LOL, poor Samsung, makes a blatant copy of the iPhone and there phone don't sell as well. Then they copy Apple's advertising and still it doesn't sell as well. Then they make a phone that, lets be honest, looks and has better tech in it then the iPhone, but it still doesn't sell as well.

What has always been their fall back option? Bashing apple, and even that doesn't work lol.

Poor desperate Samsung. You would think after 10 years of competing they would finally get it, but nope, still completely clueless as usual.

I, for one, would love to use my Apple Pencil on iPhones and Mac trackpads.
People who complain they don’t want/need a stylus clearly are not in the work flows and probably haven’t tried it out or get what it‘s used for. Its use case is not basic day-to-day UI interaction but rather anything creative, planning, drawing, annotation.

A big clumsy finger is in front of your display and has a too large tip in order to make precise and effective inputs. Editing photos and making sketches on the iPad is ultra-convenient and I would like to make individual signatures or annotations on Macs and iPhones, too.

I’ve spoken to some colleagues who say if they hadn’t invested so much in iOS apps, they would defo consider switching. Can’t say for sure it’d be to the Note 8 but would consider switching for exactly the reasons in this ad.

Me personally, I’ve never been affected by any of the issues in the ad. Yes, I’d like to plug in an SD card with movies just for the flexibility with SD cards, and yes I’d prefer the new X had been designed without that notch at the top of the screen But I think at times we can sometimes be dragged into a debate regarding the negatives than the positives of whatever devices we have and I don’t see why that would be different the other way round. Appreciate what you have, not what you haven’t.

Although it is still a good ad IMO.

MR, please continue posting stories like these. It gets the Apple fanboys sooooooo riled up it's funny !!

Cluestick: This ad isn't targeting die-hard Apple fanboys. You will never, ever, ever change. It's targeting the average person, to which a phone is just a phone. It's not a life choice.

No problem. Some things that I have liked over the years are the A-series chip/performance improvements, touch ID/Face ID, dual camera/camera improvements, 3D touch, larger screens, OLED, X design, and software improvements. iOS is the main reason I stick with Apple for the reasons I mentioned (performance, security, privacy, ecosystem, and support). Hardware improvements aren't a huge factor for me although I have loved the move to the X from the Plus.

Edit: Oh yea, and the removal of the home button and addition of a gesture based UI has been a huge improvement in my eyes. Biggest change for me since 2007 actually. I love the new gestures and it has made my overall experience of using the phone better.
Most of what you described are merely the same things just improved upon as the technology improves. The overall experience of using the phone hasn't really changed. Yes the phone are more capable than before. And early improvements, such as speed increases and camera quality, were definite reasons to move to a new phone. But the benefit from those kinds of improvements has dwindled to, IMO, they're no longer compelling. This is not to say they're unwelcome. I just don't see them as great selling points.

I think TouchID was a nice addition. I'll have to defer judgement on FaceID until I've had a chance to use it. At this time I'm not convinced FaceID is a big win (it was easy to see TouchID as a win). Ironically these two features improved on something which, until the introduction of Apple Pay, most people didn't care much about.

Thanks for the feedback.

Great ad. But sticking with the Apple ecosystem, at least for now. One thing that has changed for me is the cost vs benefit equation. Our 6S and SE are perfect, for us. Seriously considering buying one more of each just to have them as backups in case the in use iPhone's die. Way cheaper than buying a new iPhone that doesn't have anything more we need/want than the current batch of iPhone's.

Yea, I see your point, but it's just one of those things I don't really worry about. My preference of the iOS platform isn't really tied to a specific feature or hardware advancement. Sticking with the platform has always provided me with a great overall experience while giving me the best performance, security, privacy, ecosystem, and support. As technology progresses, I see the benefit. Face ID has been great for me so far, hasn't failed yet and has become something I don't even think about. Definitely a huge step forward.

Pretty grand statement from someone who also doesn’t know anything about the S-Pen. As someone who’s owned nothing but iPhones until the Note 8, once you actually see all of the things it can do (rather than just assuming it’s a stylus) then there’s tons of things that everyone can find very useful.

I’m not sure why so many people are debating the S-Pen. Even Apple has admitted it’s a good idea as they have the Apple Pencil. Heck, you can’t even do as many things with the Apple Pencil as you can the S-pen.
Know nothing about the S-Pen? What an ignorant thing to say. As someone who as also used it (and owned the phone, although not the 8), I can tell you that it is not for the average consumer. I never said anything about my opinion there. Just as I would say most people probably don’t take advantage of 3D Touch a lot of the time, it’s a feature I love but that doesn’t mean the average consumer will use it.
They have not admitted the S-pen is a good idea through releasing the Apple Pencil. They are different things. Most importantly, ot is not for a phone.

Notch haircut was funny, but the rest of ad the falsely assumes that hardware is the most important factor in decision for purchase, when in fact it's the phone software. And that after all these years Samsung has yet to understand that and really put more focus on it in their own products.

If history is any predictor, Samsung S9 will probably have FaceID like system on the back of the phone.

I completely understand how you like what Apple is offering. I've been an Apple user for decades. I've bounced between iPhone and Android over the years. Currently I'm on Android but Apple has finally added some features I wanted (water / dust resistance being a big one and a primary reason I replaced my GS 6 Edge with the GS 7 Edge) and now I can consider the iPhone again.

The problem is replacing my GS 7 Edge with something new won't result in any change it what I do with my phone. I'll still use it the same way I do today. It's why I continue to use my GS 7 Edge instead of a GS 8. Bezel-less screens look cool but then so does my Edge phone. Unfortunately the edge causes some usability inconvenience. Nothing serious but I was disappointed to see Samsung move to an all edge product lineup for their Galaxy devices.

If I end up buying an iPhone X, which I have seriously considering, it won't because it will allow me to do something I can't already do. It'll be for other reasons.

Google makes their money, as you point out , in advertising; a thing that's never going to go away ever. Apple make the majority of their money on a product that can be usurped or fall out of fashion or be superseded by something better. Can't you see that Google's position is more secure in the grand scheme of things?

Bull. Something as simple as a new type of ad blocker could wipe Google out overnight.

Every year there’s another so-called iPhone killer, yet none of them ever come close to knocking Apple off their #1 position.

But don't forget Samsung has 2 launch quarters (s and note series) in a year. No matter what the number of s and note sold is not "a fraction" what Apple sold. This fact is difficult for some apple fans to take ....please no wrist cutting he he :)

The Note series barely even sells. We learned this from the disaster last year called the Note 7. Samsung was forced to reveal sales figures because of the recall and they were pathetic. It can hardly be called a launch quarter. Unless you think bottle rockets are considered launch vehicles.

can someone explain how writing down a contact is much better than typing it in?

- you need two hands
- you need a stylus
- looks wildly uncomfortable to write without some palm rest
- unless there's some "google magic" going on, you can't search for that contact (EDIT: yes i know OCR exist, but you need to take extra steps to file it as a contact instead of saving as a note)
- looks unorganized
- much slower to write vs typing

I think this a proof of concept. You can show data entry in a moment here versus something like a classroom setting taking notes would take more time to convey in a commercial. When you’re commercial cost is by the millisecond (idk exactly how they’re billed but I know the longer the commercial the more expensive), that makes a lot of sense.

I've seen it. And what can it do? Is it faster than fingerprint scanners that even £300 Android phones have now? Is it more convenient? I haven't tried it but I saw the reviews who said it has about the same miss rate as TouchID, so it is not an improvement.
Touch ID has gotten very good. The improvement lies in the fact that we have reduced the size of the phone by removing the home button. So the improvements don’t come in authentication so much as in moving the authentication so that we get improvements elsewhere.

Apple decided not to place the Touch is on the back. I personally would’ve been happy with it there.

As I write this It did occur to me that Touch ID isn’t great with wet/moist fingers (working out or getting out of the pool), not on worn or old fingertips (my mom did manual labor all her life and simply cannot use it). I’m wondering if therefore faceid is a more accurate authentication technique overall.

I do like that I can tap the screen anywhere to wake it; this is not something that necessarily had to happen with the X, I don’t see why other phones don’t do that. But it’s anither example of what can be done with the touch screen hardware.

Say what you want, but that was an awesome commercial. Tastefully done. I considered buying a Note 8 this year, matter of fact.

The rice thing was so relatable.

edit -- Absolutely no reason to try and defend Apple or Samsung here, fellas. Let's just appreciate tech (and good marketing). :)

Agreed. Great commercial. Seems like everybody has forgotten the I’m a mac I’m a pc ads Apple put out. Same jabs. Don’t take it personal fellow phone users.

Oh Samsung...can you ever just do you?

Great ad for Apple. Makes Samsung look petty.

And living in the past won't help you. If you wanted to sell differentiation like wireless charging and water resistance, you should have done so when the iPhone didn't have those features....because they do now.

This ad just shows Samsung still doesn't understand why people choose Apple over specs.

Wipe out Google overnight? That's laughable and quite sad if you truly believe that. Maybe taking a step back, and using an Educated point of view on both Operating systems will open your eyes up. Plenty of people in this thread will admit to being die hard Apple fanboys, and finally switched over to Android. They have been happier than ever. While this may not be the same for everyone, its still better to be Non-Biased and see what competitors are doing, than solely relying on Apple to finally add old features to their lineup.
Cool story bro. As king of Spain, I say this commercial is hilarious.
You have won the internet with your profile picture! I have been laughing non stop this morning!
