I have also noticed the new music app is killing my battery. It use to draw little battery but now it drops much faster why???

Apple music is fantastic . The UI is complex and does take some time getting used to but its amazing. I don't have spotify in my country so I don't have a good streaming service to compare to, however I always prefer to download and listen to songs offline since the broadband speeds arent great in my region and the telecom operators keep ridiculous data caps. I traditionally prefer classic rock but the suggestions given in the music app were so spot on that I found myself listening to new bands that I hadn't even heard of before. The audio quality is great (particularly remastered versions of classic albums). Apple always over prices its hardware in India (an iphone 6 plus is more than $1000 here ) but for once Apple hit the sweet spot with the pricing of 2$ per month.
iOS 8.4 is super smooth so far and no crashes at all on my 6 plus. Now wish they would fix that third party keyboard bugs though.....

The new Music app created a whole bunch of duplicate entries under My Music for albums that I have purchased in iTunes Store in the past. This is probably because I edited the Album Artist field for those albums to keep only the main artist. What's really weird, the duplicate entries don't contain entire albums, only a few tracks.

Also, for some albums that are downloaded on my iPhone, the app does not show all tracks, and you have to press "Show Complete Album" to see an entire list of tracks.

I agree on the overall feeling: It's a horrible mess.

I actually appreciate Recently Added because I can never remember the last thing I added. I agree that it could be smaller though.

I did notice today that Up Next is limited to 20 tracks. I don't like how it has to redraw the list, bothers my eyes actually.

Even the basic music player view is poorly designed! Look at the menu bar in my screenshot. I also don't like how volume and song progress bars are now hidden unlike you swipe up on the mini player.

On the up side, search functionality is much better and custom images for playlists make me happy.

Why do software developers feel they need to fix things that aren't broken, especially Apple. I hate the new player in IOS 8.4. Gone is the ability to shuffle an artist and playlist. I own all the music I want to play. I have no desire to subscribe to any music service, therefore I have no need for the features that drive that type of listening. Instead of adding this for the streaming listeners, they removed all the features that I loved about the Apple music player. I have taken out of my dock and replaced it with ecoute for now. If there is a better player, I am open to suggestions, but Apple's player sucks!

FWIW every version of Apple music was bad starting with iOS3... I mean how hard is it to get the artwork right and not mess up after every upgrade? It worked under Windows 98 but Apple in 2015 still can't do it?

Amazon's Music player is the way to design a music app.

I have only played with it on my MBP 10.11 beta and haven't had much issue though I do think it could use some work. I'm pretty confident it will improve with time and feedback. Haven't tried the iOS version since it won't be available till next weeks beta update but I can see if it's trying to do everything the OS X version does it'd be pretty messy.

FYI...

I just finished writing a wiki post about alternative music players. Lets keep this post sane and not littered with talk about other players as it starts getting confusing!

If you have a question about something specific you relied on, and want to see if it's there to use in another app, feel free to ask.

I've also provided links to other threads discussing said players separately.

In the settings I have Apple Music turned off. This removes the "For you" tab and a bunch of other guff but doesn't remove references to starting stations.

The "radio" tab remains, which for the most part is fine, but it still includes links/images for all the other curated stations instead of only showing Beats1. If I try to start one of those stations I get a confusing error saying that it cannot be started right now. Presumably this is simply because it knows I don't have an Apple Music account.

What the app should do is either remove those stations entirely or at the very least grey them out and if clicked the error should say "You need an Apple Music account to play this station".

A similar issue is the redundant options in the hamburger/dots menu for every single artist/album/song. Without an Apple Music account I cannot use this feature and I get an ambiguous error as well. These options should be hidden unless someone is a premium account holder.

The 'Make songs available offline' option appears on tracks that are already on the device.

I don't. That must have been before Steve Jobs returned to Apple...

Yup. Apple customers have always been beta testers to one degree or another as long as I can recall. Guess I do t mind it since I've stuck with them for so long.

First, I just did not like it. Now I hate it. Here's the reason:

Actually, it's even worse than I thought: now I can't sync Apple Lossless files in my iTunes Library with the iPhone because they have been matched with low quality files on the cloud. Of course, I can disable iCloud Music, but I'm not going to use the service if I can't save music for off-line use. I also don't need the app that's built around the streaming service. Goodbye, Apple Music. I hate you, I hate you, I hate you.

You should not confuse Apple Music itself with the Music app. I also like Apple music, I like the beats 1 radio station and so on. I am happy Apple finally got into the business.
But the app itself just isn’t up to iOs standards. It’s complicated to use with many unnecessary functions that you can’t disable.
I am used to much better usability from apple and am very surprised the music app turned out like it did. I hope there will be a major overhaul soon.

This is so true a music app should not be this complicated and there is too much unneeded stuff either in menus you don't need if you don't subscribe to wasted screen space.

Just look at the screen shot above the bottom view contains the running time, track name, back/pause/forward, slider bar, repeat track button etc....all of this is literally half of your screen. Is that really necessary? Look at all the extra dead space in between those entries. Yes we need the entries but why does it need to take up half the screen?

Also the recently added seems to be more important on the main screen than your library. So am I going to play recently added forever? It's twice the size of my library which is right below it.

In addition you mentioned maybe they will overhaul it, I think many of us having been waiting for a worthy overhaul since they took away the music app in OS 6.

I am running into an interesting and perplexing issue with the new Music App. I do not use Apple Music and have it turned off. Under the "My Music" tab when you click the red pull down to select Artists, Albums, etc, I have the show iTunes purchases set to off. The problem is, they're still showing..(sometimes). I haven't changed any settings, all of a sudden, there they are. If I close out the app on the app switcher and reopen it, they're gone. Then they'll reappear. I don't get it. I know these tracks shouldn't be there because they do not have the little iphone symbol in the list and some of them I don't even have in my itunes anymore. This is crazy.

This was a whole new music app along with the new Apple music there is going to be a lot of bugs I'm sure there will be a few more updates from Apple in the next few weeks if you can wait. Unfortunately the customers get to be the beta testers. It's always been that way.
