New MBP price = *speechless*

Yeah, no. Some really big price hikes here too

It's about a 250-300 price hike. For 512gb, 16gb RAM rMBP it was about 2400 (student discount). This is a price hike. I haven't decided if Im getting it. I am intrigued. But I would sell my rMBP first to offset the price on this model. There's a lot of turn offs:

1. no traditional usb ports
2. no sd card
3. purchase of dock (for traditional usb ports and an accessory for like another 300)

It is "allegedly" console specs for the video card

But does it justify the price? that's the large question. I may wait until next year

Doesn't the new Surface book or whatever costs something similar to the new MBPs?

Yep exactly. If Microsoft charges this much, it must be ok for Apple to do the same. And these new MBP's are the best MBP's Apple has ever made so a little more profit is justifiable.

IMHO Apple's portable Mac lineup has been made into a confusing mess. Overpricing new products and keeping older products at the same price points. A low-end MacBook Pro model that's half MacBook and half MacBook Pro? Or is the previous-generation low-end still the low-end MacBook Pro? It's like 90's Apple has made a comeback...

Crazy. And an included USB-C to USB-A adapter in the box should be an absolute necessity. Instead, $20 extra.

They are nice products but christ the prices are eye watering, especially here in the UK.
Apple really are pushing it, as much as I love my Mac I still use my W10 high end gaming rig daily and I feel W10 is a very good OS too. Dell has been absolutely smashing it recently with their excellent XPS line. Right now I'd be choosing an XPS 15 over the 15" MacBook Pro.

If they'd made the base (Touch Bar models) with 512GB SSD's and 16GB RAM then that would've been a little more palatable and come on Apple, storage is dirt cheap.

Yes, a Surface Book with Core i5, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage is $1,699, only $100 less than a MacBook Pro with the same specifications (and yes, I realize one can become a tablet, one has Touch ID, et cetera; but purely based on main specs, they're similarly priced).

I should say 'reasonable' with the typical Apple premium. I'm not saying it's directly comparable.

I'd far rather have a new thin laptop with a 1060. The NVidia 10 series are the desktop models only with lower clock speeds in some. Laptops with 1060's are as powerful as a desktop GT 980.

It's even worse for us with the post Brexit currency adjustments. I think it's going to kill Mac sales in the UK.

Buddy had been saving for one for over a year, had his card ready to buy one. We were both excited, prices hit and it was like a bombshell, think he's going for an XPS 15 now. Which is a shame as he was really excited about getting his first Mac.

Microsoft just released the Microsoft Studio, it's like an iMac competitor. The Surface book and Surface pro was released this month but a year ago, I think they'll be updating it soon again.

It's great that they innovated that needless toybar, but I think everyone would have been happy with a reasonable pricepoint and new tech/capacities under the hood.

I'm pointlessly ranting now. Sigh.

My hope is that we'll see an adjustment, if sales continue to decrease and/or refurbs are more down to earth price wise

What you will see happen is the used market prices go sky high ala Mac Mini 2014 and Apple will ignore updates for 1-2 or more years in a row and continue to make their car.

Nothing will seriously happen unless Apple sales start crashing.

A mess of a MacBook line up, zero updates to any desktop Macs and letting LG make 4K/5K displays for them... Now I really feel like they don't care about the Mac as much as they used to.

Unfortunately I can see a lot more people making similar decisions. I was already expecting a price rise because of the low Pound but the further increases coming from Apple have killed it.

Yes I figured £400 would be added to the 15" £1999 model, but it is now £2699 far exceeding what I expected in total. Of course I wasn't factoring in price hikes in the US to be added on top of the brexit tax, but even I am struggling to justify paying these prices. And you know how much I love buying everything Apple makes.

Bitter and petty doesn't play well.

You're right, we should be happy and thrilled that you will allow yourself to be ripped off, and post about it for everyone to see!

Hey buddy, I got a bridge in Brooklyn, I'll set it to ya for a low price

I was ready pay the high prices, but then I saw that the RAM maxes out at 16 GB which is not enough for my needs today, let alone 2-3 years from now.
