I've noticed that over the past 12 months or so, a majority of the Samsung smartphone ads I see are directly attacking Apple. I have also noticed that over the past year, Samsung's high end smartphone sales have actually decreased while Apple's sales are still skyrocketing. I'd be willing to bet those two facts aren't just coincidental.

I thought about getting a Note for a long time. Samsung's ads used to make their products seem really cool. I mean back in 2012 the Note II really was innovative in my opinion, and they spent most of their advertisements showing it's features. But now most of their ads just attack Apple. It doesn't make me want to buy a Samsung phone instead...

Honestly if I ran a smartphone company I would never waste so many hundreds of millions of advertising dollars just attacking my competitors. I would spend it making my products look as cool and desirable as I possibly could.

Over that time period Apple has seen record phone sales and profits and Samsung has been free-falling. I am not sure it is working the way Samsung intended.

Note to Samsung... A larger screen is not an innovation. It's just a bit bigger, so no need for anyone to thank you.

Samsung is worried (and for good reason) because they know they have a lot of customers who bought their phones did so because they thought bigger was better.

The people that I know who bought a Samsung bought it for 1 of 2 reasons.

1) They were practically giving them away at Costco
2) They thought bigger was better

Most, but not all, are already planning their switch to the iPhone.

I've always wanted Apple to make a phone between 4.5 and 5 inches, but I wasn't willing to move to Android to get it. It was never a killer feature for me.

I prefer iOS. I prefer Apple's approach of steadily refining rather than throwing a ton of half-baked crap in to see what sticks. Apple won't do something unless it makes sense. They didn't bother with NFC before, not because they couldn't but because their vision of how to implement Apple Pay wasn't yet ready.

If I was planning to move to an Android, it definitely wouldn't be a Samsung. My nephews Nexux is pretty nice.

If samsung want to make an ad bashing the iphone, then they really should show people doing something awesome and useful with their own, not trivial gimmicky things that nobody cares about.

If all apple did was jump to the same size, that is no justification to extrapolate to claiming to be a leader in other things. How many things did samsung copy of apple? lol.

Lol man the reaction of the samsung fans in this thread is hilarious. I'm amused. You can see the insecurity shining through. Samsung is a crap company and their sales and profit will continue to decline.
They are just future iPhone 6+ users they will cave in

The same Google Wallet that maybe a handful of people use at the few retailers that offer it?

I had a friend going on and on about how his 3 year old phone has NFC and Google wallet and he uses it all the time. He could not name the last place he used it or even tell me where we could go see it used. Having a feature and having a useful feature are not the same thing.

How do you know its not the best when it hasn't even been released yet? Best is subjective but you've never even seen in one person so how do you make that conclusion?

There are plenty of stats that are already known so you can compare these stats with other phones.

"A really good phablet - nowhere near as well-specified as the Note range - but still a very good competitor."

(…) I'm not saying I'm not happy that Apple finally has a huge phone, but it's funny that now everyone that used to hate phablets will now soon own one.

yes and no. bigger screens does not automatically mean "phablets" : )
- I hope 4.7 is good for me
- 5.5 for samsung switchers (just fun : )

After having a galaxy for the past 4 months, I can't take these commercials seriously. Samsungs feel like a cheap knockoff of the iPhone. It isn't the next big thing. It's second rate junk. And if you're having to resort to attacking your competitors, it becomes extremely clear who is in the lead.

If Samsung's only defense against Apple is that it had bigger screens first, it's probably got an inferior product. Just because you did something first doesn't mean you did it right.

Samsung opened up the Phablet market they then should have poured all their effort into an amazing looking phone that feels amazing in your hand. I picked up a Galaxy (because I wanted a bigger screen) and I was like, 'UGH!' the phone felt so cheap and plastic in my hand. Fisher Price toy phone quality. Concentrate on improving that, Samsung, rather than spending fortunes on tactless adverts.

They should hire a 'futurist' like Sid Mead (Google him) to come up with innovative concept drawings for sleek phones.

If my competitor just "pre-sold" 4 million devices in one day I would be making cringe-worthy, desperate ads attacking them too.

The ad is spot on. And yes the iPhone 6+ does look the Galaxy Note 2 from 2012 minus the stylus. I ordered iPhone 6+ because it reminded me so much of the Galaxy Note.:p

Why would that be a positive? I ****ing hate the galaxy note2.

I am not sure I can go on. Perhaps we can start a support group.

lol

Indeed ^^

It's just an add for .... sake... I remember Apple making fun of Windows with the "funny" PC guy versus the "cool looking" younger guy...

And let's face it, for some time a bigger screen wasn't something Apple wanted to make, steve himself called the old size the best size for a phone. I don't mind Apple is following now with bigger phones as well by popular demand by the way.

I'm thinking of waiting one year and then going for a new 2 years contract when the iPhone 7 might come out. The point is, my current iPhone 5 still works great and just had a whole new battery installed, including that one of my girlfriend/ The battery was performing extremely bad due a production error Apple made at the time. Our serial number showed that our phones where in the list of phones Apple would fix for free. So we did.

:apple:

say what you feel you need to say, but try using a Note 3 for a while and you will wonder "should I get the 6 plus? I'll miss some of these things".

Android isn't bad. The note isn't either. It is an amazing product.

That said, I ordered a 6 plus because my family uses Apple TVs and iPads and I like to be in the same ecosystem when i travel.

If it were not for that, I'd be on the Note 3 - it is the best phablet on the market that you can buy today... and the 6 plus may or may not be better... and the note 4 may be better than that.

Two sites very much focusing solely on specs... Who cares? Seriously. Spec sheets are meaningless for mobile phone. Some quotes from the techradar story:

it doesn't have the same octa-core power Samsung
Who cares? Why does it matter?
it's not going to be in the octa-core band and the RAM is unlikely to be anything over 2GB
Who cares? Why does it matter?
'm going to need to give the iPhone 6 Plus a good and thorough testing in real life, to see if it performs well through all app
Reviewer has not tried the device, the review is based solely off the spec sheet.

Admittedly I thought that a 5.5" screen was just way too big back when the Note came out. At the time I had my iPad and my iPhone so I thought I was golden. Then I started getting newer iPhones and never upgraded my iPad and needed to bring my laptop around for movie watching on planes, in hotels, etc. I think now I'll have a good blend of both worlds having a screen that size and it being a phone. What also "sold" me was the possibility of having the :apple:Watch couple with it next year. As other may have pointed out, Apple sometimes does not come up with an idea (sometimes they do however!) but if they don't, they take something existing and just make it better.

I've used a Galaxy S4 for work previously and I pretty much hated it. Let alone having to use a stylus (which I'd most certainly lose) to use a Galaxy Notes? Sorry Samsung, Apple still winning here in my opinion.

So unprofessional, so desperate, and I love how Apple just doesn't care and yet they're still #1

You guys should read all the comments on YouTube, my god the amount of android haters on there is ridiculous, bashing the iPhone 6 and thumbing down every video lmaoo so sad.

'THE' only reason I am going to purchase the 6+ is the bigger screen. I could care less about all the other features. I was actually going to get a Galaxy before they announced the bigger size so Apple timed their bigger screen release right. I think market research told Apple to make bigger screens before it's too late.

Pretty much. I don't think a lot of Android fanboys realize that the *ONLY* reason many people bought an Android is because Apple did NOT have one. That's not an Apple fanboy talking - it's just a fact. I know about 7 different people who are almost orgasmic with happiness that they can *finally* own an iPhone and a large screen device - and have them be in the same device. LOL

Thanks. If "best"is based solely on specs then apple is not the best. But again, best is subjective and goes far beyond just specs.

Give credit where credit is due. Apple THEMSELVES pretty much said big phones are stupid. Samsung opened up a market that Apple are now going to exploit.

oh please - Apple lies all the time. In fact, every time someone in that company says they aren't going to do something you can pretty much guarantee that they will. we'll never sell music - we'll never make a phone ... in some cases it's lip service to throw off the competition.

Samsung didn't open up a market for large screen phones. Smart phone screen sizes have increased almost yearly. Apple had the largest screen on the market when it first introduced the iphone back in 2007. Before that, Microsoft had the largest screen size.

That said, I ordered a 6 plus because my family uses Apple TVs and iPads and I like to be in the same ecosystem when i travel.

This. While an ecosystem alone isn't enough to make me stay, it's a decent consideration. I spend my days getting computers/networks/servers working together nicely, so I can make any device (within reason LOL) work with other devices. But it's nice when it works with the other devices out of the box.

It is ironic Samsung is making fun of Apple for "imitating" their phones... how quickly they forget...

So who is copying who? So quickly Sammy forgets.

I guess imitation is the greatest form of flatery one company can give to another. Lets see what what next years SGS6 and SGN5 look like. I call rounded edges (granted the Note Edge already has half of that going for it already).
