looking into Three.co.uk at the mo - i've got one of there mifi dongles with my ipad and it's spanking - so if they offer iphone4 with a better rate then o2 - i'm jumping ship to three

O2 seem to be getting hit pretty hard on Twitter, maybe we should start an online protest.

This happened last year lol, remember all the hate because of people not being able to leave their contracts early. They took a beating last year - didn't they back down on something?

Isn't anyone bothered by the fact MMS is now not included in the unlimited text plan, and they're now charging 20p/MMS?

Not cool, O2, not cool!

That's one of the things that really annoyed me. That and for the same monthly cost and same contract length my inclusive minutes will drop by 50%.

The drop from unlimited to 500MB of 3G data won't affect me but that is beside the point. They know that all those who's contract's have ended in the last 6 months eg all the iPhone 3g customers who couldn't upgrade to the 3GS without paying stupid upgrade fees will upgrade to the iPhone 4 and decided to bend us all over and screw us. Well unless there is a sudden change of tariff from o2 I'm off to Orange or Vodafone. I don't care if they tariffs are the same as o2's it's the principle of the matter.

not at the minute, but what about all those lovely new features and current and future iPhone apps that will lap up data?

i.e. bbc iplayer, sky player, facetime google docs, imovie,

didnt Apple say that data plans had to be unrestricted so as to not stifle adoption or development?

data caps will stifle development, and we'll be back in the dark ages again.

O2 just broke the iPhone.

or get a micro sim cutter off ebay and make a micro sim yourself! there is no difference between the two aside from size.
Not true!

One example:

Current SIMs and mini SIM only hold account data for telephony, they cannot have a data accounts attached to the SIM, it has to be to the phone handset. They were designed for phones in the 1990's, not for today's technology. Hence why you have to connect to iTunes when you first put a SIM in to the handset, or if it is another make of phone, this has to be done in-store. Micro SIMs you can point a data account at the SIM itself, this is why you have had these SIMs in systems such as security systems or MiFi for years, as it isn't dependant on which device the SIM is in.

Micro SIMs also hold much more data, have different encryption, can hold different account information (required for subscription based data service, like in the iPad or for MiFi dvices) to name a few.

All Orange and 3 have to do is match these poor tariff's and they'll gain a boatload of customers due to their much better network coverage.

I have to disagree with that statement, I travel a lot and when in Cardiff and Exeter the 02 coverage is excellent.

I guess with the T-Mobile and Orange merger we will see a very strong network that should never go down.

I like o2, I don't know why there's just something about it.

Shawn

Then wait for the deluge of whingeing threads to the effect "I've cut my SIM card and now it doesn't work!! What can I do??" :D

TRUE; but just ring O2 and say you lost the sim or it is not working... (i am not selling these cutters by the way; just offer info etc )

I agree, at the moment it doesn't affect me, but just got a slingbox and with the World Cup coming up will be using a lot more data.

I will correct you

I undesrstand it's not 500MB it is 1GB for iphone :

"All our smartphone tariffs for iPhone include Visual Voicemail, up to 1GB of UK data and unlimited Wi-Fi."

Correct me if i'm wrong

I think the key words are up to 1gb meaning that this is the maximum on the higher tariff. On the lower tariffs you will only get 500mb.

i am sorta pleased that o2 are pricing them selfs out here - here is my iphone 3g speed on o2 3g and then connected to three's mifi 3g in the same spot in my office

i'll let you work out which ones which ;)

Me too! In my experience, O2's coverage, particularly in the SW is very good.

I'm looking forward to even better coverage from O2 when all these moaners/heavy users cancel their contracts for pastures new - and then overload those networks!! ;)

Twitter is over capacity. Too many tweets!

O2 have really upset their customers this time, they have lost me and many thousands more, o2 twitter has stopped...

Too many tweets! Please wait a moment and try again.

Hmmmmm... If you buy the iPhone 4 on PAYG you'll be moved to a new plan? Technically you've upgraded to a new phone.
No, you aren't upgrading in a contract sense - it is only if you sign up to a new airtime agreement as part of your upgrade that you will be stung with the change. If you buy the iPhone on PAYG and use your existing SIM then your airtime agreement is completely unchanged.

So would requesting a Micro Sim be seen as "upgrading" the handset?
No - again that is not changing your airtime agreement, merely the SIM your handset uses to connect to the network. If O2 were to try and insist on you signing up to a new airtime agreement in exchange for a microSIM (and I can't imagine they would) then you could simply cut your existing SIM down yourself (or get a cutter to do it) - the only difference is the amount of plastic surrounding the chip in the middle.

All those people saying you're going to leave O2: do you really think the other operators are going to offer anything different? They're probably all breathing a sigh of relief that O2 have done this.
Well giffgaff are certainly still offering unlimited data, and for considerably less than O2 as well. Their £10, £15 and £35 goodybags (monthly PAYG bundles) all include unlimited UK handset data (as well as unlimited texts and 100, 300 and unlimited UK x-net minutes respectively). Well worth a look if you are disappointed with O2 (and others) - and they run on O2 too so don't even need to worry about unlocking an O2 iPhone. Over time it will generally end up as cheap or cheaper than an O2 contract iPhone, even factoring in the higher PAYG iPhone price.

If giffgaff run on o2 though, they'll have to make some sort of change surely?
