17inch is pushing the portability factor, imo

Maybe, but I know a lot of people with cheap 17s or 15s as their only computer. This is one of those ads that is either spot on or completely off base depending on the situation. Obviously, not ever who would benefit from a 17" screen (or OSX for that matter) needs a $2800 premium thin and light job. On the other hand, if you're looking at a higher end notebook that $600 HP is not even close to on the radar.

PS. Pay no attention to the guy walking in front of the "Mac store" in the ad.

Also pay no attention how he is only 3 steps further ahead when she comes out of the store vs. when she went in.
Holy crap i just went back and saw that, she literally took a step into the place and walked right out!

Screen size doesn't make a computer better....

It's quality, one word Microsoft doesn't understand. That's why we have windows. Everything must be balanced. Good and bad. Guess what Microsoft is?

The fact of the matter is if you only have $1,000 to spend on a computer you are more than likely going to end up buying a PC. And PCs aren't bad if you don't muck around with them or visit bad internet sites and have it hooked up to an ethernet connection (wireless networking is why I switched).

I couldn't afford a Mac that resembled the PC I bought when I used to use them. This is just the truth.

Is my user experience better with a Mac? Yes.
Do I recommend Macs? Yes.
Would I switch back? No.
If I had only $1,000 to spend would I buy a Mac? No.

Nope. Why would they? Apple's doing better than almost any tech company out there and they're an industry buzzword. Plus, they make ~30% margins, which means they're not in danger of going out of business anytime soon (they've had very good fiscal management too, which helps).

jW

Their music department is why they are doing so well, take that away and they arent much better off than they were in the 90s. Mac is definitely not a buzzword, iphone is, ipod is, itunes is, but mac? that word is kind of scary.

i love the apple kool aide effect in this thread

you also said you would never buy a Mac again. Why are you here then? Isn't there a PC Rumors.com? Go find out the 214 iterations of Windows 7 you can look forward to. May I recommend the Home I'm A PC Consumer Standard Bill Gates Jerry Seinfeld XP Edition?

You can't discount form though. Everybody pays a premium for owning things that look "nice". If this didn't hold true we would all live in Soviet-style Housing blocks, everything would have very similar labels, etc.

if you're working with a product a few hours a day over the course of two years, it's worth attempting to quantify the idea of having what you are working with being visually appealing.

Again I must ask. If you are "working" on your computer multiple hours a day for two years don't you want it to perform at the best of its abilities? All you look at is the screen!!! Is this crazy town. I need a desktop for work and I need it to be as fast as I can afford. Why would I buy a computer that is slower (make my day longer) so I can stare at a screen that houses my computer?

Well you can buy a PC, get the right one and hack OSX onto it and then you'll have the best of both worlds! :D

the fact that Lauren admits that Mac people are just so much cooler than PC people makes my day:):apple:

The problem there is that anybody that call themselves Mac or PC people are nerds and not cool. So there you have it either way you loose.

Windows is a train wreck. And as long as I have a choice, I will only use a Mac. Why? OS-X, iLife, etc.

But if this ad campaign causes Apple to lower their prices, I'll say, Thank you Microsoft.

Wow, that "real person" actress bought a 17" low resolution laptop with the latest cheap low-quality components on the market and which runs the latest and most horrible version of the world's worst OS for just 700$! That really fully convinces me, I'll buy a PC right away!

Retards.

Let's see... I want a cute girl, must be wearing a green scarf. Oh, and she must be a cheap date too. I know those are rather arbitrary specs, but I'm following Daddy Bill's direction here.

Let's see, first I went to the Apple store and hung around. Saw a couple cute girls there with green scarves. Both shot me down, cold. I guess I'm not cool enough to date a Mac girl.

So I drug my sorry butt to Best Buy. The place was totally cash! First girl I went up to was hovering over a lame HP PC. She was all agog over the thing. Seems she found that she can work on her zits in the reflection of the shiny screen. The resolution was terrible, the battery life sucked, but what the heck she could work on her complexion while watching a vampire chick flick. (Try doing that on a much cheaper TV).

"Of course" she'd go out with me, she said. "I have no minimum standards."

Then she was all over me when I told her I had a Mac.

"Get a room," someone said.

Their music department is why they are doing so well, take that away and they arent much better off than they were in the 90s. Mac is definitely not a buzzword, iphone is, ipod is, itunes is, but mac? that word is kind of scary.

And Microsoft is only doing well because of their OS department. Vista is definately not a buzzword, xbox is, office is, but vista? that word is kind of scary.

Ignore how I didn't actually cite any facts, just like you.

Ignore how I ignore most of the company for just one part of it, just like you.

Ignore how the first sentence has nothing to do with the later sentences, just like you.

Lets revel in the ignorance of it all!

You do know that the 17" MBP weights about the same as most 15" PC laptop??? Not massive. I use my 17" MBP every day.
Well, I was referring more to the height & width. Every time I sit down with a 17" laptop, it just feels too big.

Most people are not pro photographers or DJs, and so an ad comparing 17" laptops is sort of a irrelevant because most people will not be buying 17" laptops. And pros will not be racing to get the cheapest 17" laptop they can get. Whether it's Apple, Sony, Alienware, whatever, a pro 17" laptop is probably going to run you over $1000 — though still well under Apple's cost, so why they focused on a sub-$1000 17" laptop is sort of beyond me.
