I was told that all data from your account gets deleted (mails, idisk) if you dont renew your account within 1 or 2 weeks, is that true?

Humm

Its all a bit underwhelming.

I bought it so that I could post photos and movies but most of my family have problems accessing the albums. Usually they are verrrrrryyyy slow to load or download the images so people have asked me to stop posting them there.

I hardly ever use the e-mail and the space (GB) allocated to you are just not enough.

The Find my iPhone app lists three phones under my account. One it can locate (mine) the other two dont ever have a location and are red for not online. Strange. I did pre-order two iPhone 4's but surely thats not them.

Well, the update is nice, and I am happy that they are spending time on mobie me. I am not sure that I care much though, considering that most users probably never log into the web
mobile me unless they force it. We have mail.app on the mac, and mail on the iPhone/ipad.

Oh well.

Hey guys,

I'm on a trial of mobile me. I signed up yesterday. I appreciate the swiftness of the new mail app, but something is driving me nuts!

For some reason, the time zone defaults to another place. Is there any way to change the time zone of me.com?

(dot)Mac was the first pay incarnation. iTools was the original free version.

Wikipedia entry.

:apple::apple:

i loved my itool and .mac servicw before the $99 charge. But come one at least be honest. Google and google voice and now EVO and droid are killing us. I have had every iphone generation, but my EVO will be coming tomorrow, and I will be traveling with my MBP and ipad on wifi hotspot at 4g speeds thanks to my new phone. I will keep my iphone 3gs (dumping data service) until iphone 5 goes 4g, thx apple and AT&T

I wish they would allow Find My iPhone to work for sub accounts in a Family Pack. (ie find sub accounts from the main account without having to have the main account on all devices or the sub account password.)

Firstly; it is for more than just finding a lost iPhone, what about tracking your family member? Secondly; I suspect Apple will make Mobile me free soon. I could be wrong on 2.

I do acknowledge that there's more to it than just that. As I stated in my comment: "The cost to value on all the features don't justify[...]."

To find family members? I use Loopt if I feel the need to know where my girlfriend is, or where I'm meeting her at. It not only works with her, but some of my friends use the app so it works beyond the "family" circle. Good alternative. Free.

Email, Contacts, Calendar? I have Gmail set-up with Exchange to sync all that for me. Good alternative. Free

Gallery? I upload to Flickr from my phone. Good alternative. Free.

iDisk? I don't have the need to use such service, but if I did I can find numerous services out there that do it as well.

If I were to ever lose my iPhone, it is password-protected. Someone can keep it and eventually unlock the phone by trying numerous attempts to crack the code, but when they can't crack it, the phone unlocks and wipes all the data from the phone. The same as MobileMe would, but just with more effort from the person who has possession of the phone.

So my point is that Find My iPhone is really the feature that adds real value to this service for most people, and if it were cheaper, people would buy the service. That's really what I meant to say.

Anyway, I do hope that it becomes free someday, but in reality, I wouldn't mind paying a few bucks for it because having all that in one place makes it just a bit easier... just not $99, a year.

Nice new interface I guess...

Well, the interface is much improved, but it still seems pokey and not very crisp. Also, it does not play nice with IE - which I think is a mistake - I use my MobileMe primarily when I am at work or on someone elses PC to get me mail! - MobileMe should be 100% functional with IE - getover it Apple. That really appears to be it.

I still think iDisk is crap ... DropBox is fantastic ....

If it was better, I would be happy to pay a reasonable fee.

I did a couple of trials before, but didn't think it was worth the money. $30-$40 a year would be acceptable, but $90? No way. For me this service is very close to being great if they improved it a little bit and chopped the price down. Right now I would not recommend this service to friend or family because it just isn't worth it when the same services are available online for free. I think everyone would like to have these cloud apps/services consolidated into a unified experience that works well and would pay a little for that benefit, but this is just too expensive. I mean, we already paid extra for the Apple experience, why are they sticking it to you with this?

Even if it was reasonably priced, the services left something to be desired for me. Have they changed?

iDisk
The site and the services on MobileMe are good, but frankly the iDisk service is inferior compared to Live Sync/Mesh that Microsoft offers for free. With that you can select ANY folder to sync to the cloud, not just one separate folder container. I don't want to have to make the decision to put documents in my ~\iDisk\Documents folder, I just want to put them in my ~\Documents folder and know that they are always in the cloud. I would like the ability to filter based on type and or size so I don't waste my space.

iWork
If you edit iDisk files on the iPad/iPhone and have changes automatically synched, that would be useful and attractive.

When I first got my iPod Touch the "find my iPhone" option worked pretty well but now it has me a good 5 miles from the actual location of my iPod.. silly. At least the other important options work such as send alert and play sound.. hope to never need to use the wipe option.

Regarding the new interface.. I agree with some of the other posts that I have read. Apple has made what was a simple interface into a much more complex one.. a drop down would have been much better but even a drop down added in an action to what was a simple click before. Although.. when I do go into the online me.com it is usually just to check mail so I don't think it is that big of a deal.

I'm loving this. All the tools look just like the apps and are much faster. Mail is a little slow on deleting multiple emails but the overall experience is much improved.

Played with it for a while longer... Other have already said this but wanted to agree.

1. Should be locate my iOS Device not iPhone
2. That's it? Just an interface change and some speed improvements? Why not more storage? Would be nice if my iDisk was = to my iPod Touch so that I could do backups of all my data.

I'll believe it when I see it for $30... lowest I've seen is around the $58 mark on a "Buy It Now" price.

Just tried out the new webmail and it crashed twice in a row on Safari 5.

People need to stop complaining about it not being free, its only $30 for 1 year on ebay which is really cheap! for a great service.

For some reason I can't login to mobile me it keeps saying my password is wrong. So I reset and still keeps saying the password is wrong.
Tried on multiple computers and browsers.

Broken, broken and just plain...wrong!

So I'm a long time Apple customer, long time Mobile Me user.

One of the key things I use Mobile Me for is accessing my personal email at work. For security reasons, I can't use my iphone at work, but our policies do allow access to personal email via the web browser on our desktop PCs.

I signed up for the Beta test of the new Mobile Me a month or so ago. I found there was a problem using the reply, reply all and forward function on mail under IE 8. So I reported it to Apple, including the error codes thrown, to give their developers a chance to fix - after all, that's the point of beta testing, correct?

I then switched out of the beta version and back to the old mail so that I could continue to actually use the service.

Fast forward to today, and Apple switches on the new, improved Mobile Me,...and the reply, reply all and forward functions STILL DON'T WORK UNDER IE 8....grrrrr!!!

I don't mind paying for Mobile Me. In fact, I'd rather pay than use a free service on the understanding that as a paying customer I am entitled to demand a certain level of, well, service from Apple.

And to anyone who suggests that I "just download Safari or Firefox", understad that I work in a medium-high security corporate environment where you can't "just download" anything.

Generally, I love Apple and support their push into mobile devices (make no mistake, this redesigned Mobile Me is all about iOS touch). But they really are in danger of seriously annoying customers who want to use their devices and services in other environments/situations. It's pretty short-sighted.

/rant...

Looks like some good developments but it still lacks that killer feature or unrefusable price that would make me go for it. I don't mind the idea of paying for this stuff, I just don't want to pay quite so much for it. Or want some really killer features for the same money.

about eight bucks a month? so less than two drinks at Starbucks. I used Find My iPhone ONCE and got my phone back - it was priceless to me.
