Most of what you described are merely the same things just improved upon as the technology improves. The overall experience of using the phone hasn't really changed. Yes the phone are more capable than before. And early improvements, such as speed increases and camera quality, were definite reasons to move to a new phone. But the benefit from those kinds of improvements has dwindled to, IMO, they're no longer compelling. This is not to say they're unwelcome. I just don't see them as great selling points. No problem. Some things that I have liked over the years are the A-series chip/performance improvements, touch ID/Face ID, dual camera/camera improvements, 3D touch, larger screens, OLED, X design, and software improvements. iOS is the main reason I stick with Apple for the reasons I mentioned (performance, security, privacy, ecosystem, and support). Hardware improvements aren't a huge factor for me although I have loved the move to the X from the Plus.
Edit: Oh yea, and the removal of the home button and addition of a gesture based UI has been a huge improvement in my eyes. Biggest change for me since 2007 actually. I love the new gestures and it has made my overall experience of using the phone better.

I think TouchID was a nice addition. I'll have to defer judgement on FaceID until I've had a chance to use it. At this time I'm not convinced FaceID is a big win (it was easy to see TouchID as a win). Ironically these two features improved on something which, until the introduction of Apple Pay, most people didn't care much about.
Thanks for the feedback.
Know nothing about the S-Pen? What an ignorant thing to say. As someone who as also used it (and owned the phone, although not the 8), I can tell you that it is not for the average consumer. I never said anything about my opinion there. Just as I would say most people probably don’t take advantage of 3D Touch a lot of the time, it’s a feature I love but that doesn’t mean the average consumer will use it.Pretty grand statement from someone who also doesn’t know anything about the S-Pen. As someone who’s owned nothing but iPhones until the Note 8, once you actually see all of the things it can do (rather than just assuming it’s a stylus) then there’s tons of things that everyone can find very useful.
I’m not sure why so many people are debating the S-Pen. Even Apple has admitted it’s a good idea as they have the Apple Pencil. Heck, you can’t even do as many things with the Apple Pencil as you can the S-pen.
Now that you've noticed, every time you look at your IPhone X, you will see this guy staring back at you. It's gonna be a nightmare.OMG - missed that first time . And dman it, I thought the bloke looked really silly, I look at my X ..... arrrgghhh
I completely understand how you like what Apple is offering. I've been an Apple user for decades. I've bounced between iPhone and Android over the years. Currently I'm on Android but Apple has finally added some features I wanted (water / dust resistance being a big one and a primary reason I replaced my GS 6 Edge with the GS 7 Edge) and now I can consider the iPhone again.Yea, I see your point, but it's just one of those things I don't really worry about. My preference of the iOS platform isn't really tied to a specific feature or hardware advancement. Sticking with the platform has always provided me with a great overall experience while giving me the best performance, security, privacy, ecosystem, and support. As technology progresses, I see the benefit. Face ID has been great for me so far, hasn't failed yet and has become something I don't even think about. Definitely a huge step forward.
Google makes their money, as you point out , in advertising; a thing that's never going to go away ever. Apple make the majority of their money on a product that can be usurped or fall out of fashion or be superseded by something better. Can't you see that Google's position is more secure in the grand scheme of things?
As an commercial director this is an utter failure of an advert...
I thought Samsung was past this kind of advertising I guess not
But don't forget Samsung has 2 launch quarters (s and note series) in a year. No matter what the number of s and note sold is not "a fraction" what Apple sold. This fact is difficult for some apple fans to take ....please no wrist cutting he he![]()
I think this a proof of concept. You can show data entry in a moment here versus something like a classroom setting taking notes would take more time to convey in a commercial. When you’re commercial cost is by the millisecond (idk exactly how they’re billed but I know the longer the commercial the more expensive), that makes a lot of sense.can someone explain how writing down a contact is much better than typing it in?
- you need two hands
- you need a stylus
- looks wildly uncomfortable to write without some palm rest
- unless there's some "google magic" going on, you can't search for that contact (EDIT: yes i know OCR exist, but you need to take extra steps to file it as a contact instead of saving as a note)
- looks unorganized
- much slower to write vs typing

Touch ID has gotten very good. The improvement lies in the fact that we have reduced the size of the phone by removing the home button. So the improvements don’t come in authentication so much as in moving the authentication so that we get improvements elsewhere.I've seen it. And what can it do? Is it faster than fingerprint scanners that even £300 Android phones have now? Is it more convenient? I haven't tried it but I saw the reviews who said it has about the same miss rate as TouchID, so it is not an improvement.
Say what you want, but that was an awesome commercial. Tastefully done. I considered buying a Note 8 this year, matter of fact.
The rice thing was so relatable.
edit -- Absolutely no reason to try and defend Apple or Samsung here, fellas. Let's just appreciate tech (and good marketing).![]()
Wipe out Google overnight? That's laughable and quite sad if you truly believe that. Maybe taking a step back, and using an Educated point of view on both Operating systems will open your eyes up. Plenty of people in this thread will admit to being die hard Apple fanboys, and finally switched over to Android. They have been happier than ever. While this may not be the same for everyone, its still better to be Non-Biased and see what competitors are doing, than solely relying on Apple to finally add old features to their lineup.Bull. Something as simple as a new type of ad blocker could wipe Google out overnight.
Every year there’s another so-called iPhone killer, yet none of them ever come close to knocking Apple off their #1 position.
You have won the internet with your profile picture! I have been laughing non stop this morning!Cool story bro. As king of Spain, I say this commercial is hilarious.
That's history as antenna gate is.Getting excited for Apple to respond with an ad showing a Note 7 exploding...
