Truth is Samsung s8 (haven't try note 8) is a better value phone, with less compromises than iPhone (a true all Screen device and headphone jack), is also older than iPhone and still looks better, and so far Android N is much faster than IOS, and with the next version Android O it is suppose to be faster, even if it keeps the same performance will be good - and that is something Apple cannot do. Apple releases tech years after others, which means they can use more mature hardware, is not that they do "things right", they do things years after the others, of course there must be a evolution. As long as they sell well, Apple has no reason the change the way they are, for me... I won't buy anymore something from a company that intentionally make devices that last only a year.
True all screen? It’s has a bezel on top and bottom.

Samsung claims the only reason for iPhone's success is marketing (after all, it's hard to accept that you are behind in software, hardware, design skills AND marketing) ... so of course, the ad agency goes along - teling samsung if you only spend another billion on ads, that will seal the deal - nevermind that no one wants a stylus unless you're an artist and who's going to draw on anything smaller than a tablet but of course, samsung's technology is limited to creating a stylus ... advanced technology like their TouchID is wonky - nevermind serious new technology like FaceID that thers can be fooled by a photograph.

I think Samsung should be supporting iPhone X to succeed. It's partially Samsung's baby too and why Apple priced it so high. Samsung is like a minor shareholder for it.

Too bad MR users fall for this. Imagine if MR posted this and there was NO posts. Then the joke would be on Galaxy.
But we all fall for it like the commercial that says "you can't say cheese without smiling." And everyone in the room says "cheese" :p

I know some people do care, but I do not care to have to have a stylus or to have to deal with mediocre software attempts at handwriting recognition. Nice placement of the fingerprint sensor, Samsung, I always wanted to have to remember to wipe my fingerprint off of the camera... I don’t want your curved screen, or the large bezel at the bottom or top, or your cheesy apps that duplicate google’s apps, or the carrier bloatware, so iPhone X for me.

If that's true that Sammy said that, I would agree. I've always said that. Apple is great at marketing. Google? No. HTC? Terrible. Motorola? Mediocre. Samsung realized it and started marketing like mad, and look where they are now. I'm not insulting Apple here. They make great commercials. To this day people still quote a now famous line from Apple ads: there's an app for that.
Apple is King in Marketing. No honest Android fan can deny it.

This ad showcased the iPhone more than anything, made me feel a little nostalgic about my old iPhones... don’t think that’s what they were going for

You are a loyal iPhone buyer. They’re not concerned about you

A stylus would be amazing on iOS for selecting text on an iPhone - especially in things like notes and Pages, in a PDF, or even just selecting text in safari.

The text selection in iOS hasn't changed or improved since 2008. It is wildly inaccurate and if you try to select more than one word it converts to selecting a paragraph, and then will jump up and down the entire page trying to select the entire document when all you wanted was one sentence.

A stylus would solve that very annoying problem - even if it were sold as an optional extra.
Text selection drastically improved with the 3D Touch trackpad. Yes, it requires the keyboard to be up but I think it is as good as or better than a stylus at text selection.

Bet Samsung will have the 'notch' on their next flagship.

Is it only samsung users that need to justify their device every year? I don't hear this much from other Android devices and their users...

I support the phones in my office. Have for 10 years. Most of these people don't even use iTunes. When they come to me and tell me they can't do xx because iCloud is full I straight on tell them "well they dropped the price a few years ago and it's only 99 cents a month for a ton of space". Yea, they pretty much all have that 99 cents plan now. It's a lot easier to do that for Joe Average then screw around with iTunes.
/Edit/ oh, and my media library is a bit more then "modest". I get by just fine.

So on one hand you’re saying that being cornered into cloud storage is a “ripoff” and on the other you’re saying how cheap it is for a ton of space.

Also, syncing to iTunes isn’t “screwing around,” unless plug-click is screwy. Besides, the only way to backup secure data like my dozen or so stored WiFi passwords is by encrypted backup via iTunes sync. It’s just a better way, and all of those people would suddenly find liberated space on their iCloud drives when they turn off cloud syncing, which, if they’re anything like my wife, they probably didn’t even realize they’d enabled.

Well they have a point I guess, although the majority of users probably couldn’t care less about a stylus.

This is probably because those users don’t understand that the S-Pen is NOT a simple stylus, and has significantly more practical uses compared to features such as Animoji’s.

The reason why I like Apple Ads are because they do not focus or bash the completion. They focus on what they do well. They never compare to others. Branding is everything and at its best.

Apple focuses on their brand only. If you were running a car ad campaign, you wouldn’t want to focus on what that brand is doing. You’d focus on your product and that’s it. There will be worst products out there and there will be better products too. The key is to not focus on what your competitors are doing. Especially in a television spot where millions are watching.

This goes too you to Microsoft.
so you didn't like the Mac vs PC ads by Apple back then? I thought they were funny.

There are times Samsung’s ad is not good, that you don’t even want to use Samsung at all. But this is really good and nailed it the proper balance, emphasizing what iPhones is lacking and not directly shaming the users.

Let's see..

I have an Apple laptop.

I have a Samsung TV. Even if you want to hate Samsung products, you have Samsung components inside your favorite gadgets.

I have a Sony Blu-ray player, PS4 slim, and PS Vita slim.

I have three LG phones, an Apple, an HTC, a Xiaomi, and a Motorola..

I go to work wearing a gray Google cap. Even if you don't have a single Android in your home, billions are very dependent on Google services.

Most of this is an overlap of brands.

If iPhone dies, Apple dies. If Galaxy S/Note die, Samsung is still fine. They aren't solely dependent on one market with a single product line with 70% of their revenue like iPhone is to Apple.

Most of this stuff is just watching triggered fanatics having a pie throwing contest.

This is probably because those users don’t understand that the S-Pen is NOT a simple stylus, and has significantly more practical uses compared to features such as Animoji’s.
And the point is that the average consumer doesn’t care about that added functionality and will barely use the pen, even if Apple were to implement it.

I did not say cloud storage is a rip off. You're thinking of someone else.
And yea I do stick to that about iTunes. You...can't remember your wifi passwords? Come on now. It's not that big a deal. Now that Apple has perfected migration through iCloud I recommend it all the time. Never fails when someone at work gets a new iPhone. Old days, I would connect phone to PC and every time (because they aren't regular iTunes users) "iTunes needs to update". Sigh. There's 30 minutes at least. Now? Check backup date on old iPhone. Initiate new if it's old. Login to iCloud on new phone. Hand user back phone. That's it. It's awesome.

So is this ad trying to get switchers or is it just trolling for the benefit of people who read The Verge? If it’s the latter I’m not sure how that’s a good sales strategy. In my opinion the fact that Samsung acknowledges Apple has a new phone on the market is just a win for Apple. Why give your competition free advertising?

Samsung pulled this with “bendgate” too. Unfortunately, when a company defines itself by its competition, it validates the quality of the competition. Apple doesn’t zero in on Samsung phones in its ads. Why? Because its brand is “we set the bar for ourselves.” Samsung appears obsessed with comparing the iPhone to its products. They confirm that its Apple’s universe and they just live in it. Samsung, you have some screens to build for the X. Get back to work!

Apple and Samsung both know that the real threat is coming from Chinese companies like Huawei, and that they need to keep public awareness away from them.
Huawei a threat? Not really, at least not in Europe and especially the US. All this Huawei buzz was generated a year or two ago when they took over mainland China (leveraging cash from their networking infrastructure business, which is still where they make most of their money). Their growth has slowed and their profitability has dropped (Apple has 91% of phone sales profits). The Mate 10 (anyone know that’s what their new phone is called?) launched a month ago (anyone remember? anyone know?) with silly tidbits like gigabit cellular even though there’s no current network that can deliver it, an “AI” chip (do consumers care?) and facial recognition stuff which is already behind iPhone X’s state of the art. And at the end of the day it’s yet another Android phone in the mix, and an expensive one at that. If you’re Xiaomi, I’d worry (even though Huawei has obviously bailed on the lower end market). If you’re Apple, I’d sleep well. Justin Long has even used up his cute. (And even if he hasn’t, I still think of Apple no matter what logo he’s standing next to.)

But nice analogy with Coke vs. Pepsi.
