- Stereo? Why, when the separation will mean you don't notice.
- I don't buy that design at all.
- The iPad sound is actually pretty good already (yes I owned one - no I don't form an opinion based on a store test!)
- I expect this iPad will be minor changes externally but an overhaul internally (512MB mem, beefed video hardware, faster CPU). With cameras.

Have you? If so post your results, otherwise it's just noise.
As he said, plenty of pro magazines have tested them and they don't hold up. It's not noise, it's pretty well known.

That's what I'm guessing as well.

a bigger speaker? what about STEREO speakers? i find it pretty lame for being a premium product and only having mono sound.

That's silly. In such a little device you will have no real stereo separation no matter what you do. Then you'd need four speakers to handle when you rotate the device, as well.

With all of this talk about stereo speakers...it seems to me that Apple ought to partner up with Bose on some of this stuff.

Bose makes crappy stuff - why should Apple partner with them?

As people in the sound industry say, "If it's got no highs or lows, it's gotta be Bose"

heh heh. Indeed. There is a reason Bose never wants to tell you any actual acoustic specs.

What's the point of stereo speakers that close together anyway?

Exactly. Some people fall for anything. "Galaxy Tab is better! It has an extra speaker that I imagine must somehow make things sound different even though given how close together the speakers are in comparison to how far they are from my ear, there is no separation!"

I want the new iPad to have VERY MINOR revisions. Gen 1 needs to be 90% of Gen 2 (yes, because I have one). It hasn't been "on top" long enough. We don't need something to totally decimates the current iPad.

I DON'T want to see:
- a new screen (higher res)
- a USB port
- a much faster processor

Minor revisions. Save the big changes for next year.

a) the new iPad is coming next year.
b) why would a higher res screen be a bad thing?
c) 2012 will be Apple's year for 4g, makes sense to get cameras and retina next year.

Ha Ha. Sound like somebody will feel left out if those things are incorporated.

Stereo Speakers !! ..... !! srekaepS oeretS

Or at least usb and an sd card slot.

Let the case speculation mania commence! One wonders how many different case mockups will lead to stories about the specs of the next iPad in the next month.

It's gonna get a little annoying isn't it?

Fingers crossed for a near-CES announcement. We can then wait patiently for the March release. (yes, I sold my iPad in prep and now miss it like a lost limb).

As if Bose (or anyone else) could circumvent the laws of physics and overcome the physical limitations imposed by a .01 cu. ft. enclosure to achieve 20-20k response using conventional loudspeakers.

I'm really not interested in a larger speaker. They need to do two speakers for stereo sound. Even if you're in portrait mode and the sound is coming out of the top and bottom, it will still sound better than sounding coming out of just one end.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Silly people, if you have stereo speakers, lets say in landscape you are going to have a speaker that goes up and one donw in portrait, making the left right panning pointless.

Bose's sub is so bad, they are not even allowed to call is a subwoofer.

Notice, its called a "Bass Module."

The average Bose customer has not idea that brands like Klipsch or Paradigm exist.

One of the main things to remember is these mockups aren't designed by "Mac" people. They don't get it.

I think the larger speaker design in the iPad is hideous, and a far cry from what Apple may develop if changing the speaker design was in their plans.

I could predict them adding a second speaker on the left side, or possibly make that space available for a 2nd microphone, but I don't expect the size of the speaker to increase.

What if they made the iPad out of two pieces of glass, like the iPhone4? That'd be a welcomed revision, IMO.
