Sad to say the best value and most normal laptop Apple has is the rMB... And i thought it was overpriced.

When you get touchscreen laptops for a couple of hundred these days a touchbar won't do. Also IBM did that first.

Did it take 14 pages for the obligatory car comparison post to emerge, or did a miss a few others along the way?

Not sure, i couldn't be assed reading all the posts.

All the big premium brands of all items, market their products at a premium price.

Thats why they are premium brands, no all people can afford the latest and greatest, while this latest pro, isn't tech speaking the greatest. it's still a dam good machine.

It's a solid upgrade, but not worth $2799 for the higher end model. Not even worth $2399 for the base model.

Anyone who wants a rMBP I recommend you look at discounted 2015 models or 2014 models.

Let's be real here, even at $2000 for the old MBP, there wasn't anything that could compete with the reliability, build, and user experience.

Yea, you can go ahead and buy a plastic Windows laptop for less, but the extra quality has always been why people enjoy Apple products.

It's one of the main reasons I buy Apple but it doesn't make it any less a kick in the teeth or arrogant to charge the same prices for two year old technology.

Eventually (if it isn't already happening) someone is going to come along and give people the same experience for reasonable prices and Apple will be back where they were in the 90's. Apple has a niche but that doesn't guarantee permanent relavence.

I'm not jumping ship yet, but I've thought about it more in the past year than ever before.

Price surprised me for sure, but I have been waiting since the original rMBP, so its still a no brainer upgrade for me.

What everybody keeps forgetting is that Apple is not about specs, never was and never will be. It's about USER EXPERIENCE, it's about LIFE-CHANGING EXPERIENCE.

Using any Apple product gives me butterflies in my stomach. Using any other brand makes me want to barf.

That's so outdated.

I've been a dedicated apple user for years, and even I admit windows 10 is finally stable, and dell and Microsoft are producing some amazing computers.

I'm even selling my 15" 2015 retina and iPad Pro in favor of my surface book, because it's simply the better product.

And I record audio, use large sound libraries, and run VMs.

There are even videos of people standing on the surface book and it being fine - meanwhile, my MacBook Pro wouldn't survive that.

Also...have you ever accidentally bumped a MacBook? Mine has a small knick in it after a bump - something my surface book survives without issue.

Members of this forum are arguably some of Apple's largest supporters yet I've seen so much push back and anger I'm taken aback.

Members of this forum are arguably some of Apple's largest haters. There is push back and anger for everything - from iPhone and iMac 5K to macOS and iOS. Just look at the topics across the forum, there are 7 negative views for one positive no matter the topic.

I'm with you. The Touch Bar is a neat development, but not overly practical... I no longer use my MacBook Pro as my primary computer, but when I did, I always used external keyboards with it. For my "professional" usage of my computer, I rely on the function (F1-F12) keys. I think adding the Touch Bar has a lot of potential, but it's taking a direction that is going to cut some people off.

And the price increase... just a few years ago Apple's hardware was actually price-competitive with the PC market. We had better value, because on top of having good hardware we were also getting far superior aesthetic and usability design. The PC market has caught up and offers a lot more.

iOS devices have probably become my most-used electronic device (I use my iPad all the time at work), but the Mac is still my central computing device. I'm locked to iOS and Mac because of how well they all play together. If the Macs really go off the deep end and I switch back over to Windows, the iOS devices will lose a lot of their appeal.

I don't know how well the new MacBook Pros will sell. If they sell poorly, I hope Apple will not see it as proof that they should further abandon the Mac line; rather, I hope they'll realize that sales are flagging because they don't really seem to be trying to be competitive in this field anymore. It's saddening.

That's cool. I have a high-end windows 10 desktop which I think is pretty cool, but I've never really trusted Microsoft's privacy or data security. I also don't really like the design of the surface book. I used one for a little while in the Microsoft store, and it didn't feel as sturdy or elegant as the MacBook Pro. The texture of it wasn't very high end.

Not trying to nitpick here, but if it wasn't for someone snooping in OSX's underlying code, it would have never been discovered that Spotlight queries were sent to Apple. That data is also sent to Microsoft and Google. And for a company that says they care about user privacy, they were quick to accept a $1B/year payment from Google so that iOS users were directed to Google on browser startup. Funny how that works. Who's to say macOS isn't sending any other data that gets by Little Snitch or other network monitoring software? For all Apple users know, all of their keystrokes could be recorded by Cupertino to help them engineer a better keyboard.

This used to be a very positive place. But a lot of the anger and disappointment isn't new members signing up to post negative opinions, it's longstanding members too. Even some of the moderators and site staff last night were expressing their sadness and disappointment about the direction Apple is moving in, and how they feel they are close to being priced out of buying Macs. Even I'm starting to share some of the negative sentiment too.

Fun Fact: The Broadwell 28W CPU/GPU combo in the "old" 13" MBP is faster than the 15W Skylake CPU/GPU Combo in the new Functionkey MBP. For only 3mm more, you have better connectivity and more speed. The battery life should be tiny bit less though.

This is one thin sexy machine, with 4 Thunderbolt tentacles coming out of it.

I can imagine Casey Neistat, iJustine, etc. trying to edit their vlog in a car or on a flight and wonder where their SD card dongle went... Oh crap, left it back at the hotel that they checked out.

no ones asking you to buy it...

if you can't afford it, buy a normal macbook or get a better job

from all the whinging on here, they all expect to drive mercedes for the price of a toyota.

you get what you pay for, even the new microsoft laptop is up there in price...
Way to expose your own inadequacies. Seriously, top notch.

Those with actual wealth and a desire to flaunt it do so with actions. Those lacking actual wealth, but having the desire to seem affluent, tend to boast more verbally. So to put it more bluntly, I'm calling your bluff.

The thing is, those with money tend to not get there by blowing it all on every shiny thing that comes out. The new MacBooks are a shiny thing. From the looks of all the negative threads here today? I'd say there are a good amount of individuals that can afford it, but aren't drinking the kool-aid this time around.

It's a laptop, not the birth of your child.

So much this. People want to worship Apple like some sort of flawless god, gracing them with something lifechanging. It's a piece of tech. The same kind of tech made by dozens of other companies. Is Apple's hardware quality? Generally. But it's never flawless.

The reality is that for some, all logic goes out the window, just for the sake of having the new shiny toy first. Like children wanting the newest popular toy.

its not about being able to afford it or not. It lies upon whether as an individual you think it is worth the price increase, which im sure a lot of people isnt exactly happy about.

My Aluminium Asus Zenbook UX305 is laughing at this outdated statement.

Might as well be disappointed that it's still made of aluminum instead of titanium, amirite.

I hope Apple does titanium one day. Jony would probably pronounce titanium as tittyanium.

Confused as to why he would say "tittyanium", who in the world says titanium like that?

it's only cash, if you can't afford it find something in your price range.

no one is forcing anyone to buy one.

if you can afford a toyota, buy a toyota, instead of complaining how much a new mercedes cost.

:D:D:D:D:D:D
This is a troll I guess but otherwise this is just stupid comment. I can afford a 10$ glass of water in a fancy restaurant, doesnt mean I dont feel like it's litteraly stealing my money.. same with this new macbook pro. Enough is enough.

Its like the saying about divorces, they are expensive because they are worth it.
