I will be returning this MBP as soon as possible, and if they give me any trouble as im within the two weeks rule I will be returning it to them for a refund. And then I just go and buy a new one and start all over unless they actually send me something that works out of the box.

I dont find this amusing having to explain to them that there are actually problems with the delivered MBPs and that they think im sort of a nutcase imagining things and being more petty about proving the fault and it being within spec.

It should be an exception not a rule that this happens to customers, even their great service doesnt take away the foul taste in my mouth, feeling distrusted, insulted and unsatisfied and thinking they are doing me a favour by replacing a faulty unit instead of forcing me to repair a brand new unit.

They aint doing me a favour if they are replacing it with another obviously faulty unit. They do what is supposed of them when they give me a working product and without unacceptable faults.

Its not like I care that its not perfect, I dont, but I would be more satisfied if it was, but there are limits to what I see as simple imperfections when they become faults, such as yellowing. I've had 5 MBPs not one of them was without some fault, banding, yellowing, backlight leaking and heat.

They do seem to have serious quality issues, not only did my have yellowing it also idles at 56-58 C and simple tasks like surfing and installing applications makes it go up 65 and above. The previous ones I had with problems were much cooler idle at 42-50 C and at simple tasks no more than 60.

This seem to go up and down in waves probably as they get new recruits that dont know how to apply cooling paste. Still not acceptable to me even if they think its within spec that a machine should run 10-15 C warmer depending on the quality of the employees want to put into their work. Because some factory employees dont listen or their bosses dont communicate instructions correctly or whatever the reason all the way to Steve Jobs.

Anyway, im returning this one and I will get a replacement if they dont want to give me one I will get refund and then I will buy a new and replace it until I get tired of it or they ship me one that is in acceptable condition and not needing instant repairs. Maybe that will make them think about quality issues when making products I really really want to have.

P.S. And im probably getting a refund this time, because they it will be to much of a hassle to get a replacement unit when they already sent me so many faulty ones. Just as well might be good to get a new history with them.

Also I argument with Apple representatives in a good manner and inform them of my point of view on matters. They want a sale and I want a working without faults computer. If I dont get what I want I just get a refund and decide later what to do with my money. I keep myself within the two weeks that way I have as much on Apple as they have on me.[/QI UOTE]

Doesn't apple have a 15% restocking fee? My problem is that the "discerning customers" usually get dismissed and they say it's within spec. That's why I'll basically only buy from Fry's. No questions asked, no defending anything.

uh oh....

quick question--- if you've customized your notebook, your screwed and you can only send it back for repairs and not returns---- Im thinking about ordering a macbook pro but with all the yellow screen issues Im thinking 100x before putting an order,
please let me know what the rule is, as I'm interested in customizing the hard drive...

thanks everyone

Alright I grabbed a new MBP from work for the weekend :) I immediately noticed the horrible color profile and used one posted on another topic. But when I look down upon it from an angle, it's kind of got a bluish tint. When I look up at it from an angle, it's got a magenta tint. Since the keyboard is below the screen, the magenta tint reflects onto the keyboard giving the keyboard a reddish hue. Nothing earth shattering by any means although I wasn't sure if anyone else's had the same attributes. By the by it's an LG screen (9C67) week 33.

i've called the reseller in which i bought my mbp, they said, that they would see my mbp first and they will conclude as to which, i am subjected to lcd replacement or not, they said that they cannot replace my unit because replacement to them is only for one week, they can only replace my lcd, (which they would look at it first to see if i'm qualify for lcd replacement), i'm so disappointed, what if they don't see the yellowness at the bottom of my screen, because, as i've posted before, the yellowing is so subtle, that you should take a closer look before you notice it, what if they say that they can't see anything unusual in my screen? will i be doomed to live with the yellowness of this macbook pro?

I really feel for you.... Mine was there but light also....but moving the pages down I could tell, ...I had to replace it.....I would tell them yo dont want a MBP
That has been cracked open...you want a new one...good luck

I'm sorry if this may have been already asked, but I couldn't find it black on white in here.

I ordered a 2.2 matte MBP from the ADC store which will be arriving tomorrow. If i have the yellowing issue on that one, can i go to my local apple store and have it replaced by another stock 2.2 machine? Or do i have to call the apple online store to send me a replacement? And can I keep the "faulty" machine til the new one arrives? I'm in college here and dont know how this will be handled with fedex packages because everything arrives at the university's post office and i'll just get a letter in my mailbox...

So many worries before the thing even arrived :)

Honestly, I think a lot of you are over reacting. For some, the yellowing tint is very apparent and should be replaced, no doubt. For others, including myself, it's soooo subtle almost non-existant. In fact, I think the more you worry about it the more you're just tricking your brain into thinking there is a yellow tint on the bottom when there really isn't or it's hardly noticable.

Mine isn't really yellow but it is slightly dimmer on the bottom inch or so only when I'm looking at the grey and black background test with the two white boxes. It only became apparent after I looked at it for about an hour. I was convinced that my screen was defective and I was going to exchange it for a new one.

However, I really had to ask myself, did I even notice the problem before I read about it? No. Is the problem apparent on any websites with white backgrounds? No. Is the problem apparent when working with graphics in Photoshop? No. Is the problem ever apparent other than when looking at those the grey and black background with white box tests? No.

Anyways, I wouldn't worry too much about it unless 1. It's an apparent problem or 2. It hampers your productivity/work.

I have a samsung screen and at first I didn't really notice yellowing with dock at the bottom but I moved dock to left and have noticed it. Did both tests and does show some yellowing. I can really notice when I am on itunes in list view. If I call apple will they replace the mbp or just try to repair it as I cannot be without a computer I am in college and use it a lot. Any help appreciated.

If the unit shipped to you is defect you should not pay restocking fee, I never did, and I will refuse and bring them to court since why should I pay for their failures. If the unit doesnt have any problems and its you who simply doesnt want it. Well, you messed up your buy and you pay restocking fee.

There are not very much questions asked except for documentation until, about the second time you get a yellow-screen or something else MBP. Then they start to suspect you are one of those nutjobs who sees a tiny scratch and finds the product unacceptable. As said previously, im satisfied with their service, its just the quality issues that makes you look like a nutcase when you return to their custom service time after time with bad MBPs.

And if you are within the 14 days period, if there becomes a stand-off it will always be "either you accept a repair(or whatever) or a refund", never "you accept this or ...!". Also every time they send you a replacement MBP the 14 days begin the day you got the latest MBP.

Should not matter, my MBP has a customized harddrive. The product they ship customized or standard should not be faulty or broken. There is no way because you customized your MBP that they say warrenty, rules or laws doesnt apply to you anymore.

I have not read their rules specifically but I never had any problems, all my replacements were customized as my first order. If there is any problem and they say they will only repair, call once again and get someone else or get a refund and then reorder. And dont worry about restocking fee, how can they force you to pay a restocking fee if they acknowledge the MBP needs a repair, because you simply dont want to repair a brand new MBP?!

Its only after 14 days when you no longer can return the unit that they can force you to repair, thats why you should spare yourself a headache and always keep yourself within the 14 days limit.

Tell them its difficult for you to be without your MBP for longer periods of time and talk about alternative ways they can verify problems with screen. Ask them about local authorized apple service shop or if you can send in photos. As they are humans like you and me, nag nag nag also works, escalate and dont give up and they will in the end.

Many people at the Apple store cant see or refuse to see the light tint I was very lucky, the genius said bad screen and sent me up to the register, they first sent some one in the back to see if they had any 2.2 glossys(i called ahead and they said they had them) the guy came back and said we are all out of 15" MBP..another guy went in the back and came out with a 2.4 Matte, he asked me if i wanted it as a even trade, opened it and it was the whitest screen ever....so left happy with my 2.4 matte and only 40 bucks or so for tax.

You usually can make a deal with them that you keep the current MBP while waiting for a new one to arrive. They send out a form that you fill out and fax to them and then the replacement will ship. The form contains your name and whatever and then your credit card. This is because if oyu dont return the first MBP after receiving the new one they will charge for the new one =)

Because you have a stock MBP there should be any problems exchanging it at your local apple store, but make a call to After Sales or the local apple store first.

I went to the apple store exchanged and they were extremely helpful. One of the geniuses took a look and ok'd a replacement.

They let me look at the new unit before I took it home and I *thought* it looked ok in the store. Now I have it home I can once again see definate yellowing ... so now I feel like an idiot.

I'm going to use it for the next couple of days and see how it is, if its still annoying me I will take it back.

+1 for apple store staff in Manchester Arndale store being extra nice
-1 for me being an idiot and not looking properly!

sorry to everyone that is having the yellow screen problem, I would have imagined that this issue would have been bloody resolved considering its been almost 3 months since the release of these new screens...

btw just to verify with everyone, if I order a macbook pro customized and I have a faulty yellow screen can I return it, or am I stuck with repairs----

thanks everyone and good luck

It took Apple longer than 3 months to fix the random shutdown problem in non-Pro MacBooks last year. Most likely Apple is aware of the problem, has or is close to having a solution for new machines, and is in the process of figuring out a solution for those of us with yellowing on current machines.

If we're lucky like the RSDs MacBook users, Apple will find some crazy way to fix the problem in software. If they don't, I'm sure they'll have an official KB article shortly telling people to contact them if they experience this issue.

i really hope that you're right. you think there is a big chance that apple will fix our problem?

Alright guys...
I just got mine today ... it's a 2.2 15" matte screen, and Samsung !!
00009C68 was for samsung right ??

I have the yellowing issue at 1/3 of the bottom :( It's not really noticeable though unless you use one of those pictures to test it (don't do it if you can't see it then). I guess I don't care about it that much .... :D

I have a question ... there are 2 numbers on the box, I don't know which one indicates the week! the apple guy told me it's a week 33 because of this serrial number:
W873303xxxx

but there is another number : 8-8590xxxx29-x

is it week 29?? did he ******** me ?? he was pretty sure cause the iLife 08 is installed on it

You have a week 33 machine. The week number is the two digits after the 87 in your serial numbers.
could you post pictures so we could see how bad the yellowing is? Thanks

mine was like that and had to take it back, it drove me nuts :(

Any news on if the new models are coming in with this problem still?

Trying to find a 15" 2.2ghz glossy, but they are hard to come by. All 3 apple stores near me do not have any, and I was hoping their new shipments would come in without the problem.

Thanx buddy ... I will post a picture as soon as i can

mine was like that and had to take it back, it drove me nuts :(

to be honest ... It doesn't bother me at all ... I think it's more mentally.
I didn't even notice it before I see this picture:

I might take it back if they can just exchange it, but for reparing I'm not sure if it's worth it

by the way... did you get exchange?
