Chris,

I'm currently on O2 Text and Web and I changed to this tariff when there was an offer (in November 09 I believe) of unlimited texts and internet for £15 a month topup.

Can I still use this after the iPhone 4 comes out and indeed after October when the data plans change?

Thanks

Thanks for the advice. So, if I go to the O2 shop tomorrow and change to a Simplicity for iPhone contract, I will get unlimited data, not only until October but after then as well?

If you sign up for a 12 month simplicity tariff I believe you will. However, chances are that after those 12 months, an unlimited data simplicity tariff will not be an option - given what they are doing with the other tariffs.

The only way to get unlimited data in the long run it seems, is to stay on your rolling contract - but then you are paying a lot of money without the benefit of a subsidised phone.

Chris, that's utter bollocks.

In two months I've used 2.3GB of data downstream. I don't watch YouTube movies, use streaming music apps or receive e-mails with large attachments. I don't download mp3s on my phone from the iTunes store, and I don't tether.

I *do* have my e-mails set to 'Push', I do use a few apps such as National Rail times, Google Maps for directions, a few newspaper apps, Natwest banking app and a guitar-tab app. I use Safari occasionally to browse a few web pages.

Don't believe all the statistics your superiors are feeding you because they're plainly a lie.

Now, I shan't get too het up about this since I still have 22 months of 'unlimited' data remaining. What I object to most is that you are charging customers the same, or more (no more inclusive MMS either?!) and providing less.

Less service, less uptime, less bandwidth, less signal.

Garry

I am sorry you are not happy.

I am concerned about your usage because if you only do what you have said that is to high and may be a problem somewhere.

Please contact customer support

Regards Chris

Chris,

I have about 8 months left of my contract and I'm looking to buy out early using the limited time offer.

How do I go about keeping the same number?

Cheers

No, I don't need to - and if I did have a problem you can rest assured I'd be a damn sight better at sorting it out than your call centre monkeys.

O2-Online is Chris, a Sales Professional?

Ok Chris from Online Support - hang on, a memo went round recently in our dept reminding us not to express ourselves online

Hi Robbie,

Unfortunately PAYG Tariffs will change 1 October 2010 to unlimited WIFI only

Well, with the normal download speeds I get on average from O2 with virtually no 3G coverage I could barely download 500MB in a month even if I left it on all the time!

No but seriously, O2 are THE WORST network for iPhone as they have the poorest 3G coverage by a country mile, and then to pull this stunt. I am afraid all that they will see of me is dust and I only migrated to O2 for the original iPhone as I had no other serious choice.

O2, NAFF OFF!

Loving Chris' attempts at justifying the BS that O2 is trying to pull.

I know it's only his job, but seriously. We are not stupid enough to see through it.

We lost minutes, we lost inclusive MMS, we lost international inclusive texts, we lost half our data allowance, and we lost either 6 months contract or £5 (Whichever way you want to look at it).

Yes some of these changes haven't JUST been announced, but they've come into play in the past 6 months and as a result, only morons would stick with O2.

As i've said, even if all other networks follow O2's money grabbing pathetic approach to customer satisfaction, I would still opt away from O2 - they don't stand for what they once stood for.

I can only see this hurting O2.

i reckon other carriers will pounce on this opportinity now that o2 have crippled their contracts.

That means more money for other carriers which will hopefully mean they can spend money to support the next gen phones! :D win win and lose for o2 situation!

O2.... tut tut

Chris is Doin All he can to help everyone on here, ofcourse not everyones gona be happy, yes im disappointed but im not going to let it stop me having one of these babys!

Good evening Chris,

Can you confirm that this applies to all PAYG customers, including those who are already PAYG customers using the iPhone, ie, some 2G, 3G and 3GS users prior to this announcement?

Have you provided any identification of yourself being an O2 employee within the appropriate department, to us, or the staff at MacRumors, to protect ourselves, and potentially yourself?

Hi,

It would be no different to upgrading so your number will stay the same.

Chris. If you're still around.

All this tariff talk is all well and good, but what we need now more than anything is definite handset prices.

Can you give any indication as to when we'll find out?

Many thanks for answering the questions you have so far.

Would O2-Online (chris) be able to confirm that the new iPhone will not cost any more than the 3GS currently does on PAYG?

I think the PAYG customers will be dissapointed enough in knowing the new iPhone PAYG tariff limits texts to 500 (down from unlimited) and of course caps data allowance to 500mb (down from unlimited).

Long shot I know lol.

Hi,

No official prices have been released yet.

Regards Chris

Hi,

Could O2 Chris please tell me if as a 3GS contract holder, am I allowed to buy the new handset on PAYGO and just put my sim in once it's cut down or exchanged to a Micro Sim?

Hi Chris,

I'm really sorry to ask, but I'm concerned that I'm not going to be able to pre-order the iPhone online before the 24th, is this the case, or are you unable to say right now?

Just concerned that if I have to queue up on the day, I won't get the phone I was set on (like with the 3G a couple of years back).

PS: I have to say that I feel quite let down with the new tariffs, not because of the data allowance, but more because I'll be getting less value for money based on what I use.

Thanks.

Chris,

If my current 'Unlimited' Data is actually 1Gb, why aren't the contracts all now 1Gb? I use about 1Gb a month, and you can screw paying whatever outrageous amount you want for that.

If before June 24th i switched to the Current Simplicities with Unlimited texts AND Unlimited Data, would i still loose my data as of October 2010? What if i didn't change at all, i'm fairly sure you cannot downgrade anyones contract.

Also, if suddenly all the networks counter this change and offer far better contracts for the price, would O2 adjust theirs inline? I've been with O2 all my life, but i've gotta go with who gives me the best deal & Coverage (Something you are REALLY lacking with at the moment)

He's not helping anyone. He hasn't given out any information that isn't already publicly available.

If he is what he says he is, then he's either getting paid to sit there replying to these questions or he's doing this in his own time without the knowledge of his employers.

O2 customers have every right to be pissed off with how they're being treated at the moment. If O2 want to impose restrictions or charge more for certain aspects of their service then they should reduce the base price of the contracts they're offering. It's simple.

I, and others on this forum, have a right to air our grievances to him in whatever way we see fit. The last thing we should be doing is 'taking this on the chin.'

Chris would you know what way i have to upgrade my simplicity contract when i pre-order? i dont know where to do i through 02 or apple,

I asked the same question. Chris said they will give us a free MicroSim to use with our current contract.
