Perhaps we are all just reading the price wrong :)

I'm stunned, not for me at these prices.

I'd almost assume at this point they're either...

1. Considering how much people make off resales of their old hardware when upgrading.

2. New Windows brands like Microsoft are charging the same or more now for similar stuff, maybe trying to make an extra buck since people don't seem to be complaining as much about Windows based "premium" gear.

3. They're giving us more options than ever before, I can now spec the low end 15 inch anyway I want basically. I assume they're trying to make up the difference a bit since they aren't just making some extra cash from the upgrade process like before.

I don't like any of these reasons, but they are some to consider.

My last year MacBook Pro is going to have to last me for well until it dies on me. Can't justify these prices and I spend a lot on apple products each year.

Yes same here. This one will have to last another year at which time I'll be taking a good look over in the Dell XPS direction

2010 13" MBP with 512gb ssd and 16gb of ram. I think I'll keep my $2000 in my pocket for now. Those prices are a kick in the nut.

Just a reminder a MacBook Air is only 999$ and can do everything a MBP from 3 years ago could do.

The only reason to get a MBP is for Final Cut Pro X/Logic Pro X/Photoshop etc. Programs like that.

Unless you are doing those things you dont HAVE to get a MBP. If 3K is too much you can always get a 1K machine that is plenty powerful.

So to hate on this premium product is unfair. Would you hate on the 17 inch MBP? That was 3K.

I'm still using my high end model 2011 17" MBP which cost me £2,000 new + £200 for applecare = £2,200

The high end 15" MBPr is now £2700 + £110 for the dongles + £320 for applecare = £3,130

I'm looking to replace the battery for my 2012 rMBP, I was probably more inclined to replace it before yesterday's event, now I'm going to see if I can squeeze a few more years out of it

The new MacBook Pros are almost cheap in the States compared to the rest of the world - especially in Europe. The base 13-inch (with touch bar) is 2300 dollars and the base 15-inch is 3100 dollars here in Denmark.

It really is insane...!!!

The only downside of keeping our current mbp is the battery life. I just keep my 2010 mbp plugged in when not mobile and i could squeeze about 3 hours of use when unplugged which is still somewhat impressive for a 6 year old device with original battery. Crossing my fingers that the next Mac OS still supports the 2010 mbp.

Apple can keep their touchbar and touchID for now. I'll get it when the price drops to $1499 with touchbar.

That's why I think I may schedule a battery replacement for my MBP.

So was it worth staying home yesterday to watch Tim Cook and family announce new over priced not ready for purchase yet products?

Refurbished 15" MBP's down to 3 models to choose from. $2400.00 + Adapters $40.00. Wait for the new model in the refurbished area 6 to 8 months down the road

Not one to usually moan after a product reveal but the UK prices are disgusting. Couldn't even consider updating.

At this rate, another Macintosh is no longer in my future; especially having to pay at least $1800 (plus dongles) for a disposable appliance (lack of user-replaceable RAM, HD/SSD, battery).

That's what the Mac has become - a disposable appliance. I no longer consider it a computer.

It's been bliss for the past 5 years with my 2011 MacBook Pro, having been able to upgrade my RAM to 16Gb ($70) & HD to 1Tb ($90) -- enough to handle all my data and a nice Windows 10 VM.

It was a blockbuster day when I bought it, and I'm grateful to Apple for providing such an awesome machine.

I was about to learn Swift 3, since I have a Mac, iPhone, and iPad. But no longer.

But the love affair is over, when I don't feel good about spending a couple grand on a disposable appliance; and one that only gives you a wimpy 8Gb RAM and 256 SSD. Screw Apple!

I can understand people not wanting to pay the price of the new MBP, but I don't get how anyone can go from a MacBook to the XPS. Do you really believe anything on that laptop compares in quality to the MacBook? The quality of the screen? The trackpad? The build quality? The thermal system? The sound? They keyboard feel? Anything, really?

You get what you pay for, but for me, that XPS in which direction you're taking a good look is the overpriced one.

Think of the TouchBar as an extra inch of screen.

Then add the fact that e v e r y s i n g l e t h i n g about this new MBP is better than the last gen. Literally, EVERY THING, by A LOT.

Why is it unreasonable pricing?

Everything a lot better? We must have watched different events. I could list a lot of things wrong with this, but I'll just leave you with this that you can't argue around - battery capacities have dropped 25%. You can argue all you want feebly about skylake efficiency, but every other manufacturer is dong all it can to increase battery capacity while updating to the newest gen CPU's, and here Apple decides to drop it by 25%.

(In case you aren't familiar with what I am referring to, 15" battery capacity dropped from 99.5kwh to 75khw, 13" from 75kwh to 49kwh).

Comparatively, Dell just refreshed its XPS 13 with Kabylake, and do you know what they did? They added a few kwh to it, because you know, they didn't say "Well Kabylake is more efficient, so let me shave off some kwh).

I wouldn't mind spending money on a surface book because it offers more than the new Mbp.

Its about the worth of the product.

I love how people claim things like this arbitrarily, presenting their personal taste or opinion as an objective truth. So, I guess I'll start doing the same:

No, the Surface Book offers much less than the new MBP. The new MBP offers exceptional value.

It's about the worth of the product.

Apple balances capacity with weight, performance, size. They most likely took all these things in account to make the product that feels best, instead of just pushing numbers up. I'll wait for reviews until I presume anything about battery life.

How so? I own a SurfaceBook
With that, I get a SD port, easy detach power port, the model can include a dGPU (I chose the one that doesn't), it can be used like a tablet, has all day battery life its light and runs all my apps.

See the price increase for only a few tactile keys.. what will it be if they decide one day to do a touch screen laptop? Because it's the direction we are taking... and btw the trackpad should have been a touchscreen, that would open way more posibilities than a small bar at the top of the keyboard in my opinion.

it's only cash, if you can't afford it find something in your price range.

no one is forcing anyone to buy one.

if you can afford a toyota, buy a toyota, instead of complaining how much a new mercedes cost.

:D:D:D:D:D:D

Why do I always think people writing something like this is the person without money and is saving on everything in their life to get a Apple product. People with enough money, can see the scam!

Have you experienced alot of the bugs i've heard about with the surface book? Shutting down, restarting, blue screen, etc?

Why would you compare it to the Dell Precision 5510?

That's a workstation class laptop with NVIDIA Quadro graphics.

In my experience (in IT support for 10 years, etc. etc.) if you want the equivalent user experience out of a Windows-based laptop, you cannot match specs 1 for 1. Windows software (OS and apps) is historically crap by comparison to what gets released optimized for Mac. I can give you a hundred anecdotes, but you get the point. I am willing to bet that side-by-side, these laptops would yield similar performance for me. Note: I'll be using mine for video editing and Logic, not CAD workstation or anything cutting edge in its demands.

Does this sound crazy? It makes sense in my own experience but I'm not sure what others have found in their IT life.

Just making a point that you can arbitrarily claim anything. If you prefer the SurfaceBook, it's great.

I can equally claim that MacBook Pro is better because it has a true quad-core CPU instead of dual-core like the Surface Book (which I need for CPU intensive apps like Zbrush), it has Thunderbolt ports that Surface doesn't (that I need for my external drives), it has a better OS and runs all MY apps (yours doesn't run Affinity Photo, Alfred, Fantastical, etc.).

As I said - we can either start using words like "for my needs...." or "based on my taste...." - or just arbitrarily claim some thing is just better, like some people here do. Since everyone else seems to be doing the latter, I will start doing it too. So: MacBook Pro is better. There.
