I repair iPhones daily and by the look of that display it is a cheap aftermarket. Look at the prox sensor.

This is why I think someone connected a new logic board to a mismatched display....trying to get it up and running.

The fact that the phone is requesting connection via iTunes for activation means that the phone is running on ios4, since ios5 doesn't even require you to own a computer. Odd no?

iOS 5 requires you to plug into iTunes to restore if the OS gets corrupted, just like all previous versions of iOS. Also, note that it doesn't have the battery status in the upper right. That indicates it is in recovery mode, not activation mode. In other words, iOS may not even be loaded on this iPhone.

Apple gives out modified iPhone 4's with A5 processors for development purposes. Four months later, one of these developers takes it apart and posts pictures on the internet, and suddenly it's the upcoming iPhone?

You just got trolled.

That chinese site is also a bit odd, translating the Chinese:

Gevey Dongle可帮助您完成iPhone 5解锁

Gevey Dongle已经发布,可以升级Gevey (Updatable)可升级版Gevey,在5代发布后可以在网站下载5代解锁程序即可完成5代有锁机解锁。

into Engrish:

Gevey Dongle can help you unlock iPhone 5

Gevey Dongle has been released, you can upgrade Gevey (Updatable) can upgrade Gevey, in five generations after the release of five generations in the download process to complete the fifth generation to unlock a locked machine unlocked.

And a Gevey Dongle is apparently a sim-unlock simcard/chip. It also looks a bit like the sim card in the picture has a chip next to it. Could these photos just be a 'proof' that the Gevey Dongle is able to sim-unlock an iPhone 5 by showing a running iPhone 5 logic board?

It's weird that it is showing an AT&T simcard though. One would expect an iPhone 5 to work with an AT&T simcard?

(Also, 9to5mac says this logic board is not Apple produced).

I would of thought with iOS5, apple would also let users do a recover restore wireless?
They have made a big deal out of cutting the cord and OTA updates.
That recovery would also work the same?
Like with Mac OSX?

Nope. I'm guessing that if the OS does get corrupted, then they expect you to got to the nearest apple store and the geniuses will restore it then you restore all your stuff from an iCloud backup.

Well that's just stupid!
:-(

Was apple not testing "iPhone5" specs but using a iPhone4 casing?
This could of been one of the test units?

I'm not wanting to accept the fact that this is the new phone.

I agree with those who think this could be a mule case with a mule screen or a prototype of an iPhone V that did not make the final cut. Apple designs several iPhones per generation. They only select one.

They could just be using an iPhone 4 case and display with an iPhone 4s/5 logicboard.

Jeebus, I could take a picture of my own iPhone torn apart and the interweb would go nuts about the "iPhone 4s"...

cripes.

I would be surprised if an old iPhone 4 Digitizer and LCD would work on a iPhone 5 logic board. Who really know. Hate all these rumors and mocked up pictures. Also if the iPhone had iOS5 on it I don't see why it would need to be plugged into iTunes. Unless it is in recovery mode.

(Also, 9to5mac says this logic board is not Apple produced).

No, that's not what they are saying. They are just saying the front plate uses the old style proximity detector, so is not a current Apple part -- which has been mentioned before.

Look at the photo closely. No clock at the top. No battery at the top right. Therefore, it is in recovery mode.

NOT THE iPHONE 5

iOS5 runs with wirelessly, this is just another RUMOR. Apple wouldn't put out a 4S edition without supplying the iPhone 5 with it; especially when they offering it to Sprint now. Sprint would be mistaken if they think they'll compete with AT&T and Verizon with an outdated phone.

It is in recovery mode... unless it can download the whole firmware and install it without computer interaction, from scratch?

They will release 2 iPhones

I totally agree with the WSJ and all the other places that have claimed that Apple will release two iPhones, a 4S and a 5 but will have a slight delay.

The 4S will be released in October and the 5 will be released later....

.... around June 2012.

*blank*

the authenticity of this picture can be questioned the battery capacity and the a5 *could* easily have been shopped furthermore the "connect to itunes" should not be there, provided that it is a next generation iphone, it should have ios 5 or a beta version installed which means it *should* be a pc free setup and lastly it looks like the connect to itunes picture was just photo-shopped on, it doesnt even look like the device is turned on

it should be noted that there is evidence to support the authenticity too.
i dont actually think that i is fake but i do believe that the connect to itunes screen is fake

These images to me prove nothing. The ambient light sensor is the grill version which was scrapped by Apple due to poor function. My gut says this is someone with some spare parts and too much time on their hands.
