if you view it from a side angle.

Damnit. I don't know if I want to deal with exchanging it after finally getting one, but eh. I may need to wait a week or so till the Apple store gets more in.
